Hello all, sorry I haven't been on. A stressful week.

Knees still iffy, going to have a gait analysis done tomorrow and get some decent trainers.

Dsis has been diagnosed with bowel cancer, luckily its contained, she is being operated on next week and then 9 months of chemo, other DSis who is a radiographer is demanding that all siblings (7 of us) get colonoscopy done.

DD finally diagnosed with autism this morning, mild but she has it.

And they have shifted my work again so I now cover three teams and I am losing the plot slightly.

I am missing running

CruCru · 19/09/2014 21:57

Fuck Five, that sounds awful. It sounds like you could use some looking after.

DaftMaul · 19/09/2014 22:22

Bloody hell Five. What a week! Glad you are getting a gait analysis. Where are you doing it?

I should have run today but had to do dd's second hand uniform sale - only do it for front row seats at the end of term shows!

ChameleonCircuit · 19/09/2014 22:23

Kia I wish I only had 1.5 stone to lose Grin Maybe I should be grateful my knees aren't quite as bad.

ChameleonCircuit · 19/09/2014 22:24

Oh, forgot to say - my Garmin watch arrived today !!! Grin

CruCru · 20/09/2014 10:07

Woohoo! Parkrun done and I wasn't the last to finish. I know that's not the point but I'm still a bit relieved.

OP posts:
ScienceRocks · 20/09/2014 10:08

Well done cru! Grin

Five, sorry you have so much to deal with at the momentSad

ChameleonCircuit · 20/09/2014 10:16

Oh, brilliant, CruCru! Was it fun? Tell all.....

CruCru · 20/09/2014 10:59

It was nice. They have marshals throughout who say Well done! to all the runners and even some of the runners say it (particularly older ones who are wearing their 50 / 100 running tops).

DH and the kids watched me and unfortunately DS had an almightly tantrum (he is three) because he wanted to run and wear a special T Shirt (some of the marshals are kids). However, that was clearly not the fault of Parkrun.

I think MapMyRun is a bit too generous, it did feel longer than I usually run (I am not sure but I think I ran 5km). I stopped and walked for a minute a couple of times but I wasn't the only one.

Results won't be out for a couple of days but I think I did it in 40/45 minutes.

CruCru · 20/09/2014 10:59

How is your Garmin watch Chameleon? What colour is it?

DottyDot · 20/09/2014 11:01

Sorry Five that life is so crap at the moment - hope you've got good support around you?

I did my first parkrun too! Have to say I found it really, really hard going. I cried twice Blush. Finished it but in 45 minutes and had to walk bits - there were a couple of uphill bits I just couldn't cope with. So, I did it but not sure I'll ever do one again...! Feeling relieved it's over but a bit sad I'm so crap... Although I too wasn't last I know that's not supposed to matter Grin

ScienceRocks · 20/09/2014 11:38

Oh dotty, sorry it was so hard Sad

Cru, I thought you get your time immediately? That's what happens round here, anyway.

Just done week 3 run 3. Note to self: runaway by bruno mars is too fast for me to try and run in time to. However, I did it on the treadmill and didn't put the incline to 1% as I've read you should do to better recreate outdoor conditions.

DH is doing the same run as me but outside with the dog. For today, and today only, we are vaguely running buddies!

enormouse · 20/09/2014 14:14

five Thanks. Sending love and thoughts to you.

cru I really want to do parkrun. My local one is beautiful, antrim coast and a forest park. Your positive experience is spurring me on to do it. Were there a lot of people? Was there a good atmosphere?

I just did W7R1. Ran for about half an hour but to my own music. I had a hellish night with gismo (DS2) who was inexplicably awake between 2 and 7am. It really cleared my head. I will miss Laura but I preferred my choice of music.

What do people who run to their own music listen to?
My playlist today was
Goldfrapp - black cherry
Muse - Time is running out
Franz Ferdinand - Ulysses
David Bowie - Golden years
AD/DC - Back in black
Daft punk - harder, better, faster, stronger
We are scientists - nobody move
David bowie - heroes

ChameleonCircuit · 20/09/2014 14:29

My Garmin is pink and grey. Grin

FiveGoMadInDorset · 20/09/2014 15:59

Well done Cru and Dotty for the par runs.

Enormouse I love the Antrim Coast, we go over near Ballymena everg year and stay up in Ballycastle every other year.

I had my gait analysis done which was really interesting. My ankles fall inwards which explains the hurting so I am now in possession of some nice new shiny trainers. The girl was lovely and made me feel very comfortable and not fat and frumpy at all.

CruCru · 20/09/2014 16:21

So I just found out that my time was 37:08, I came 169 out of 187 runners, was the 58th woman and came 4th in my age category.

I am in the IoW so it is quite a mixed bunch, age wise.

OP posts:
CruCru · 20/09/2014 16:21

Sorry, that means Isle of Wight.

OP posts:
CruCru · 20/09/2014 16:25

Enormouse - it was a great atmosphere. Everyone was really nice.

Chameleon - I LOVE the Garmin. And need one as well. Which is it? My brother has a Garmin Forerunner 220 but I don't know much about them.

OP posts:
CruCru · 20/09/2014 16:41

Dotty - you are not crap. Who on earth would say that you are? You did something active and pushed yourself on a Saturday morning. It wasn't school sports day (thank God!) and no one else will judge you.

Well done for those who have done park runs this weekend. I finally got to do Wk1r3 but Laura cut herself off after 20 mins. I think I am finding it an issue to try to keep my phone in my pocket and may have pressed something accidentally. So I need a solution to this and I am going to do one more week one run before progressing, just because my cold has set me back a bit. But hopefully I should finally be able to progress a bit!

CruCru · 20/09/2014 19:34

You need one of those armband things for your phone.

OP posts:
ChameleonCircuit · 20/09/2014 20:07

Sports direct do Karrimor armbands for £5 574ejones

CruCru - it's a Forerunner 110 and it's a refurb from eBay.

CruCru · 20/09/2014 22:23

Hey, earlier on the thread someone was asking about running music. On another thread someone recommended 101 Running Songs (iTunes), looks pretty good.

stilllearnin · 20/09/2014 22:28

I'm struggling with the mobile site but have done some great runs this week. Intervals, a 6.5k, and 5.5k- the last was great (I mean there was sweating and puffing but it felt a lot better). My park run is round a bloody rec and so I'm feeling jealous of some of you. Dotty sometimes it feels a bit hard - all the weirder for being so much better at other times. Your next run will be a breeze by comparison Thanks

spookyskeleton · 21/09/2014 15:01

Afternoon everyone.

dotty don't be too hard on yourself! From my (limited) experience of them, they are very supportive atmospheres and it really doesn't mattet how fast or slow you are. Better than not doing anything at all Smile

Just completed my second official 10k this morning. It was a lovely run through beautiful countryside but ended with the most hideous hill EVER and I admit I did walk up it Sad despite that I still knocked 7 minutes off my previous time so feeling quite chuffed Grin

Hope everyone is ok (and yes, to whoever said Runaway was too fast to run to, you are absolutely correct Wink )
