Oh no, don't say that Chameleon! I've been believing what MapMyRun says! Oh well, I'm definitely running further (and therefore faster) in my 30 minutes Smile.

W9R2 done Smile. I saw a bat.

CruCru · 16/09/2014 22:18

Oh wow, where are you based? I love bats.

I have just plotted where I ran today and it says that I did just over 5km rather than 5.8km. Oh well.

I'm not allowed a Garmin watch until Christmas. Apparently I am difficult to buy for.

ScienceRocks · 16/09/2014 22:36

What is a garmin watch? Is it a posh pedometer?

This is the one I'm waiting for. No HRM but that'd probably scare me into stopping anyway! Grin

EdwiniasRevenge · 17/09/2014 10:36

Well...I just went out to do W7r3. (25mins)

but I felt good....so I did an extra 3mins and have logged it as W8r1 instead.

And it was a fast (for me) one. I covered 4km in total and achieved a personal best over 1km, 1mile and 2miles.

Good run. Happy today :-)

DaftMaul · 17/09/2014 10:39

Completed W3R1. Yay! It seemed to go really fast, time wise.

Left home with ds as he walked to his friend's to get the bus to school and made him walk 'briskly' with me Grin He gave me a lecture about not wearing my headphones whilst I was crossing roads. Yes, thankyou ds!

I could have done without nearly bumping into Col Firth as I ran/shuffled past his house though!

I have wondered about Map My Walk since it registered that I had covered over 4k on my first session!

enormouse · 17/09/2014 12:10

daft Grin. Your DS sounds sweet. I wish I could casually bump into Colin Firth. Sadly the only celebrity I might bump into is James Nesbitt. Liam Neeson is another possibility but I'd really have to go out of my way.

edwinia I'm in awe of you. I did my last interval run yesterday and will be doing W6R3 tomorrow (eek). R2 was easier than R1 of this week but I don't know how I'll do without the safety net of the intervals.

DaftMaul · 17/09/2014 13:32

Haha. Enormouse, I was at college with James Nesbitt! Eons ago obvs!

Well done Edwinia!

WastingMyYoungYears · 17/09/2014 21:48

Bloody hell DaftMaul Grin. Can you possibly put in a good word for me with Colin Firth? Just tell him that I've only got 1 run to do on C25K, and that I am Fit Grin.

Iggi999 · 17/09/2014 22:49

Good grief. I am going to have to rethink my running outfits if there is a possibility of running into famous people! (Knowing my luck round here it would be Alex Salmond).

ScienceRocks · 17/09/2014 23:04

I never see famous people on my runs. I just get a lot of dog love (for the dog, who is a bit of a looker). And I get red. And sweaty. A bit like Angry Blush Confused All at once.

Mind you, there was a rumour that Michael buble was living nearby but I reckon he's in the posh gated bit and not the common bit I live in. I find the running hard enough without trying to clamber over electric fences with a dog in tow Wink

enormouse · 18/09/2014 11:31

I present my dps contribution to local celebrities:
"Michael Fassbenders mum". Hmm. Said with a withering look and accompanying statement of "that's the best you're gonna get round here, love".

I wonder where's best in the UK for casually running into celebrities. Camden was pretty good for indie rocker types and Amy Winehouse.

ScienceRocks · 18/09/2014 11:57

enormouse, how does he know that it is Michael Fassbender's mum? I never recognise famous people. Once at an airport, I was getting quite irate that the man in front of me was taking ages at the passport booth, and only realised when DH told me that the passport officla had been getting autographs from the footballer David James Blush

I also once waved and nodded to someone I recognised in a student nightclub, thinking he was on my course at uni. A friend promptly told me that he was an actor from Eastenders Blush

I also utterly failed to recognise Robert Webb in front of me in the queue for a cab outside a theatre, despite having spent the previous two hours watching him in a starring role in a production at said theatre Blush

I am hopeless and not just at running

enormouse · 18/09/2014 14:44

Apparently everyone round here knows. (I'm not originally from round here, think Simon Pegg in hot fuzz. It's that kind of place).

I'm like you science, I am awful with faces.

I've just come back from R3 of W6. I feel great, even managed a sprint at the end, and possibly alarmed an elderly gent walking a tiny dog. But wooo! According to Laura I'm a runner now. Grin

ScienceRocks · 18/09/2014 17:20

Well done enormouse! stamps foot at having not been called a runner by Laura yet

I have just done week 3 run 2. Considering I had osteopathy yesterday and was literally crying at the pain in my hips last night, I'm very pleased. It was also spookily easy, but I put that down to it being on the treadmill and not outside.

Nightfall1983 · 18/09/2014 17:25

Right, I'm doing W5R2 later; it took me three attempts to complete W5R1 so I'm feeling quite apprehensive about it, how on earth am I going to be able to run for 8 whole minutes - twice? It feels like a massive jump from 5 to 8 minutes to me, I need some 6.5 min runs to work up to it I think...

WastingMyYoungYears · 18/09/2014 18:33

Hurray, I've just done W9R3 SmileSmileSmile! I can't believe I've finished C25K!

And if I can do it, everyone else can too. I probably found the middle runs of C25K the hardest, so don't be put off by thinking that it's just going to get more and more difficult - it really isn't, it's just going to get a bit longer.

Right, does anyone know any good apps / programs to use after C25K Grin?

addictedtosugar · 18/09/2014 20:11

Congrats Wasting what do you want to do? I worked through some C25K+ podcasts on the NHS website, and am sticking with w5r3 (lunch from work) and w9 (evenings) along with the stamina of the C25K+ series.
Several people have decided they want to progress to 10k, and there are apps for that. Someone also linked to these podcasts (Spooky?) which I keep meaning to try.

Nightfall Honestly, once your over 5 mins, it doesn't seem to get any harder. Getting to 5mins is the worst for me. Mind over matter is now the case (or mind over legs/lungs, which ever fails first for you). Just remember to go slow enough.

And someone asked about the shin splint excerise: yes, I agree with the explanation.

LaughingM · 18/09/2014 20:38

Well done Science, although be careful with your hip! Hope it feels vaguely better after osteopathic pummelling!

Wasting, congratulations!!! I hope you are celebrating somehow!

Best of luck Nightfall. As we can all attest, you will get there - however many tries it takes!

I've just done w7r3 and really enjoyed it again. I am very excited about finally attempting week 8 over the weekend… 7 has definitely been my nemesis! It was also my first run in the almost-dark. Not convinced that I like it as much as long summer evenings!

Nightfall1983 · 18/09/2014 21:01

Well I did it and actually it wasn't too bad at all. I was glad for the 5 min walk, I did need the full time to recover but it went quite well really.

I'm really not up for the 20 min run that is W5R3 yet though so I think I'll redo this one once more before moving on. I've just realised this was the middle run though, I'm now just over half way through the program!

WastingMyYoungYears · 18/09/2014 21:56

Thank you addicted and Laughing Smile. I'll check out some apps / podcasts. I think I'd like to build up to 5K next - I run just over 4K in 30 minutes at the moment, so there's definitely room for improvement!

KiaOraOAotearoa · 18/09/2014 22:36

Lovely ladies, a bit of advice needed, please.
I have well and trully hurt my tibias, to the point where I can walk, but just about. All I did was a couple of weeks with the NHS.
I'm not exagerating, I've really done quite a bit of damage, short term only, the ACL is not affected, but the haematomas are excruciating.
Where did I go wrong? I have a BMI of 24, I do a physical job, I swim, never had fractures etc etc. Where did I go wrong?
I was told it'll take about a month before it gets better. Then it is up to me whether I go back to running or take up something with less impact.

I enjoy running, don't want to give up just yet, but the pain in my knees isn't touched by ibuprofen full strength and paracetamol together.
So, any advice?

ChameleonCircuit · 19/09/2014 10:57

Can you go see a sports physio? I was told that if there is pain, it could be caused by weakness/misalignment elsewhere. I've been recommended a podiatrist for my ankle pain but he's in Leeds. I asked a sports medicine student I know - could you try the sports med dept at your nearest uni? Hope you're back running soon!

KiaOraOAotearoa · 19/09/2014 21:26

Thank you chameleon. I was seen by a surgeon. I'm expecting a few physios for dinner tomorrow, I'll get one of them to have a look :)
I suspect it's just the sheer size of my behind nailing my tibias to the pavement and I should cycle, lose the stone and a half and then it might get a bit better.
