Also, I've registered with Park Run. Planning to do my first in the Isle of Wight the weekend after next.

W6r3 done. Laura says I'm officially a runner now. Wooo!

It was tough as it was in full sun. My pegs were like jelly when i stopped running. I litterally couldn't walk in a straight line. I almost couldn't stand. But that didn't happen until I stopped running and started walking....wierd.
No shade either.

I feel conned tho. The zenlabs app which I've never actually used but use as a reference point to mentally prepare for the next session says I should have run for 22mins but laura made me run for 25 :(
As for running in the dark gear...my running tights and long sleeve top both have reflective strips on which theoretically are on the sides but they are more towards the front. I am not sure I will be seen from behind...

DaftMaul · 09/09/2014 12:06

This is the clip I was talking about earlier - tips to avoid injury. It sounds as though all you distance runners are beyond needing this now though. Brilliant!

DaftMaul · 09/09/2014 12:07

Crucru, have you tried a 'hard reset' on your phone? That seemed to help with mine turning the volume up to maximum!

DottyDot · 09/09/2014 12:37

ooh Cru you're nearly there..! Grin

Edwinias I feel like that when I get off the treadmill - very wobbly when I've stopped and usually I get on a bike machine thingy and pretend to do some cycling - mainly though it's the only place to sit down in the gym Grin

stilllearnin · 09/09/2014 13:32

Top tips from dotty! Well done Edwinias. That is brilliant. My route has no shade either- makes a hell of a difference I know.

GinAndSonic · 09/09/2014 14:13

Hello, ive just downloaded the c25k app, i cant start yet as i have no exercise clothes or trainers and no money to buy them until my tax credits are sorted, but in the meantime, can anyone recommend decent, cheap trainers? My mate says tesco sell technical running leggings and trainers etc, are they any good?
Im bloody terrified but i want to be fit.

DaftMaul · 09/09/2014 15:01

Ginandsonic, you could try TKMaxx. They often have stuff in.

Dottydot, that did make me laugh Grin

ScienceRocks · 09/09/2014 16:28

Ginandsonic, my running gear is all from sainsburys. Quite reasonable and pretty good. I wear my very old Nike runners.

ScienceRocks · 09/09/2014 16:28

Dottydot, love your stealth sitting down after running Grin

lovelidl · 09/09/2014 18:10

I hadn't run a step since school, 15 years ago! And even then I hated PE. I am very pleased at how far I have came and even more pleased that I enjoy it! Only wish I had started years ago, before housework, dogs, babies, work and husband - I used to have so much time and I didn't even realise! Each run now takes planning before I get out the door!

Stupid question time - what side of the road do you run on? I think officially you are meant to run towards traffic? I feel very unsafe doing that on our twisty country roads as cars wouldn't see you on corners? Anyway DH and I disagree and he keeps moaning at me for being on the wrong side....

CruCru · 09/09/2014 19:14

Honestly, I think you are meant to run on the side where you are most visible. Usually this will be against the traffic. How visible are you? Please don't say you run all in black.

OP posts:
lovelidl · 09/09/2014 19:42

Mostly black - although my leggings do have reflective strips and my trainers are bright pink :) Will need to get brighter for the winter months.

ScienceRocks · 09/09/2014 20:21

Lovelidl, you should run on the side that means you are less likely to get hurt!

No run for me again today. DH got home from work at a decent time but went straight upstairs, changed into his tennis gear and then went out again Angry So I did jillian instead, and now I'm doing more of that than I am c25k, I feel I should swap thread Blush

spookyskeleton · 09/09/2014 20:49

lovelidl 15k...wow Shock that is seriously impressive running and at a fast pace aswell.

Well went out tonight and managed.......8.5k Grin Not bad for my first run back. Took an hour and I really enjoyed it. Now got to face a 12k run at half 7 on Sunday morning - utter madness I think!!

Those of you doing this by yourselves deserve a lot of praise as it is so difficult to keep going when it starts to get tricky. I couldn't achieve the distances I run without the support of a group.

DaftMaul · 10/09/2014 11:21

W2R1 completed! It actually wasn't too bad. I ran around a park (not my nearest one, in an effort to avoid people I know) and it did seem better to be running on smooth paths rather than pavements and having to cross roads.

I might invest in a proper lightweight running t-shirt - not ready for anything clingy, but something that will dry quickly. I can see when the weather gets colder, a sweaty t-shirt will be quite chilly.

Spooky, very impressed, you will be doing 15k soon too!

Iggi999 · 10/09/2014 18:57

Hello, w9r2 over. Have collapsed on floor in a red-faced trembling heap! I picture all of you when I'm running for moral support!
Getting a bit worried about being finished with Laura Sad Not sure where to go next without someone ordering me about.

addictedtosugar · 10/09/2014 19:36

I graduated a year ago, and am still running with Laura.
W5r3 is perfect for my lunch loop, and w9 for 5km ('cause I can't do a 30 min 5km Sad)

The NHS also has 3 C25K+ podcasts - the stamina one nearly gets me through 7.5km. I also do speed (intervals), but have dropped stepping stones.

Well run Iggi

CruCru · 10/09/2014 19:40

Oh wow, well done DaftMaul and Iggi.

OP posts:
CruCru · 10/09/2014 19:41

lovelidl - drivers probably won't see your trainers. Why don't you get one of those bright hello reflective strips to go across your top?

Sorry to nag. When I'm driving I look out for cyclists but not for runners.

KiaOraOAotearoa · 10/09/2014 19:48

W2R1 done this morning. It wasn't too bad, but I am suffering now, boy I ache.
Then walked around shops for 4 hours, I looked at running shoes. Good god, the choice!!! I have no idea where to even begin, so I backed out and found solace in a lebanese restaurant. As you do.
My next run is probably friday morning, the 3rd one on Sunday morning, I love running on Sunday mornings!!!

LaughingM · 10/09/2014 20:02

Eurgh I've just had one of my most horrible runs to date… w7r1 (again). I have a chest infection and just could not co-ordinate breathing/running/coughing. Had to stop at 20 mins to fend off a panic attack Sad.

However, I am now going to stop being a martyr and start taking antibiotics and hope that next time is better. At least w7 is the same run three times, so I can do r2 next time without feeling like i'm endlessly repeating myself.

Well done to all those having more success than I am!

CruCru · 10/09/2014 20:10

LaughingM - if you have a chest infection, you probably shouldn't run. Take a few days break, look after yourself.

OP posts:
addictedtosugar · 10/09/2014 21:13

Laughing please, if you've got anything like the coughs that are round here at the moment, take some time off.

I'm on about day 8 of no exercise at the moment. Yes, I'd love to go out, but I'm about to head off to bed. I'm shattered, and hacking my lungs out like a 100/day smoker. I've had time off before (2 weeks), and its fine getting back into it. Just take one step back from where you were, and it all come back.

Your in this for the long run Grin taking an extra week now to finish the plan, but keeping fit and healthy so you can run for the upcomming weeks months and years is the plan. Not to get it all done and dusted in 9 weeks so you can retire your trainers.

Take it easy, my love.

WastingMyYoungYears · 10/09/2014 21:29

Phew, W8R2 done Smile. I hate crossing roads, I hate running around people, and I hate running past other runners Confused. Oh, and I hate hills too.

I do love running though Grin.
