Okay, it's not just 30 Day Shred anymore but if you would like to log your daily JM fix and get some tips and tricks from fellow Shredders, step this way.

:)

Meh. My cat will deal with the rats later...

BustleInYourHedgerow · 05/07/2014 00:09

Oh god shadows if I have a day like that I will leave it. Fuck him. You can do this and don't let him mess it up on you.

Yadah - total daily energy expenditure. :)

I totally avoid L2 owl, it fecks up my back. I do not have a great back and work makes it worse. Don't need excercise to make it worse too!

ImogenQuy · 05/07/2014 07:41

RI30 L1 D10 done. L2 beckons, groan. Going to have tomorrow off though.

I agree weighing is counter-productive: I was feeling really good about myself after week 1 of the Shred in May, made the mistake of weighing myself and realised I was two pounds heavier. It didn't actually make any difference to the fit of my clothes or anything like that, it just made me pointlessly gloomy.

ShadowsShadowsEverywhere · 05/07/2014 07:55

Morning! Apparently it's normal to gain weight initially when you start an new exercise routine. It's to do with your body not being used to it and sending fluid to the site of the injuries - tiny tears in muscle from lifting weights etc. it tends to settle after a few weeks and the weight will then come off. So fear not, a weight gain actually means the exercise is working!

Feeling much better this morning. Was up at 6am without the kids and got to have a cup of tea in peace. Have tidied everywhere, got kids up and am going to give them bfast and then do shred. Am quietly very pleased that it's chucking it down with rain as means ex can't Disney dad his way to a festival with them today . He will have to actually play and engage with them at his house and use his brain to find suitable activities for them.

I'm also down another inch on my waist! Hell yeah Grin

ImogenQuy · 05/07/2014 07:56

Well done Shadows! Another inch is awesome.

OwlCapone · 05/07/2014 08:24

Morning!

Am quietly very pleased that it's chucking it down with rain as means ex can't Disney dad

With you there :o However, it puts a dampener [arf] on my plans too.

I am going to go easy with L2. I didn't get any twinges from my back on the first attempt and it's no worse this morning so I might try it every other day and see how it goes. It just contained movements I would never consider doing normally (that twisty jumpy one for example).

Yay to Shadows for another inch lost. I'm holding off trying on any of he summer clothe that no longer fit me which will be my test. I'll need to try them a week before I go away to give me chance to buy new ones if it has all gone horribly wrong!

Tangoandcreditcards · 05/07/2014 09:35

Morning! Day 4 of my first ever shred done. Am so impressed with everyone who has done it several times, and your achievements. I feeling like I've done 4 months, not 4 days, goodness knows how I'll get through a month (and beyond). Did have a little hangover yesterday (such a lightweight since DS!) and still did it to counteract wine calories!

bustle I've yet to check out level 2 - is it your lower back you have problems with? I had a mastectomy and they used my lower back muscles to reconstruct so I find anything that needs a lot of lower back support v difficult indeed because I have to rely on arms and abs entirely (e.g. Push ups - can do modified but will never be able to do full). I may have to do the same and skip L2 if there's a LOT of planking for example.

OwlCapone · 05/07/2014 10:13

There is a lot of planking IMO. It's on You Tube, give it look.

OwlCapone · 05/07/2014 10:14

I wonder if you could do L2 but sub in the L1 exercises for the ones you can't do?

Tangoandcreditcards · 05/07/2014 11:44

I've had a peek, reckon it should be doable if I stick to Anita... But it's all easier when you're just watching - I'm getting way ahead of myself anyway, need to do 6 more days of L1 before I even have to think about it!

ShadowsShadowsEverywhere · 05/07/2014 12:20

Twat came and picked kids up, nearly reduced me to tears. I shut the door, cried for five mins and then came back fighting. Fifteen minute HIIT and abs workout followed by 30DSL2D2. I gave it everything. And now I feel fucking amazing!

Chococroc · 05/07/2014 12:40

30DS L1 D10 just done -goin on to level 2 tomorrow, feeling a little nervous about it, think I'll watch it today so I know what I'm letting myself in for.

OwlCapone · 05/07/2014 13:24

And now I feel fucking amazing!

Yay!

I did my 2nd day of L2 and subbed in ordinary press ups for the walking ones as my lower back just doesn't bend properly to let me do the walking ones and I subbed in bicycle crunches for the twisty plank things in the last ab work out. I find I don't have the strength in my wrists to hold me in a plank position to do some of the exercises.

IfYouCouldSeeMeNow · 05/07/2014 13:29

I'm on day 12 now - 2 weeks on Monday!

I'm doing JMs extreme Shed and Shred although I'm not managing the full 60 minutes each day due to time.

I feel fitter and a bit thinner today, but we'll see if it lasts!

Fuckalella · 05/07/2014 14:39

You are fucking amazing Shadows, well done!

I'm having a bit of a wobble today, up to D7 of L1 shred, been calorie logging at 1200 religiously using MFP but not lost a single pound or inch Confused

ShadowsShadowsEverywhere · 05/07/2014 19:49

Back from lovely linner (afternoon equiv of brunch) with lovely friends.

Fuckalella you aren't losing because you aren't eating enough. Google 'eating back your exercise calories' and find the link to a thread on mfp. It explains why it's important to eat way more. So I'm eating 2320 calories a day and losing weight because if you up your exercise and eat less you create a deficit. Your body needs a certain number of calories just to stay alive - so to breathe, pump blood around. For me I need around 1200. If I exercise, esp this type of HIIT exercise I use additional calories. So if all I was eating was 1200 where would my body find the energy to fuel that exercise? It wouldn't, I'd have a deficit. You need to eat enough to fuel the exercise which gives your body the energy to work hard and you lose weight. The thread I've mentioned explains it better but basically you aren't going to lose any weight eating that few calories.

ShadowsShadowsEverywhere · 05/07/2014 19:52

here you go

ShadowsShadowsEverywhere · 05/07/2014 20:00

That sounds sensible Owl. It's a real jump up from level one isn't it? I really struggled with the "no don't stop, keep moving" thing esp when there was so much plank and shoulder stuff. I guess that's good though, if it hurts it must be doing something!

Fuckalella · 05/07/2014 21:19

Thanks Shadows, that makes sense will give it a go. I have gone over my calories today actually, crisps and wine though so don't think that counts as fuel!

I've seen some sources that claim it's better to have rest days from exercise, is there any truth in this or is it better to carry on doing it daily?

ImogenQuy · 05/07/2014 21:24

I think it is better to have a rest day or two each week - the RI30 DVD actually says you should do it 5 or 6 days per week, not 7.

OublietteBravo · 05/07/2014 21:42

Im aiming for 5 days a week (I don't always succeed). I did 30DS L1D7 this evening. It seems fairly easy now (I've swapped butt kicks into circuit 1 and jump rope into circuit 2 which has helped me massively).

Fuckalella · 05/07/2014 21:50

Thanks guys, tomorrow will now be my day of rest Smile (strained my back a bit today so probably for the best)

Swapping the jump rope and butt kicks is a great idea, didn't think of that! I always find the circuit 3 jump rope easier than the first set so will give it a go!

ddas · 05/07/2014 22:31

Glad you've said about the day of rest as I've had yesterday and today as unwanted rest days due to in laws staying round yesterday and a wedding today.

ddas · 05/07/2014 22:32

Back on it tomorrow!

Chococroc · 06/07/2014 14:39

Did day 1 of level 2 this morning, hard work but I did it! I don't seem to be quite as coordinated as I need to be but I'll get there..!
