HalleLouja - that's a brilliant time. When we do get to do St Albans together you can get the cake in whilst I finish :o
Managed 4.9 today at a reasonably slow pace as was still very achy from the mad speed session I did on Thursday. Had planned to do a longer run but decided to be sensible instead.

253.6

HalleLouja · 09/08/2014 13:28

Did someone say cake? I bought some yummy cakes from Simmons to celebrate.

Have decided I need a Garmin though. Had enough of Runkeeper pausing after I set it. Especially as I didn't have my earphones on to hear what was going on. Am thinking of getting one of ebay. The more basic one.

Morrigu · 09/08/2014 17:42

Fabulous time HalleLouja.

5 miles to add 258.6 and it was very slow but successful. Breathing was good, back to usual and enjoyed it. Got caught in teaming down torrential rain with thunder and lightning which was so much fun although it wrecked my mp3 player (currently sitting in a bag of rice in the hot press) which then meant I had to listen to my shoes squelching loudly for miles. Somehow still ended up with running clothes tan lines in the seconds the sun blinked through Hmm Just spent two weeks trying to get rid of them.

BetsyBell · 09/08/2014 20:50

Hello!

Are we back on miles? I've been on holiday but took my running stuff :) I managed a very poor 3.4miles on the SW coastal path and regretted choosing a route with a chuffing steep hill - it almost killed me! Worth it for the views after I'd stopped puffing and panting.

I've got to step it up a bit this week - feeling very out of shape after a week of over-eating and drinking. I'm now feeling a bit worried about a couple of 10k runs I'm meant to be doing next month, especially as I've got another holiday at the end of August!

Need to focus...

262

5madthings · 09/08/2014 21:47

Evening, well done on your five mikes morrigu hope your mp3 player dries out ok!

Betsy that's still a very reasonable run esp with hills!

I have been doing hill Sprint training once a week as part of a shorter run to help improve my pace. I noticed the difference today, I dud 7km with a few small hills or as hilly as you get in Norfolk and I found I could keep up my pace on the hills. I set out aiming to do 5km tonight but got into a good groove so dud 7km and could have kept going but it was getting dark and I didn't have a reflective top on. I have a reflective jacket but it was too hot for that I need to get a reflective vest I think.

266.3 I think 7 km is 4.3miles?

emummy · 10/08/2014 11:50

270.5 after 4.2 miles through the forest this morning. Hill race 2 weeks today, getting nervous now! Ran up a big hill today, hope it helps!

karatekimmi · 10/08/2014 12:06

Went for a long run, hoping for 10
Miles, got about 3.2 miles in and my left calf was feeling a bit tight. As I was running along the costal
Path between Filey and Scarborough I thought I better turn back. About half a mile latery calf muscle popped and was painful feels like a tear but I'm no expert had to hobble back 1.5 miles and get my dad to pick me up from the car park Sad sat on the sofa, have iced it and had a bath, just wondering what next? Compression? Would deep heat or freeze spray help? My half marathon is looking doubtful!!

HalleLouja · 10/08/2014 12:10

Oh no Kimmi. No helpful advice but hope all feels better soon.

emummy · 10/08/2014 12:32

Oh no karatekimmi! Would think it's the old RICE - rest, ice, compression, elevation and see how it goes. Obviously painkillers too, antiinfammatories like ibuprofen if you an take them. Not sure deep heat would be much help, if the muscle is inflamed. Hope it settles down quickly for you.

Morrigu · 10/08/2014 12:46

Oh no kimmi. I would go for the ice and ibuprofen too. Heat will encourage blood flow and make the area swell more I would think. Think I remember reading heat should be used only after a couple of days but I could be wrong. Hope it's just a slight strain and settles down quickly for you.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/08/2014 13:01

Sorry to hear that karatekimmi, sounds painful :( ibuprofen will help, dh always makes me take it for anti inflammatory reasons if I've hurt myself. I'm not a calf expert so can advise other than that!

postmanpatscat · 10/08/2014 16:54

Welcome back morrigu sounds like you're starting to get back in the groove with your latest run.

kimmi hope you soon recover.

278.7 with kimmi's initial 3.2 miles and my five on the hotel treadmill. We are in Newcastle til Friday then off to Dubai on Saturday for two weeks.

feetheart · 10/08/2014 17:34

kimmi - ouch, ouch, ouch. Hope lots of ice, rest and ibuprofen help.

Just to say that Aldi have running stuff in at the moment (saw it somewhere on MN but not sure where!) I got a vest and t-shirt today in turquoise and black (the only other colour was pink and black and I don't do pink on principle :)) Didn't have capris in my size in turquoise but they looked nice. All at £7.99 each I think. They also had socks, bras and some compression stuff but, as usual, get in quick. If anyone local (or a Wolef runner) comes across medium turquoise capris could you grab a pair for me please?

I have finally stopped aching after Thursday's speed session with the running club so am ready to try running with a much faster group tomorrow. Just hope I can keep up.

Morrigu · 10/08/2014 22:56

Thanks postmanpatscat. I'm breaking no records with my speeds but plodding along ok. Have a lovely time in Dubai you lucky duck.

Little 3.7 to add today 282.4. No run tomorrow, think I'll hit the gym in the morning instead.

No Aldi here. Not fair :(

Hope you're feeling better now kimmi

feetheart · 11/08/2014 07:28

Lidl sometimes do running stuff too and I know of at least one Lidl in NI.

ThursdayLast · 11/08/2014 19:27

A boring uninspiring 4miles from me tonight.
Had great plans for a big run but simply could not get into it. After effects of an all day wedding on Saturday I suspect. Still, it's good to keep moving.

So I make that 288.4

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 11/08/2014 20:01

Went for a lovely 4 mies this afternoon which brings us to 292.4.

Got my first running club session tomorrow evening. It's a beginner's course and after the 2 month course ends I'm hoping to join the main club. A beginner's course is a great idea - I'm really looking forward to it as I normally train alone Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 11/08/2014 20:58

Long doggy run tonight on new route so 6.5 miles to add 298.9

Runkittyrun · 11/08/2014 21:19

10 miles from Saturday and 5 miles from Thursday (incl 5k race). Local league meet, including quite a steep hill so pleased to be not too far outside of 25 mins.
Kimmi - hope you're healing well.

cinnamon - looks like I'm doing stage 8 of RNR so may bump into at the checlpoint (you're doing stage 7 IIRC?). I'm a bit worried as it'll be a week after the hm but it should be fun to take part.

New total 313.9

cinnamongreyhound · 11/08/2014 21:31

Yes stage 7, depends how speedy your club are! I'm expected to start at 4pm and take 1hr 26mins :) I'm really nervous about it!

feetheart · 11/08/2014 22:16

4.7 miles from me tonight. Ran with much a faster group at running club and think I may have found where I fit :) They will certainly keep me on my toes and push me - came in at just under 10mins a mile over the route and I'm pretty sure if I had been on my own I wouldn't have managed that. However I can't get back for another 2 weeks now as we are on holiday from Thurs-Weds and I miss the following Thursday, which is the annual club handicap race, as we are off to see Bellowhead for my birthday :o
I do have parkrun tourism planned though and, hopefully, a run along the beach on my birthday.

Total - 318.6

Runkittyrun · 11/08/2014 22:22

Not sure how speedy we will be this year cinnamon, one of our teams won something last year (nothing to do with me!). This year I think ours is a mixed team, my start time is 1640 but that's a guestimate. I'm also nervous - will my legs still work??
Feetheart, the faster group sounds like you really enjoyed it Smile and a beach run on your birthday will be cool!

cinnamongreyhound · 11/08/2014 22:41

I won't be at your changeover point until 5.30 then runkittyrun, I marshalled Thetford change over last year and runners came in from 1am until 4.30am so a bit gap even that far in! It's the pressure of letting everyone else down. I'm going to recce my route on 7th sept I think. I did a 10 miler in 1hr 33 the week after my last hm which wasn't bad, sure you'll be fine!

Bluebird89 · 12/08/2014 17:56

Been very lazy with my runs this past week but managed 5.1 tonight. Really enjoyable run. Total 323.7

postmanpatscat · 12/08/2014 21:27

A treadmill 10k from me to add. Had to go for a pee after 2k though and then jump back on! That's 329.9 altogether.
