For all running chat!

OP posts:
originalpiratematerial · 30/07/2014 16:09

blathers snap - exactly where my pain is. And it feels like something is rubbing on that bony ridge when I run - I think it's called the iliac crest?

Blatherskite · 30/07/2014 17:54

So whatever is wrong is wrong with both of us...now to just work out what it is!

originalpiratematerial · 30/07/2014 23:49

I have seen a sports massage therapist and a physio - both of whom think it's a case of tight muscles. So I've had it all released a couple of times. They both think I need to warm up more before running, stretch more, and use foam roller more, especially the evening before running. And do that hip release thing with a strategically positioned tennis ball.

Blatherskite · 31/07/2014 09:58

Tell me more about the tennis ball trick...

I've been told that mine is weak inner thigh muscles so I've been working on those and am consequently walking like John Wayne. Went to a track session last night which helped as I was only running for 400m at a time with a 2 minute rest between each lap. It meant that I wasn't running tired so was running with better form so while my hip was definitely niggling, it never got properly sore and I wasn't in agony after the session like I was after parkrun at the weekend. My hip feels good this morning but the DOMS in my thighs is definitely a lot worse. I'm hoping that means that they were working harder than normal and the hip pain might subside.

Training plan says that I should be doing more core work today. Need to fit that in while the kids are about as The Wife is coming over tonight to help me get the parkrun stuff in order before the weekend.

cinnamongreyhound · 31/07/2014 11:03

Got up early on my day off and ran to meeting point to find no friend :( waited 10mins and then went back to bed! Actually went back to sleep until 8.30! Bless her, she was working until 11 and just slept through her alarm, we're going tomorrow instead so I have no more to add for July Shock August tomorrow!

PulsesARagingEyesFullofWonder · 31/07/2014 20:13

Haven't run for a week, so very much still getting back to it slowly and watching out for my hamstring. But 25 minutes to add to the total, if it's still going.

130:09:36 ??

And just wanted to say that I'll be thinking of you briteside and wishing you all the best. What a fitting (and lovely) username you have!

MrsHuxtableReturns · 31/07/2014 21:38

That's my first holiday run done. It's so different running on flat ground. Did 11.64k. So I have 1:18:56 to add. 131:28:32

Runkittyrun · 31/07/2014 21:59

Hullo all, haven't been around but have now caught up with the thread. Hope all those with injuries are on the mend soon.
briteside fingers crossed for you, best wishes.

I have 17 hours to add to the total for July (160km). Had a week out with a parotid infection (looked like a hamster!) so down around 40km/5 hours on my plan.

New total is 148:28:32.

feetheart · 31/07/2014 23:00

I've got a 40 mins speed session to add so 149:08:32

Please can we go back to miles tomorrow :)

cinnamongreyhound · 01/08/2014 07:34

I will make a start for August then :) 4miles!

HalleLouja · 01/08/2014 09:30

27 minutes ish from me yesterday. The worst run in a long time but 149:35:32.

Blatherskite · 01/08/2014 09:45

Ah, back to miles, that'll be easier :)

emummy · 01/08/2014 11:04

7 miles from me up hills again this morning! really muggy so was quite out of breath. Only 23 days till the hill race, starting to get a bit worried!

PulsesARagingEyesFullofWonder · 01/08/2014 11:16

Would I be really silly to jog round the Park Run tomorrow?
The last time I did it, I had a rather spectacular fall (flat on face, took skin off large portion of leg, pulled hamstring).

My hamstring is feeling okay, but I've not run much since.
I'd definitely have to just jog it.

But the alternative is running on my own, and I hate running on my own. I generally don't get the chance to do the Park Run as it's DH's thing, and I run with my friend. But she's still on holiday, and MIL is staying so can look after the kids....
argh! The worst that can happen is my leg hurts and I just stop, right?
The worst that can happen is my stupid competitive (with myself) nature and pride kick in, and I overdo it, and try to run too fast.....

BlueChampagne · 01/08/2014 12:02

A final 1:13:09 to end of Thursday, bringing us to 150:48:41. Will crack on with some miles later!

Good luck Briteside - I'm sure your fitness will be to your advantage.

cinnamongreyhound · 01/08/2014 15:58

If you can be sensible PulsesARagingEyesFullofWonder, then do it and even if you have to walk some it's fine.

Did you do 7 miles emummy or is the total 7 with my 4 earlier? Sorry if I'm being dim!

Blatherskite · 01/08/2014 16:47

I'd do it PulsesARagingEyesFullofWonder. As long as you take it easy it'll be a lot better than running alone.

PulsesARagingEyesFullofWonder · 01/08/2014 17:25

Thanks cinnamon and Blathers Yep. Think I'll do it. Looking forward to it now :) just wanted to check I wasn't being ridiculous....

Hope to report back with 3.2 miles tomorrow then.
Have a lovely Friday evening everyone!

feetheart · 01/08/2014 18:28

HalleLouja - not going to make parkrun tomorrow as DH has had the week from hell and I would feel really mean asking him to get up and take DS to gymnastics. Hopefully another time this summer. Enjoy it if you go.

emummy · 01/08/2014 18:52

Sorry cinnamon I didn't make that clear did I?! 7 miles in total, couldn't have done 7 miles up those hills!

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 01/08/2014 19:43

I can't make St Albans either I'm afraid Halle. Sad My mum has booked DS and I tickets to a thing in London tomorrow so we have to get going early.
Enjoy it if you go. Grin

BlueChampagne · 01/08/2014 20:29

+10.84 (do we do decimal places?) from me, making 17.84 miles

HalleLouja · 01/08/2014 22:20

Am going to try and go.....

feetheart · 01/08/2014 22:55

HalleLouja - enjoy and report back :)

Blatherskite · 01/08/2014 22:55

6 miles from me tonight - my house to parkrun, the parkrun route and back as I was course checking ready for tomorrow. I even stopped and walked the last little bit to make it exactly 6 for easy adding :)

23.84 miles
