Hello to Mrs Huxtable and Bubble!

Well done to everyone on their runs.

Briteside - really have everything crossed for you. Maybe at the start some 'sanity' runs will help, whatever the distance? Stay strong, love to you and your family.

emummy · 29/07/2014 20:01

vlad according to the park run website there's a few in Glasgow, such as Pollock and Springburn. Think Pollock would be nice, that's a country park, you may have seen it as part of the commonwealth marathon course.

cinnamongreyhound · 29/07/2014 21:58

Well done Sirzy just didn't want to give you a kick up the bum when you had asked in case you needed it :)

41 mins from me pyramid intervals and then a little run 126:25:18.

originalpiratematerial · 29/07/2014 22:34

Oh briteside, so sorry to read your news. I wish you all the very best for the coming weeks and months. My heart goes out to you and your family. Healing vibes and prayers Thanks.

originalpiratematerial · 29/07/2014 22:37

I feel a bit shitty for whinging now, in the circumstances, but I was coming on here to bow out for a while as my hip has gone funny again (very abruptly and painfully when I was out running this morning). So my plans to (a) run up lots of hills (b) do at least one Northern Ireland parkrun (c) run with my brother, whilst in Ireland, may all have to take a back seat. I am pretty much giving up on HM training I think Sad as this is the third time in five weeks that I have had to take a running break for the same reason. Am thoroughly pissed off.

Blatherskite · 29/07/2014 23:19

My hip is sore too pirate Maybe we can find a solution together?

cinnamongreyhound · 30/07/2014 08:29

That's rubbish originalpiratematerial, perhaps it's time to visit a physio?

Another 46mins from me, I'm on a roll this week!! 127:11:18

BetsyBell · 30/07/2014 08:47

(((((((((Briteside))))))))) wishing you all the best with your treatment.

Oh no to continuing sore hip - sounds like it needs checking out pirate and you blatherskite.

My sore hip seems to have been resolved by one or more of the following: stopping doing twisty kicks at Tae Kwon Do; getting new trainers after running too long on old, knackered ones, resting up fully for a week, doing appropriate extra stretches before and after exercise (oop, I've let that slip recently). If it comes back I'm getting it checked out though.

39mins to add from last night

emummy · 30/07/2014 08:57

128:23:18 after 33 minutes in the rain. Am down staying with dm and going to commonwealth games tonight with dh and dcs. Sorry to hear about all the sore hips. Dr google diagnosed me with piriformis syndrome for my hip/buttock pain and the suggested stretches and exercises seemed to have helped. Hope you both get your sorted out

Blatherskite · 30/07/2014 09:23

Mine has been checked by 2 different physios. Looks like it's caused by weak inner thigh muscles which are then over-compensated for by my outer hip muscles. This is why I spent last night doing wide squats, plies and bridges thank feck I was home alone :)

I am wondering about shoes though. I have 2 pairs which I rotate between that were bought in February and April last year so while I have done a lot of running, they shouldn't yet be knackered, but the pain does seem to come on when I put them on. I was fine all day on Monday, didn't notice my hip at all - then laced up my shoes and walked from the car park to where we meet for the club run and could feel the pain even without running! I can't decide whether it's because it actually hurts more with the shoes on or if I just notice it more because I'm thinking about it if you see what I mean?

I need to go back to Sweatshop and get them looked at but it's hard when both of the children are home on holidays as going for a gait analysis and taking both of them would be traumatic. Might try being more mindful of how it feels barefoot and in other shoes and then wearing my running shoes around the house later and seeing if there is a noticable increase in pain. I'm loathed to take a week off training as I'm onto the second week of my half marathon training plan and I'm frustrated that the first time I try to do this properly, I'm still not doing enough :(

Mine feels like the top of my hip bone is bruised and if I poke it (yes, I know - just stop poking it!) it feels sore to the touch too. Where is your pain pirate?

cinnamongreyhound · 30/07/2014 09:33

Is there something that they really like to eat Blatherskite? A bag of haribos would keep mine still and quiet during gait analysis even if it's not ideal for their health to eat a whole bag between them!

BetsyBell · 30/07/2014 09:37

blathers I'm sure you already know this but I've read you should replace shoes after around 400 or 500 miles of running - they last longer the lighter you are, which makes sense.

I didn't want to take a week off either but I thought I might be doing long term damage if i didn't. Keep up the inner thigh muscle work though - I'll bet that will make the difference in the long run. A thought - do you have anywhere you can do a bit of barefoot running - just a couple of km to test out running with no shoe effects at all?

My hip pain was in the flexor ligament I think. So now I'm just trying to up my strength without aggravating it so hopefully I can get back to doing lovely spinning twisty kicks without injuring myself

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/07/2014 12:10

Thanks and ((())) to briteside. I hope the treatment goes well and please let us know how you are getting on.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 30/07/2014 12:13

Joining the painful hip brigade Smile. Mine hurts going up steps, getting on and off my bike and when I turn over in bed. I think it's related to my painful achilles, calf and ankle on the other side because I have been compensating and out of balance. I too need gait analysis and a going over by a physio but never seem to have the time. Instead I am getting more and more fed up, losing fitness and gaining weight Sad.

HalleLouja · 30/07/2014 12:45

123:58:18 includes a half hour run from me last night. I did a body conditioning class yesterday lunch time too. So today am having a well deserved rest.

TessTackle · 30/07/2014 12:46

Just checking in to say I'm missing you all almost as much as I miss running!

I hate summer holidays Sad

TessTackle · 30/07/2014 12:48

briteside I'm thinking of you, wishing you a speedy recovery! Love to you and your family Thanks

MrsHuxtableReturns · 30/07/2014 13:06

Adding my last pre holiday run from last night. I did 8k in 51:18. Still slow but 4 minutes faster than last time and it was exactly the same route.

My holiday challenge is to run 100k in 20 days. Urgh.

briteside I don't know you but I wish you and your family all the best.

BlueChampagne · 30/07/2014 13:10

Bought myself some new running shoes yesterday and found a flyer for junior park run at the shop. 2k locally on a Sunday morning for 4-14 year olds - now to sell it to the DSs!

postmanpatscat · 30/07/2014 13:21

cinnamon you can wag your finger at me all you like but it's the school hols and this teacher is off duty!!

cinnamongreyhound · 30/07/2014 13:32

129:44:36 we lost a few hours somewhere so adding them back.

Grin postmanpatscat!

Blatherskite · 30/07/2014 13:40

If I add up all my runs since January (and I got the shoes more like February as I was waiting for the endless rain to stop), that's 362 miles - divided between 2 pairs of shoes so neither of them should be dead yet.

I don't weigh an awful lot either so between that and letting them rest between runs thanks to having 2 pairs, they should last a whole lot longer.

Wondering if my gait has changed due to running more.

Pain when going up stairs and turning over in bed is very familiar OhOne

5madthings · 30/07/2014 13:48

Pain going up stairs and turning over on bed for me is related to the spd I had in pregnancy. I still get it now, it coincides with my period Landis generally niggly/achey. I notice it sometimes when I run and it sometimes feels like it needs to click back into place or something?

I have some exercises from physio and pelvic floor exercises can help. I have to make sure to stretch etc. I also find wearing tight jeans or trousers (not when running obv1) helps hold my hips/pelvis in place more.

briteside thinking of you and hoping all goes well with treatment.

Re running, I did two miles yesterday with dd in pushchair and madthings 3+4 on scooters. Not too fast as I was paranoid about ds3 falling and opening up the head wound that was glued on Sat. I think it took 25mins ish.

Hoping to run tonight as ds1 will be home so he can babysit and then tomorrow I take the madthings to stay at my sister's ans we are planning her dh can babysit whilst we run...
