Hot and sweaty 30 minute progression run from me this morning so total now 102:28:09. Having to run at 7am, even up here, it was 27 yesterday, could barely move!

MrsHuxtableReturns · 26/07/2014 11:10

Hello everyone! Wow, this is such a fast moving thread. I hope I'll be able to keep up but I'm desperately looking for somewhere to share my ups and downs of running.

I only really started running again after having children (Hyperemesis x 2 within 2 years so have to rebuild my body from scratch) a bit over 3 months ago (DC2 is now 6 months) with the C25K program. I just wanted to lose a bit of weight to begin with but have since had to deal with a hugely emotionally upsetting time in my private life and running has become a bit of a escape for me. I'm now confident I'll stick with it. I need the running endorphins to get me through my day so I have set myself a series of challenges to keep me motivated.

I now aim to run every second day, generally adding on 1k a week, though sometimes, when I feel it's a great run I go further. The furthest I've run so far has been 11k but my current goal distance is only 8k a run this week.

The challenges I've set myself are:

  1. A local 10k run in September (5 months after starting)
  2. Edinburgh Half Marathon May 2015
  3. The Great Scottish Run (Half Marathon October 2015) and then
  4. Edinburgh Marathon 2016

I'm hoping that when I cross that finish line in 2016 I will be in a happier place with my life.

I'm using a Garmin and I've joined the Team Mumsnet Group but I find it a bit dull that there's no actual chat area for the group. Unless there is and I just haven't found it.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to being part of this thread.

vladthedisorganised · 26/07/2014 15:53

Out at 8 this morning for a 13.7 mile run (though I admit I walked a bit when it got too hot). Verrry tired legs which cramped a bit in places - need to take a look at this early morning nutrition thing as I suspect I need a sports drink/gel rather than just water for that distance.

On the plus side, being slow brings our total up to 105:02:27

Will reply properly when I'm not so zonked. Poor DD hasn't been out at all today so must stagger to the park with her.. ouch!

emummy · 26/07/2014 16:55

Welcome MrsHuxtableReturns! It sounds like your running is going really well, even in the heat and I like your plans. I'm doing the Inverness 10k in September - what one are you planning? I have rather vaguer plans to do a half marathon next year, may be you'll inspire me!

MrsHuxtableReturns · 26/07/2014 17:34

Thanks for the welcome emummy! It's the Stirling Road Race I'm doing. It's all flat so apparently perfect for a beginner.

What does the fat number mean that everyone is posting? Is it hours run in total?

cinnamongreyhound · 26/07/2014 18:11

Hi MrsHuxtableReturns! Sorry to hear you're having a tough time and yay that running has helped with it! Yes the number is hours for this month. We totalled miles for may, km for June and hours for July, although hours are very unpopular due to adding difficulties Wink. Personally I record in miles but converting is ok really!

I use jelly babies vladthedisorganised although not in training which I probably should!

29:26 min parkrun from me to add today, slow and steady but warm and only 36hrs after giving blood so I was happy with that :)

Total 105:31:53

MrsHuxtableReturns · 26/07/2014 22:35

I might as well add my hours on then. It's not all I've run in July because I only got my Garmin a couple of weeks ago but the last 7 runs I did added up to 5:41:37 so that would get the total to 111:13:30.

I have two more runs before I go on holiday for 3 weeks next week. I will keep up the running while a away but it will be hot so not sure how I'll be doing.

BlueChampagne · 26/07/2014 23:02

Go go MrsHuxtable I did a(n) HM at the start of June but have decided a full marathon isn't for me. Respect due!

karatekimmi · 27/07/2014 07:33

Hi all,

I'm on Holiday, and have had a week in north Wales and now we are visiting relatives in Norfolk. Glad to see you've all been having some fabulous runs.

Well I had an eventful 10k last Sunday at Trentham. Some poor runner had a heart attack and I phoned an ambulance. Last I heard he was doing okay, but it kind of ruined my race plan!! It was quite traumatic but I finished the race, and from being last (there was 3 of us who ran it after helping) I managed to overtake 3 people!! The official time was 77m35s but I think I stopped for about 10 mins.

Can I urge you all to put you In Case of Emergency info on with you as the guy had nothing identifiable on him. (I hadn't put mine on the back of my race number) You can get parkrun barcodes with ICE on for about £3.50. nag over

On holiday I managed a small sprint session by the beach with DH while we swapped in and out of sandcastle building for mini kimmi to knock over, and then a run up and down the sand. My legs ached the following day!!

On Friday night after getting to my father in Laws I went for a quick loop of 18mins, and then a speedy for me 29m28s parkrun.

emummy · 27/07/2014 12:27

114:16:23 after an unexpectedly hilly run this morning. It was my first time on that route and I didn't realize it was so steep! Good training for my hill race next month. karatekimmi well done for helping that poor man this morning. Can be quite a shock that kind of thing and you did really well to finish running afterwards. And a good point about the emergency info. Hope he recovers and well done again!

Sirzy · 27/07/2014 14:43

I have lost my running mojo :(

Need to sign up for some races I think to keep me focused

Hello all, just back from Norfolk where I couldn't get online despite there supposedly being wifi Hmm - I guess it's good to escape from the electronic devices now and again though!

I did one six mile run, one shorter intervals session and one 3 mile run while I was there but have no clue whatsoever how much time to add! Say perhaps 2.35?

Sirzy · 27/07/2014 17:51

Signed up for the wigan 10k now. Back out running tomorrow. If I go missing off here for a few days someone give me a kick up the arse coz i really need to get going again before I start putting back on the weight I lost

OP posts:
karatekimmi · 27/07/2014 19:34

Did a very hot 7.3 miles that should have been 10 but I was late out and by 11.30 I'd had enough. I couldn't even bare to do another 35 seconds to make 1 hour 30!! So 1 hour 29 mins and 25 sec to add on!! I have been converted to the benefits of cold baths haven't braved the ice in it yet!!

I did find it very traumatic - the guy looked dead when I got there, looked a lot better after oxygen when I carried on, but my poor DH had a sobbing mess at the finish line!

118:10:48 according to my calculations, including pirates - I'm in Norfolk now, loving the flat running, no where for me to do hill reps Grin

MrsHuxtableReturns · 27/07/2014 20:41

Just came back from a hard 8k so ended up being quite slow. 55:02. I wish it wasn't so hilly where I live. 119:05:50

One more run before the holiday.

originalpiratematerial · 27/07/2014 21:16

Thanks kimmi! There were actually some hilly bits where we were in Norfolk but I didn't run up them Grin.

originalpiratematerial · 27/07/2014 21:19

Hello MrsHuxtable!

cinnamongreyhound · 27/07/2014 21:58

It must have been a shock karatekimmi, glad you had dh there!

Sorry your mojo is gone Sirzy! I find I need focus, I'm running 3 times a week but not doing my long Sunday run as at the moment I'd rather stay in bed! Dh works Sunday am so if I go it has to be pretty early. Got rnr in sept with is 9.24 miles but I've been given 1hr26 for that so need to be reasonably speedy!

5madthings · 27/07/2014 22:28

Evening all and welcome to newbies.

Where in Norfolk have people been visiting?

I am in Norwich :)

Was at Burnham deepdale this weekend with friends, no running for me as it was just me and madthings, I was planning on running on Sat as lots of other adults who offered to watch madthings but dd didn't know them well so not happy being left. As it was ds3 had a fight with a fireguard and I ended up taking him to a&e to get his head glued... Had I been running I wouldn't have been there! And dd had to be left whilst we took ds3 to a&e, she was s bit upset but ds2 looked after her :)

Dp now away and ds1 has gone away for a few days, he is my babysitter for evening runs when dp at work so not sure how I will run until Thu when I take madthings for a visit to my sister's.

I may take them to a local park and I can do some laps round the park whilst they play... Shall see!

karate that must have been very scary,I have an ice number in my phone which I always have in my running belt. It should be in the set up instructions for a phone to out one in!

Oh I did walk three miles to the beach and then swam I the sea and ran a good half a mile pushing Dd in pushchair to catch the bus! If I ignore my alcohol consumption it was s healthy weekend...

cinnamongreyhound · 27/07/2014 22:35

I live about 35 miles from Norwich 5madthings :) did mulbarton parkrun last Saturday and am think of trying Norwich maybe in October.

5madthings · 27/07/2014 22:47

The Norwich Parkrun at Eaton park? That's near me :) have done it a few times but it's tricky with dps shifts.

mulbarton is a short drive from me as well. I am going to do the Marriott way 10k in Oct.

There seems to be quite a lot of Norfolk mnetters!

originalpiratematerial · 27/07/2014 22:54

I was at Kelling Heath Holiday Park which is up the hill from Weybourne. I love it there. We go every year Blush.

HalleLouja · 28/07/2014 08:01

Did about an hour thanks to me not starting runkeeper on time I am not sure quite how long as changed my route around a bit.

119:10:48

We are looking at going to Great Yarmouth next week depending on the weather. Found a nice caravan park. Will definitely be taking my running gear. Especially as I have been reminded its nice and flat!

HalleLouja · 28/07/2014 08:02

Am thinking of doing St Albans Park Run this Saturday as am not working. Does anyone do it?

Blatherskite · 28/07/2014 09:11

I've done St Albans a couple of times but only the alternative route when the main one is flooded. I'm told the usual route round the lake is very pretty though. I really must go back and run it again....

As far as I know, it's fairly flat. There's plenty of parking outside of the Verularium and there is a lovely cafe to have a drink in afterwards.
