For all running chat!

OP posts:
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 15/07/2014 23:17

feet PM me if you are coming to Bedford!

feetheart · 15/07/2014 23:28

Ohone - will do.
There was talk a while ago about a mini parkrun meet up somewhere in Beds/Bucks (though I may be confused with the parkrun thread) DD and DH have now finished Sat Morning Music School until mid-Sept so I can negotiate a few free Saturday mornings and get DH to take DS to gymnastics so I can do parkrun. Anyone fancy naming a few dates/places?

No second go at running club on Thursday as DH wants to go to a ukelele session in a pub somewhere :) Will have to wait until next Monday

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 15/07/2014 23:32

Come over the the parkrun thread!

It is my 50th parkrun on Saturday, lego might come but Blathers can't, and it's the River Festival this weekend so traffic/parking might be a nightmare. We could aim for the weekend after instead if that suited people (though I don't think that is good for lego)?

feetheart · 15/07/2014 23:40

I have lurked on the parkrun thread :)
Did see about it being your 50th one but am at gymnastics then a school reunion on Saturday. Will probably be up for the River Festival on Sunday though - I lived in Bedford for 15 years and worked for Community Arts for the last 5 of those so have fond memories of previous River Festivals.
We haven't sorted anything out for the summer yet so all Saturdays are possible (def won't get away with every Sat though :()

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 16/07/2014 00:03

I can do 25th July, then am away for most of August. Then it's the WOLEF run

It will be our first River Festival, really looking forward to it!

feetheart · 16/07/2014 05:41

Right, 25th July it is then :)

For River Festival just make sure you do the illuminated boats procession and fireworks on Saturday night and the rafts races - preferably the heats as that's when the dodgy rafts 'race', fall apart and people fall in the river :o
Enjoy - it's something Bedford does really well.

feetheart · 16/07/2014 05:46

Realised I have cunningly ignored WOLF run comment :)
I am doing 30-day plank and push-up challenge to try and create some upper body strength. Have got to Day 11 and the rest looks very hard Hmm
I am still refusing to look at videos of previous events though have had a look at a some photos - worried I'll terrify myself!

Morrigu · 16/07/2014 09:19

I've been twice pirate and have another one booked for a couple of weeks. Away on holiday later this week and need to save every penny for that otherwise I'd try and squeeze in one. I do think it's not doing my stretches as I did a set of them last night and noticed an instant difference in my flexibility and comfort. Back onto them three times a day from today and see if it really does make a difference. Glad you're feeling much better however.

Oh five years is nothing zonedout Grin. I'm also a lone parent to a 1yo and 6yo so my training is pretty sporadic. Our summer hols started a few weeks ago and training has been hit and miss. It's made me consider next year if I decide to go for an event it'll be for earlier in the year about May and not doing the bulk of the training during the summer hols.

I did one of those challenges feetheart. Plank and squat but gave up about day 14.

monsterowl · 16/07/2014 09:43

Cinnamongreyhound I went out for a run last night and laced my shoes the way you suggested, and had no problems! So, thanks very much for that.

BTW since first posting on this thread last week I have done 30.5km in 3 hours and 10 minutes, so I will add that to the running total of 69:58:02 to make 73:02:02 (where did the 2 seconds come from?! Grin)

vladthedisorganised · 16/07/2014 09:59

Wow Morrigu that's a fantastic time!

Welcome zonedout - sounds like you're doing great. I'm 37 and only did the C25K at the beginning of this year - it's amazing though, I'm nowhere near as self-conscious as I was when I was doing 8k runs before DD arrived on the scene, which I think is helping (along with my Garmin Forerunner). It's really tough running in this heat though; I think I prefer training in the snow!

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 16/07/2014 10:41

Super-heated long, slow run this morning 1:05 so the new total is 74:07:02 which is nearly four full days we've run now!
I wore my new shorts on my run today and they were great! I was a bit self conscious about having my knees out!! But I think they made all the difference in this hot weather. In fact my new shorts and taking extra care with my hydration today meant I felt really strong all the way round today and I had a great run!

5madthings · 16/07/2014 12:22

Do we have a goal to get to?

Not sure if I will run today as I have just got back from swimming, did 80 lengths in an hour and really enjoyed it. I always do this when I run/swim I love it and then I do it for a few months/a year and then I fall out of the habit for some reason ie having a baby or me or the kids being ill, I just need to stick to it!! I have lost a few pounds, another 7-10 to go and then I get to the final 7lbs that is a bugger to lose... l

5madthings · 16/07/2014 12:23

I lace my trainers the way cinnamon linked to, it was recommended to me by the shop that sold me my trainers, it really makes a difference.

Morrigu · 16/07/2014 19:18

Thanks vlad although that's just the running time. Add another 7 mins onto that for elapsed as I stop my garmin for traffic lights and toilet break :) I agree, I'm a cold weather runner. Give me rain over sun any day.

20 mins recovery run to add 74:27:02. Wasn't going to do it because of my hip but it's the last chance I'll get until next week and took some diclofenac this morning which has worked a treat.

Oh my goodness Cardiff how have you not been in shorts? I would die from the heat otherwise and we are a damn sight cooler here in NI than England. I love my Nike tempo shorts as they're so light and cool. Bought some under amour cycling type ones and while I like the fact they are compression and seem to suck everything in, there are chaffing issues.

Off to search for cinnamon's post as I have developed a black toenail. I feel like a proper runner now Grin

That's a brilliant swim 5madthings.

HalleLouja · 16/07/2014 20:04

Two runs totalling 65 mins 75:32:02.

HalleLouja · 16/07/2014 20:05

Morrigu I too prefer to run in the cold.

cinnamongreyhound · 16/07/2014 20:55

That's great!! Glad to be of help monsterowl!

standingonlego · 16/07/2014 21:25

trying to figure out when I last added time, but 41 mins from me last night. Hot and sticky! 76:14:02 i think (rubbish at maths!)

emummy · 16/07/2014 22:02

29 minutes today, ran up a big hill twice! So that's 76:43:02 I think. Was a bit cooler here, around 15 degrees, much better for running, I don't do heat! Thank goodness I live in Aberdeenshire, heat not a big problem!

Morrigu · 17/07/2014 01:13

Hurrah for the ones who love the cold. I dare say the next runners thread it'll be the runners who love the cold!! We'll fecking ace it Grin

Morrigu · 17/07/2014 01:16

Meant to ask how's tess? You ok love?

cinnamongreyhound · 17/07/2014 07:11

I love the heat but it's not great for running! I'm just back from my early morning run which felt quite cool while we were going but I'm boiling now, stripped off back door open and enjoying 5 mins peace before ds's get up!

45 mins to add, my friend went from work to school disco (PTA) and then to second job so wasnt home until 11.30 and wasn't feeling great! Total 77:28:02

BetsyBell · 17/07/2014 08:17

I've just cancelled a group running session planned for Friday as it's going to be up to 30 degrees C apparently! Early mornings would be nice at the moment but can't fit them in right now. I bet I could in the summer holidays though Grin

feetheart · 17/07/2014 10:30

Early mornings are the best, out at 6am today for a 36 min plod in the sunshine. Was tempted to go over the fields but am trying to build up again slowly so restrained myself! I'm hoping for fields and thunderstorms of Saturday morning :)

78:04:02

BlueChampagne · 17/07/2014 17:01

Can't fit in early mornings either; am trying to decide what to aim for tomorrow (30+ they're saying), if anything! What about everyone else?
