For all running chat!

OP posts:
CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 07/07/2014 20:06

The new total is 32:04:28 with my 5K hill training yesterday.

I hope all of those who are injured are on the mend.

karatekimmi · 07/07/2014 20:57

53 mins to add for me, 32:57:28

Has anyone got any recommendations for an overseas race for a running club trip? We are thinking of trying to organise a piss up race weekend somewhere and I'm looking for inspiration!

cinnamongreyhound · 07/07/2014 21:03

56:57 from me, lots of fun doggy run and now have lots of nettle stings! 33:54:25, I hope!

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 07/07/2014 21:15

30 mins from me, so that brings us to 34:24:25 hopefully.

Tess wishing you strength to get though the next ten days. It'll be over before you know it, I'm sure.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 07/07/2014 21:25

New York Road Runners (my old club) have runs almost every weekend, many in Central Park (or other funky parts of NYC). They do a 5K the day before the NY marathon where you get to cross the marathon finish line if you can't face doing the other 23.1 miles Grin

TessTackle · 07/07/2014 21:49

Attempted to get up early and run this morning but the runs ruined that for me Grin went to pick up DD's first ever uniform instead and have been cleaning with DP.

Thank you for all your kind words, honestly such a help Thanks

originalpiratematerial · 07/07/2014 22:25

vlad I'm not sure about foam rollers - I got mine via my Pilates teacher. I would imagine that Runnersneed sell pretty good ones so you could maybe look online for the make and then see if you can get them cheaper elsewhere?

SeymoreButts · 08/07/2014 04:57

I've just had a week off too so very out of touch. Bloody virus has dragged on for ages. I tried to run this morning and was huffing like mad by 3km.

Does anyone else run with their phone in their hand? It really doesn't bother but I'm thinking I should get an armband before I do a proper race?

I also would probably starve if I gave up sugar, it seems like a lot of people are managing it though! I'm wondering if I should give up caffeine, I can't get going without it and have a noticeably worse run if I go before I've had my morning fix!

OhOne that pre marathon 5k sounds like a brilliant idea!!

Blathers Sad I hope you're feeling better soon.

karate Sydney in September?! Grin It should be getting a bit warmer by then.

Tess it sounds like you are doing well. I went away this weekend and it was my first time away from DS, I felt really anxious, a trip abroad would definitely call for medicinal vodka.

SeymoreButts · 08/07/2014 05:42

Forgot to add my measly 15 minutes! 34:39:25

Chopsypie · 08/07/2014 08:10

Morning ladies. Do you mind if I just jump in briefly for a bit of advice? Joined a local council run running club, for beginners. It's working up from almost nothing to 5k (I think it's based on c25k)
I'm now running 3k in 4 minute on, 1 minute off stretches. But my legs hurt. It's only when running, and it's always in the same place. It's the inside of my legs, the side of my calves.
I've had running gait analysis done, and they said my shoes are fine.

Any ideas?
TIA

feetheart · 08/07/2014 09:04

Chopsypie - no idea what it might but I would recommend a sports physio. Worth their weight in gold. Will analyse what's going on and tell you what you can do about it.

Can I add a leisurely 36 mins in the sunshine this morning. Just a joy to be out and now I feel smug :)

35:15:25

Anyone in Beds/Herts/Cambs doing the Luton Road Race 5k this Sunday or the Doug Anderson 5k in Bedford on Weds 30th July? I can't usually do parkrun (though may get to one or two in August if I can persuade DH to take DS to gymnastics!) but fancy having a go at a few organised 5k.

Blatherskite · 08/07/2014 09:53

Had a sports massage last night and my leg is feeling a bit free-er but still rather sore. He says my IT band is very tight and that I have a few gristly bits in my heel which could be the onset of Plantar Fasciitis! He's given me lots of exercises to do though and has offered to write me a half marathon training plan to get me round Nottingham in sub 2 so he can't think I'm a write off just yet :)

You scared me with your talk of hills HalleLouja so I've been googling. The website promises "a fast flat and flowing course", the Virgin giving site says it is "a proven flat and fast course" and the reviews all say it's flat too. The only mention of a hill I can find says something about a gentle one through the university so I feel a bit better now. I went to Loughborough Uni so I spent quite a bit of time in Nottingham so I know it's not flat but it seems the HM route manages to be.

Blatherskite · 08/07/2014 09:55

Oh, I forgot to add on my 27:27 from Aylesbury parkrun on Saturday before everything got sore.

35:42:52

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 08/07/2014 11:28

Just managed to get 10k in before the dark clouds descended - loos like heavy rain here soon. That takes us to 36:46:52.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 08/07/2014 11:30

looks not loos - although some loos are probably like heavy rain too Grin

TessTackle · 08/07/2014 11:45

No morning run but I have just spent 2 hours moving the living room around, including using power tools! Surely that counts Wink
Who bloody knew so many toys could get under the sofa in the week since I last moved it to Hoover!

cinnamongreyhound · 08/07/2014 13:24

It's not a great idea SeymoreButts, it can cause problems long term. An armband is good, I have mine in my legging pocket.

Sorry no idea Chopsypie, well done for getting started!!!

Sounds very positive Blatherskite!!

I've got a busy running weekend, Friday is a doggy run with the new canicross group that should officially start in September, parkrun Saturday and then a 10k Sunday. Lis two poxy birthday parties amongst that and dh is working most of Saturday :(

TessTackle · 08/07/2014 14:58

What problems can it cause cinnamon? I hold mine in my hand because the shit cheap armband I bought just slides down my arm.

BetsyBell · 08/07/2014 17:10

Seymore, tesstackle I sewed a 'pocket' on the inside of the back of the waistband of my running shorts for my phone - I used a fabric sunglasses pouch you get with cheap sunglasses. Works like a charm Grin

I hate my crappy (cheap) armband holder, feels tight and unpleasant.

Morrigu · 08/07/2014 18:10

Awesome you have your own little mini-coach vlad

I would also advise physio Chopsypie if it is bothering you. Sometimes if you're underdeveloped in certain muscles you use other ones more to compensate iykwim? Could also just be your muscles getting used to it?

1:25:48 to add. 38:12:40. Ended up soaked to the bone in torrential rain. Didn't meant to run so far but I'd forgotten how much I love running in the rain. Hip was sore when out but after doing stretches seems to be ok. I'll see how it fairs tomorrow. Also near choked myself eating a sweet when I started to flag a bit. Looks like I haven't quite mastered this running and eating at the same time milarky.

Don't think parkrun will be on here on Saturday as it's the 12th July in Northern Ireland so most places are closed.

That's so nifty betsy. I wouldn't know one end of a sewing machine from the other Grin

TessTackle · 08/07/2014 18:23

That's so clever betsy I'm going to get MotherTackle to do mine! My running capris are only primark cheapies so if they fall apart as a result I can finally replace them with the nike pro ones I'm lusting after Grin

Morrigu · 08/07/2014 18:26

Excellent Blathers that sounds like good news.

BetsyBell · 08/07/2014 18:41

It's as easy as sewing in school uniform labels - won't be seen and doesn't have to be neat - literally just hand stitch one side of the top of the pouch to the inside of your waistband so that you can access it when you want to get to your phone. You could even just safety pin it into place if a few sticthes seems too much! I position it where a back pocket would be so it's held in place by my arse while running Grin

It came about as I'd bought some shorts online which I thought had a proper zippy pocket in but didn't so I improvised. I've now sewn another one into a pair of pocketless cropped tracky pants too.

Why don't (cheap) women's sports stuff have proper useful pockets anyway...

TessTackle · 08/07/2014 18:47

I've got a pocket at the back of my capris, but I assumed I couldn't fit my phone in there. I'm going to try tomorrow!

Blatherskite · 08/07/2014 18:52

I very rarely take my phone with me but when I need to, I have a belt with a pocket on that just fits my phone perfectly. Wouldn't work for checking times etc but I don't use it for that.
