For all running chat!

Dr Google has helped me identify that what I have is gluteus medius pain on the iliac crest. Have some stretches to try. Can somebody please rule on whether it is permissible to add the whole 90 mins of my run/walk/limp/hobble? Grin

originalpiratematerial · 04/07/2014 18:39

Morrigu it sounds as if your treatment has been really successful - good news! Thanks for the sympathy Smile - it's such a downer when you feel injured isn't it?

cinnamongreyhound · 04/07/2014 22:07

Sorry to hear you're in pain originalpiratematerial! And yes add all your time, you'd have added all the distance.

We'll all be awesome mathmaticians by the end of July.

Morrigu · 04/07/2014 22:13

Hope your stretches work for you pirate, you do have my sympathy indeed and yes being injured sucks. For me personally it's the fear that maybe it's something that is set in stone and just 'wear and tear' as an ex-runner seemed to delight in telling me mine probably was yesterdayHmm Bit relieved it's hopefully something that yes will take a good bit of work and time on my behalf but at least I can try to rectify it iykwim.

originalpiratematerial · 05/07/2014 08:31

Ok so that would be 19:26:06 I think? Thanks cinnamon! I know what you mean, Morrigu. I'm 49 so tbh, some wear & tear is inevitable but at least this doesn't seem like arthritic pain.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/07/2014 08:33

Are you feeling any better today pirate? I am almost your age and also have lots of wear and tear.

originalpiratematerial · 05/07/2014 08:36

It is better but I haven't attempted the stairs yet (am still in bed with DH getting cups of tea!). I am not running though, but gutted about parkrun as it is cooler and damp so would have been really good. Oh well. Where is your wear and tear mainly ohone? My other hip (the one that's not sore ATM) has some degeneration but it doesn't seem to be getting worse in a hurry.

feetheart · 05/07/2014 09:41

Slightly damp and gentle 36+ mins from me this morning (3.6 miles) so total is 20:02:20 I think.

Hope those with ouchy parts feel better soon.
Mums and Yr6 girls camping for me tonight :)

Sirzy · 05/07/2014 09:57

37 mins from me (5k) so total 20:39:20

OP posts:
HalleLouja · 05/07/2014 10:00

37 minutes yesterday so 21:46:20.

Nearly a day's worth of running.

Sirzy · 05/07/2014 10:08

Not bad in 4 and a little bit days!

I wonder if we we can get to 20 days worth by the end of the month then?

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 05/07/2014 11:05

I'm going to add 40 mins as I did 28min parkrun and lots of running about with signs in a blind panic at about 8.35 as rd hadn't turned up yet!!!!! So total of 22:26:20

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/07/2014 11:18

pirate my aches and pains are mostly hips and knees - caused by lots of gymnastics and team sports at school, squash in my 20's, 2 enormous babies in my 30's and running in my 40's. I hurt my achilles last year and it hasn't healed properly, so my calf is sore too...

Waiting for my parkrun time, because I didn't set my garmin as we set off, then forgot to turn it off when I finished. So it thinks I did 6.75k in 1:44, but a large amount of that time was at the cafe afterwards Grin.

Angry cinnamon - we started earlier than usual today (i.e. on time for once), which of course was the day I was slightly later than usual.

PulsesARagingEyesFullofWonder · 05/07/2014 14:35

Well, I have 30min (and 4sec!) to add to the total from my Parkrun this morning.
But I fell over and really hurt myself with about 200m to go.
I hobbled over the finishing line (well... hopped mostly) as I was determined to finish and get a time!! But I have scrapes and cuts and bruises.

And the MOST frustrating thing is that I have pulled a muscle in my thigh Sad
So after just getting back to running, and finally reaching the point where I was really enjoying it, I'm now injured .

It's the muscle that stretches when you sit in a chair (ie with legs bent downwards at the knee) and lean forwards/ down. Anyone know any stetches? I don't even know what it's called so I can google it! It reeeeeeally hurts. I've kept it moving today (cycling/ walking), but I need to just give it a rest from running, I guess. So unbelievably gutted!

But anyway... I guess it takes the total to 22:56:24

5madthings · 05/07/2014 14:53

Ouch! That sounds awful pulses let me know if you need anything. A good time esp with injury!

originalpiratematerial · 05/07/2014 17:21

Huge sympathies Pulses! Wish you better soon. Well done cinnamon - that all sounds a bit nervewracking! Thanks OhOne - I don't have a legacy of sporting injuries (more drinking injuries, tbh) but have had a creaky right hip ever since having children, now it seems the left hip is joining it in creakiness!

postmanpatscat · 05/07/2014 18:37

pulses get well soon. I don't know what it is called either!

58 minutes from me today, I ran to parkrun, tailran again (paused my Garmin while the lady at the back of the pack went for a wee!) and ran home, so a gentle 8km total. At least this week I jogged about 95% of the parkrun, last week I walked one of three laps as I tailrunning with someone who was injured.

SpecialCircumstances · 05/07/2014 19:03

can I add 30 minutes- just back from an evening run! Hot and I was running so slowly I think walking would probably have been quicker but kept going!
Does anyone else get sore knees that seem to loosen up and hurt less after a run? I've been doing some exercises to strengthen the knee muscles too so hoping it's just building the muscles.
23:26:24 (maybe!)

cinnamongreyhound · 05/07/2014 19:23

That's sounds horrible PulsesARagingEyesFullofWonder, I will ask my dh when I'm home which muscle that is and report back!

Don't forget postmanpatscat's 58 min which takes us to 24:24:24, bizarrely!!

vladthedisorganised · 05/07/2014 22:30

Ouch pulses, that sounds really sore! Hope you feel better soon.

Well done to the parkrunners and runners in general!

Today's a bit of a milestone for me as it's the first time I've ever run an HM distance. Had to stop to let a triathlon through and only just jogged on themile uphill back to my house, but managed it in 2hrs 14 anyway, which I'm very happy with. Now if I can get to 2hrs by September I'll be well on track.

Which brings us up to 26:38:24?

PulsesARagingEyesFullofWonder · 05/07/2014 23:03

thanks everyone :)
And well done for all the running that's been going on. It's nice to live vicariously through other peoples' runs... especially if it's looking like you might be "out" for a while...

from lots of mad googling, I think it's just a plain old hamstring injury. But with lots of scrapes and bruises to go with it.
So I guess I have to ben sensible and rest it. Am currently sat on an ice pack Wink

I'll still be doing all the usual cycling and swimming, so hopefully that'll stop me from getting too depressed. And I'll be keeping an eye on this thread. Hope to be back soon with runs to report :)

On the plus side, that new seamless bra thing worked a treat over my normal bra (and under my t-shirt). Hopefully I'll get to wear it again at one point....

vlad what is it you're aiming for? looks like you'll def be doing the HM in under 2hrs by September. Impressed at you doing all that on your own :)

originalpiratematerial · 05/07/2014 23:03

To go with my crocked hip, I also have what appears to be an infected blister on my foot. Have spent the evening treating it. The house reeks of TCP now Grin.

originalpiratematerial · 05/07/2014 23:04

vlad that's awesome!

Morrigu · 05/07/2014 23:55

That's amazing vlad well done!!

Hope those nursing injuries pirate and pulses feel better soon. I strangely love the smell of tcp as it brings me back to my childhood.

I honestly think years spent doing gymnastics bugger your joints somewhat OhOne. Mine certainly have never been the same since.

No running today just the stretches I was given. They take sooo long I don't know how I'm going to keep up with them everyday. Doesn't help that every time I get on my mat dd tortures me to 'get up mummy'. Then she came and sat beside my head while I'm on my back doing hamstring stretches and peed, unknown to me until I realised my hair was wet. Delightful child and the joys of potty training :)

Hoping to get out for a run tomorrow and attempt 10k. Will be the longest I've run in nearly two weeks since the near 11 miles that flared up my hip. Fingers crossed.

Enjoy your camping feetheart, hope you're getting better weather for it than the rain we are having.

Blatherskite · 06/07/2014 09:16

Pulling out of today's half. My hip is even more sore today and the ache has spread to one long band that goes all the way down to my ankle Sad So my hip is sore, my IT band is sore, my calf is sore and my ankle is joining in too. It hurts to climb the stairs so a HM with a 2 mile uphill climb to the finish would be absolute agony - even if those last 2 miles weren't ordinarily agony anyway.

I know it's the right choice but I'm having a little cry about it anyway.
