And I reckon your theory on slowing pace and your increased fitness taking you to the end sounds a perfectly valid one blatherskite, remember how much of running is mental and think positively Grin plus know we'll be cheering you on from behind our computers and phones!!

TessTackle · 03/07/2014 16:08

12.07 is death by running a thing?

Blatherskite · 03/07/2014 17:07

You are right on the times cinnamon Blush I'm really tired today despite sleeping better than usual last night. Trying to decide whether to go on the club run to wake myself up a bit or whether I should be resting now...

I hope you're right about the half too. Although Runners World arrived this morning and reminded me that a 2 hour HM is 'only' 9 minute miles - for 2 hours! Trying to talk myself out of attempting a new HM PB to go with my 10k ones now...

FreeButtonBee · 03/07/2014 17:34

Hello!

Newbie here - I am a sporadic runner but twins last year has meant that I've been out of the game for about 2 years - eek! I promised myself I wouldn't ever be unfit again and TBF running around after twins plus pushing them in their double buggy keeps me pretty active. But now I am back at a desk job and not breastfeeding the weight is creeping on again plus I am not out and about as much as I was.

So, back to running regularly. Did 2.8k on tuesday and 3.5k (including some sprinting intervals) today. My base fitness is not too bad but I badly need to work up some stamina/endurance. Will try to squeeze a quick 3.5/4k in at the weekend if I can. Aim is to gradually build up to a steady 5k (which hopefully won't take too long) and then try to increase speed a bit too.

Desparately need some new trainers too but I am going to force myself to do 4 more runs before allowing myself to buy some. Money is tight and I want to prove to myself that I will actually stick to this.

SpecialCircumstances · 03/07/2014 18:19

Can I add 30 minutes from this morning? 12:00:20 I think!

Feeling it now after a full on day at work as well. Considering a quick shred though, what's happening to me! Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 03/07/2014 18:29

12:37 as TessTackle got us to 12:07 :)

PulsesARagingEyesFullofWonder · 03/07/2014 20:04

Thanks for the welcome, Blatherskite
It's actually really good to see you on here, as I used to chat to you on Twitter up until a couple of years ago or so. I've got a feeling you were just doing the odd Parkrun then, but you seem to be doing loads now :)

Sounds like we're in a similar position FreeButtonBee
I'm back running again after having DC3 9 months ago. I'm fairly fit, as I cycle everywhere (usually pulling a bike trailer!) and I swim. Managed to keep both those going throughout my pregnancy.

But I only get out running once, or sometimes twice, per week.

I'm going to try and do the 10K in October with 5madthings so I'm just building up stamina and speed right now. That race depends on childcare as DH has already entered a marathon that day.... (he's a "runner" I'm most definitely a "plodder")

postmanpatscat · 03/07/2014 20:56

welcome freebuttonbee have a look at sportshoes.com, I got mine on there for £30, reduced from £110!!

feetheart · 04/07/2014 06:38

Need to add a 23.41 from me for a slow plod round the park to ease myself back in after a few weeks break.
Been lurking and sulking as needed to rest achy shins but everything feels fine now and new shoes have arrived so had to test everything out :)

Has anyone tried men's shoe sizes as well as women's? Just wondering how they differ as I'm on the top end of sizing for women (43 for running shoes) and all the online bargains seem to be for 4s and 5s. I'd like at least one other pair but can't justify paying full price.

feetheart · 04/07/2014 06:39

That makes 13:00:41 I think

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 04/07/2014 11:00

New total is 13:55:25 as I have run for 54:44 this morning. By god it's hot out there!!

TessTackle · 04/07/2014 11:09

Can you tell how pleased we are to get past the Galway point of c25k?! Grin

I've got 1:47:12 to add making it 15:42:37 I think Blush

TessTackle · 04/07/2014 11:11

Galway?! halfway bloody iphone!

originalpiratematerial · 04/07/2014 11:32

Well, I was out for an hour and a half. But the reason it was so long was because i've hurt my hip so had to walk most of the way home Sad. It really is painful Sad.

Should I count all that time or shorten it a bit? I did 12 km so if I'd run all of it I guess it would have been about 15 minutes less.

I also have an enormous swelling - like a mega-blister - on the second toe on my right foot - I don't know if I was running funny on that side because of sore hip Confused.

MazzR · 04/07/2014 11:36

Again, slept through my alarm for my 6am run today. Disgusted with myself and won't get another chance now today with the kids being on summer hols or tomorrow. ??

TessTackle · 04/07/2014 11:40

pirate Sad take it easy!!
Have you got time for a hot bath today?

originalpiratematerial · 04/07/2014 11:55

Thanks Tess - I've just had the frozen peas on it for a bit, and soaked my foot in cold water and feel a bit better. I have to hobble off out to a meeting shortly but will have a bath later.

TessTackle · 04/07/2014 12:08

Hope it improves over the course of the day Thanks

PulsesARagingEyesFullofWonder · 04/07/2014 12:52

Just found one of these morera seamless tops in a charity shop.
(very pleased!!) :)

Thought I'd try it, as I'm still breastfeeding, and sports bras haven't felt quite firm/squashing(?) enough the last couple of times I've run.

Does anyone know if I wear it in place of a bra or as well as? It felt okay without a bra, but I've never worn anything like this before.

Hope the hip improves, pirate

feetheart I have men's running shoes, as I like the extra space in the toebox (is that what it's called?). My feet are fairly normally proportioned, maybe a tiny fraction on the wide side.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 04/07/2014 15:29

God, today's run was hard. Not sure if it's because it's hot or I ran in the middle of the day (normally run either around 9am or after work at around 6.30pm) but I just didn't enjoy it at all and spent the entire 40 minutes desperate to get home. Anyway adding my 40 mins takes us to 16:22:37 I think.

I know it's only 4th July but please can I make an early request to go back to measuring distance again next month? Adding time is making my tiny brain hurt Grin.

ThursdayLast · 04/07/2014 15:47

Hello runners!
tess - total babes in that pic, guess the running is paying off!
My nikes are completely knackered. Am on the look out for new trainers and sportsshoes.com seems like a good shout postman! I had a v long browse last night, spending birthday money that hasn't been received yet Blush like a teenager!

Relucto-sniffing-pooing dog and I did a leisurely 10k this am. It was 1.07.21 so I'll just add that up...

17,29.58

TessTackle · 04/07/2014 16:31

Pulses do you feel supported in it? I think that's the main thing. I'm big and bouncy boobed so couldn't go without a sports bra but my friend runs in a normal bra. Think it's person preference.

I agree with Kitty I ^hate* adding time!

Oooh thank you Thursday the babe is my friend, I'm the twat that runs in shades Grin it feels like it's paying of fitness wise but I still have a jelly belly Sad

Morrigu · 04/07/2014 16:43

I wouldn't even have thought of mens shoes, although now you mention it. I'm a 42 in trainers with wide feet myself.

My you look so fresh Tess, not like when I'm running at all.

Oh no I hope the hip feels better soon pirate

5k to add from yesterday so 17:56:06. Was meant to be a tempo run but had to slow it right down because of my own hip pain.

Went to physio today and the theory is it's my c/section 6 years ago that has caused all the imbalances in my pelvis and knees etc. The side I'm having problems with had no give in my hips and pelvis and it's the side the scar puckering is on. She worked on the scar and the puckering has gone Shock how the hell did she do that? I am slightly astounded. Worked on the hip too and I have a million, trillion squats to do to help my weak glutes along. Feeling more upbeat about it all as the pain was making me wonder if running was for me :)

I agree SoftKitty I'm not good at this time adding business.

5madthings · 04/07/2014 16:47

pulses I have one of those, I wore it for our run the other day with a vest over. I wear a sports Bra under, but as you know my boobs are larger and need more support!

Try it on and jump around, jog on the spot and see how supportive it feels. H&m had some reasonably priced sports bras in the other day that looked supportive, they don't go up big enough for me but I think they would for you.

You may want to be careful not to squash your boobs too much as you are still feeding?

I am going out for a run this eve when it's cooler, I think I will start on wks 5 of couch to 10k. And then I can build up my stamina a bit, my legs are coping fine with running but I am getting breathless... Must find my inhaler as well!

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend and enjoy parkruns if you are doing them, no childcare here so I won't be, maybe next week.
