Failing to keep up here again. I have just flicked through a few pages in a desperate attempt to get up to speed, so to speak. Great to see so many PBs - well done all of you!

Those looking for running gear I got a bunch of Sweaty Betty things new with tags or nearly new on ebay. Also love my Skins compression capris/tights - also ebay. I did fork out for a proper new pair of recovery ones and I LOVE them....my legs feel so much better for putting them on.

I haven't been contributing to the mileage (kilometrage?)....have been running, just not being very good at updating you all. But 10km this morning of long-intervals speed work to add to the total.

orangeflutie · 17/06/2014 21:47

Hi I ran 4.61 miles late this afternoon and it was really hot! I wore vest and shorts. The vest is a pink Ronhill one that I bought in the spring and I find it really comfy. It's longish and not too tight but not baggy either. The legs are in shorts as I have a tan for a changeSmile

standingonlego · 17/06/2014 22:46

I am quite short but still have a long "bottom" and high waist- if you know what I mean - and the ron hill stuff fits me really well. I too need to get some shorts! I think kit is quite individual and you just have to try stuff on.

I got some lovely 3/4 capris from decathlon - fine when standing still and look ace, feel great but the moment I move they keep falling down on the waist and it is so annoying!!!!!

Morrigu · 17/06/2014 22:52

Never tried the karrimor bottoms but I have a couple of the tops. They are ok. I find this time of year they make me too warm so I live in my Nike miler vests when out running as I love the fabric of them and the fact they are long in the body, as am I.

cinnamongreyhound · 18/06/2014 07:16

Total 1128 including pootlebugs 10k, orangefluties 4.61 miles and my run this morning. I did less than I planned because dh was far too cuddly this morning and I didn't want to get out of bed!!!!!! I have to be back in time for him to leave for work so it meant a reduction in miles :(. Met my friend with the horny dog today who despite my little one being spayed can still hunt her down! My big one was off when we met him and they ran around playing together so I feel partly to blame this morning but it did slow me down!

originalpiratematerial · 18/06/2014 10:12

1133 with my 5k this morning. I thought I was running quite fast but Garmin says no PB. Nice run though. Wore new Nike vest that was reduced in runnersneed sale - very comfortable.

originalpiratematerial · 18/06/2014 10:16

Morrigu I know exactly what you mean about liking the Nike vests cos they're long in the body. Is it an ulster thing, the breed of the brute as my granny would have said?

fingersonbuzzers · 18/06/2014 11:30

Hi all,

re: vests - these ones I linked to earlier are lovely and long on the body, and also not too clingy on the stomach. I'm a size 10/12 and the M was a lovely loose, but not baggy fit.

fingersonbuzzers · 18/06/2014 11:31

Sorry, meant to add my 7k from this morning to our total 1140 is our new total.

fingersonbuzzers · 18/06/2014 11:34

I'm jealous of those of you who can run in capris in the heat - I tried it this morning and was just too hot.

I have to wear running shorts - I have these but I wear them with a thin pair of cycling shorts underneath as I hate how short they are and how much thigh they reveal. Not least because I usually drop DD off at nursery and then start my run straight from there and I really don't want to be wandering around in those on 2 school runs!

cinnamongreyhound · 18/06/2014 12:32

It's quite cool at 6.15 though fingersonbuzzers :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 18/06/2014 12:44

I haven't run for 10 days (too busy/too tired/too good at making excuses), but am place-marking so this doesn't drop off my TIO. My various injuries/ailments are feeling a lot better, which is just as well as I'm supposed to be doing a lot of running this weekend. I entered a local marathon challenge, which consists of a 5 mile road run on Friday, 8.1 trail on Saturday and HM on Sunday. I will play by ear and see how I feel after each one. The HM is 2 laps, so if I get as far as running on Sunday and it hurts I can drop out after the first lap.

Cinnamon, I have you to thank for this weekend - if I hadn't done the Cambridge boundary HM with you (I mean that in the loosest sense, since you are so much faster than I am), I wouldn't have met the lady who told me about this weekend's fun and games Grin.

cinnamongreyhound · 18/06/2014 13:08

Well in that case you're very welcome Wink

Sirzy · 18/06/2014 13:39

I'm not letting my legs out in public in shorts!

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 18/06/2014 13:57

I wouldn't but I have worn them when it was really hot! It was either wear them or not run so I got a pair. My legs are truly hideous, 5st lost and the skin still left :(

Fishandjam · 18/06/2014 14:39

All this talk of kit has reminded me: the absolute best running T shirt I have came from Aldi, and it cost me £5.99. I keep meaning to go and see if they have any bottoms.

Right ladies, I have a conundrum. If I can run 10km comfortably in a fraction over 70 minutes - meaning a 7 minute kilometre (yes?) - then I should be able to do a 5km in 35 minutes, again comfortably. But my 5km PB is a few seconds under 34 minutes, a time I've achieved twice, and both times it nearly killed me. Why?? What is it that prevents a decent 5k time, even when I'm giving it all I've got? Do I just need a really long warm-up or something? Any ideas gratefully received!

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 18/06/2014 16:11

DS won a "slow and steady wins the race" certificate at his sports day today. Nice to see he takes after his old mum. BlushGrin

KristinaM · 18/06/2014 16:26

Fish -assuming that the 5km and the 10k courses are similar ...

If your 10k time is 1:10:10, that's a pace of 7:01

If your 5k time is 33:55, that's a pace of 6:47

It might not sound much, but 14 seconds per Km is a lot faster.

There is 17 secs between my 5km and 10km paces ,and another 17 sec between 10km and HM pace ( roughly ) . Although I'm working on it Grin

Maybe you are better suited to endurance rather than speed . It's something complicated to do with slow twitch and fast twitch fibres in muscles I think.

originalpiratematerial · 18/06/2014 19:22

fish sounds like you are my running twin. I've been running for about 18 months now and I really haven't got noticeably faster at all. I've only ever once broken the 30 min barrier for 5k and I think that was probably an Endomondo screw-up Blush. Otoh, I can walk very fast, without really trying - i find it easy to keep up a pace of 7+kph whereas I know others who struggle with that, even though they are really fit. I think it's jus the way I'm built, somehow.

ThursdayLast · 18/06/2014 19:55

A hot (and in shorts) 10k to add.
I make that 1150???

A lot of little midges came on the route with me...dead and stuck to my face [bleurgh emoticon]

cinnamongreyhound · 18/06/2014 20:28

I feel your pain ThursdayLast, I ate one this morning!

originalpiratematerial · 18/06/2014 20:41

Yuk at the midges. Some of my routes are right by water so I get mouthfuls of midges at hatching time!

ThursdayLast · 18/06/2014 20:58

Envy cinnamon and pirate
^ boke not envy

Still, at least I remembered to put repellent on so I don't think I got bitten.

standingonlego · 18/06/2014 21:06

As a diversion from the frankly grim topic of consuming midges while running (got one stuck on contact lens once, yuk yuk yuk) I wanted to share this amazing charity & running co-operation success.

www.anthonynolan.org/news/2014/06/12/joeys-mum-blown-away-record-breaking-support

I have mentioned on the parkrunning thread too, but do you think that there is an opportunity to get registration for this linked up to some major running events where the target donor demographic of fit folk 16-30 would be well represented? Thoughts welcomed

Just trying to find out a little more about what needed to set up a registration event.

standingonlego · 18/06/2014 21:07

Apologies for the thread hijack
