Silly phone (or person operating it!)

Just the name of that is enough to put me off cinnamon!

I think I would need to go for a nice easy one. Plus some swimming lessons. I can swim and used to quite well just not at all fast. Will have a look when the triathlon club is on.

cinnamongreyhound · 20/05/2014 09:17

It's one of the few off road ones because she's not good on a road bike and only 5 miles from us. She did it last year and the water was 14C. It is a sprint one though.

Sirzy · 20/05/2014 09:23

Getting more and more frustrated about my time on Sunday so have decided there is only one thing for it - race for life 10k entered for next month to beat my time! Slight issue of being away for a week between now and then so only having 3 weeks training but I will still beat my time

HalleLouja · 20/05/2014 10:11

Sirzy run when you are away?

Sirzy · 20/05/2014 10:14

I'm going on a cruise, taking my stuff in the hope I can get to the gym and do a bit on the treadmill at least

HalleLouja - how about a short tri late this season if you're already exercising a reasonable amount? The season is only just underway so next year is a long way away iyswim. They should be going on until late Sept / early Oct.

I did a Sprint (750/20/5) at the weekend and am doing an Olympic in 4.5 weeks time. I started training from scratch (no exercise at all beyond dashing around after small children) late last year - did a swim course at the end of Oct and started running/cycling in Nov. If you're already exercising you should be fine for something at the end of the summer.

Tess - hope your DD is okay.

MelanieCheeks · 20/05/2014 10:20

I like running while I'm on holiday - can usually get a nice early morning one in before the day gets going.

At the fracture clinic this morning - plaster cast removed, and only need to use crutches if necessary! Hurrah! OK, it'll still be 4 weeks before I can run, but being able to shower, make a cup of tea (can't carry anything using crutches), and get up and down stairs (we live in a 3 storey townhouse) is a HUGE improvement.

fingersonbuzzers · 20/05/2014 10:42

Hi everybody - a nice 5 miles from me this morning (though the sun came out at about 5k and it suddenly got harder!) taking us to 873 miles.

Welcome back halle , my DH is starting to get into triathlons and did a sprint one a fortnight ago, now aiming for an olympic distance one. I must say I'd far rather do a HM than an olympic sprint, but I am a crap swimmer and don't like cycling so that explains it!

pootle how did you get on at your sprint?

Sirzy · 20/05/2014 11:02

That's good Melanie

Good news Melanie, just remember to take it easy for a while

Another 15 miles from me . But very little more until the half on Sunday

How are all those recovering from races last weekend?

fingersonbuzzers · 20/05/2014 11:25

Sorry melanie, missed your post somehow. Glad you got the cast off, must be a relief in this weather.

Chopstheduck · 20/05/2014 11:32

Contortionist, I started out with mostly trail running - I love it. It's better in wetter weather when the ground is soft rather than the middle of summer when it dries out and is hard and uneven and prone to twisting ankles. I've kind of got used to the faster pace of road running now though and find it harder to go back to trail. TBH, looking at a map would be the best thing! I used google earth to find routes, and also googled other peoples running routes. Google pedometer is also handy for planning routes on distance.

Well done Sirzy and Melliebobs, no way I could have done it in that heat - you both did brilliantly.

I've turned off the progress updates on my runkeeper app - accidentally at first, and immediately shaved 2.5 minutes or so off my PB for 10k! I've found I run better without them. I'm more relaxed and happy to keep plodding along, whereas with them I was constantly thinking about pace and trying to push too hard and struggling and actually running slower!

Ran 7.3 miles in some new trainers today, as old ones have gone so flat. I have HUGE feet, and these were actually dh's, which he bought, wore out for one run before remembering he prefers the sofa. They are nike lunaglide. They felt lovely, like running on air, after my old nike freeruns which have been run to death. I have a blister on the arch of my foot though now :( The insole seems to be rubbing, and they aren't as airy as my freeruns and my feet got hot.

Total now 884.5 (did 4.2 on sunday also first thing in that heat before turning home, which I didn't post)

vladthedisorganised · 20/05/2014 13:38

Well done to all the runners - sirzy and mellibobs, I have no idea how you did it in that heat!

Checking in for a self-pitying sob - please ignore! No running at the weekend as I was helping SIL with nephew's birthday party on the Saturday and H was away all Sunday, so nobody to look after DD - did a fair amount of walking though.
Sallied forth on my usual lunchtime run today - all the more desperate because I hadn't had my usual weekend long run - and hit a wall immediately. It's very humid here which sets off my asthma on bad days - haven't had an attack in years but this lunchtime brought it back. Of course I had neglected to bring any water or my inhaler with me, so had to walk back, still coughing, with my tail between my legs Sad

If it rains tonight and I can stop coughing I'll go out again - provided H isn't working late Sad

HalleLouja · 20/05/2014 13:48

Well I have sent an email to the triathlon club so we will see what they say. I haven't swam properly for soooo long. But at least my running is ok........

HalleLouja · 20/05/2014 13:50

Well done Melanie you must be over the moon.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 20/05/2014 14:05

Did 4 miles constant running today, so pretty pleased. I had to really force myself to go out though - I cleaned the bathroom and kitchen, put a load of washing on and even popped into town to sort out some paperwork but it was only 11am when I'd done all that, so I figured I might as well go for a quick run before lunch. I knew I'd regret it if I didn't go. Thankfully it stayed dry.

So I think our total is now 888.5.

pootlebug · 20/05/2014 14:08

Forgot to add well done Sirzy and Melliebobs

Great news Melanie. Fingers crossed you'll be back to running really soon.

Fingersonbuzzers - sprint tri was great - I loved it! I really need to work on being better on the bike, but was pretty pleased with my run time (23.40 for 5km) although it felt tough going up the hilly bits late Sunday morning in the heat.

HalleLouja - yay for emailing the tri club! hopefully you can find a good event for later in the season.

cinnamongreyhound · 20/05/2014 20:16

Another 4 miles from me so 892.5. Did a freedom parkrun with a friend of a friend and the friend wasn't able to make it. Quite slow for me but a total of 8 miles today's including the 4 I added this morning so not bad even if they weren't at my usual pace :)

fingersonbuzzers · 20/05/2014 20:16

Pootle - that's a bloody amazing 5k time full stop, let alone at the end of a triathlon in the heat we had. I'm seriously impressed by you!

Softkitty, well done on getting out there. I find running tends to take precedence over cleaning in this house so you did well to do both Grin

vlad sorry to hear you had a tricky one this morning. I'm asthmatic and was suffering at the beginning of my run this morning, too (in fact was puffing on my inhaler whilst running which I know I shouldn't do!) so I totally understand how you feel. You did the right thing by stopping, though I know it's frustrating it totally isn't worth bringing on an asthma attack over.

Chops - glad you had a good run, would you recommend those shoes? Am in the market for new trainers (I'm currently running in £30 new balance Blush but will probs go to sweatshop for the gait analysis thing this time..

fingersonbuzzers · 20/05/2014 20:17

x-post cinnamon you ran twice in one day?! That's dedication, I would never manage that!

cinnamongreyhound · 20/05/2014 20:18

Yes, neither quite the run I planned but both helped someone else so all good :)

TessTackle · 20/05/2014 20:23

Evening! Home with DD, desparate to get out for a run. Bloody hospital gave me cabin fever.
Only going to be able to get out to run on Friday, will try and read back now.

Chopstheduck · 20/05/2014 20:36

Fingersonbuzzers, I prefer the free runs I had before, never had any issues with them. Lunar glide are nice for a bit more support and cushioning though, and they were comfortable except for the small blister where the insole rubbed.

Fishandjam · 20/05/2014 20:48
