132.7 with my 5 'easy' - first run of New Plan. But it wasn't easy, I struggled and felt the full effects of the last few nights of not sleeping and the return of my old smoking habit Blush and possibly the unplanned extra miles on Saturday, on roads.

hope your back improves soon Thursday Flowers

KristinaM · 02/06/2014 14:14

Mitch -don't push yourself, you don't want to undo all the good work you've put in so far on your recovery . If it's too hard you need to slow cut down a bit -speed or distance

But throw the fags away, you daft moo . Or we will all nag you < looks scary > . You will not enjoy that sneaky wee fag with your cup of coffee if you know you will have to fess up about it on here later .

briteside · 02/06/2014 14:17

Hello all! Some great runs happened over the weekend: well done mellie on a great 10km, despite not feeling well. And well done to Shona's DS on the Comrades. I knew a few people running it this year, including one crazy sod who got a Silver Medal. It is a tough race, including the 'big Five' hills! The Comrades is in my Home Country but I am in awe of anyone who attempts it!

Thursday I have the same issue with a sore lower back (Caused by lugging a two-ton toddler around, NOT from too much housework Grin ) I have been spending some time focused on core exercises, which has helped. I am also in love with my new Foam Roller, which helps to massage & stretch some of the cricks out!

No runs from me since Saturday so nothing to add to the total, but I am hoping to get a quick run in tonight!

KristinaM · 02/06/2014 14:19

Forgot to add my 8.5 km hill repeats ( ouch) so 141.2

I've decided to do a 10k race in 10 days so I think I need to do some speedwork. Sadly I can't find a training programme and I'm lost without a wee chart telling me what to do

Any suggestions ?

cinnamongreyhound · 02/06/2014 14:21

Well done melliebobs!

I have no idea on stress fractures I'm afraid youbemummylion but I'd probably get it checked out.

Sounds very positive Blatherskite!!

Hi Shosha1 your ds did amazingly well!!!

Google Mckenzie exercises ThursdayLast, my dh swears by them! Kind of look like a push up but with toe tummy and legs still on the floor.

You were all busy yesterday! We spent the day driving to and looking at cars. Left home at 9.30 and got back at 4.30 :( but we have got a new 7-seater car which will make life easier. I'm off to see paolo nutini tonight which is my mothers say present so my first run of June will be tomorrow am.

Ps if anyone knows someone in need of a lovely Picasso left me know Wink

I hear ya Kristina. My consultant reckoned most people over age 40 will have some lumbar spine degeneration, mine's just complicated by having no disc between 2 of the vertebrae. Running can't make it worse, so he said, and I actually find that if I don't exercise it really stiffens and hurts. I know when the weather is on the turn though!

2.5k to add to the total - 143.7.

KristinaM · 02/06/2014 15:47

How could you lose a disc, fish? That's just bloody careless

Chopstheduck · 02/06/2014 15:51

I am full of cold, no voice, coughing up phlegm, temperature. I did manage a slow 5k with dt1 yesterday, but def on rest for a few days now :(

148.7

Shosha1 · 02/06/2014 17:11

Just a quick update.

DS was in bed by 7.30 :).
Phoned me this morning and very very stiff ( had trouble walking when got back to hotel last night)

But had eaten breakfast ( couldn't face good last night)

And his lovely MIL had organised a sports massage for him this morning.

He is now looking forward to a beer as hasn't had one in a year :)

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/06/2014 17:56

Hats off to your son Shosha - I was going to ask how much training he'd had to do.

Hope you feel better soon Chops

Enjoy Paolo Cinnamon

Well done on your hills Kristina. No idea about plans, but I'd imagine a combination of speed and endurance would do no harm? I'd probably think about doing the last few weeks of a C210K/Bridge to 10K plan.

All this talk of plans is making me want one. I am feeling a bit fed up with myself for losing all my marathon fitness from 6 months ago and regaining my spare tyre. I think I need something to train for (but not another marathon) - I have winged the last 3 HMs I've done relying on residual fitness, but there's not a lot of it left now Smile.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/06/2014 17:58

And forgot to say - 6K today, so 154.7

(Am liking counting in K, they mount up so much faster Smile)

HalleLouja · 02/06/2014 17:59

9.7 km yesterday. Brings the total to 158 km. I did on Friday which I didn't include in May.... Oh well.

Whipsnade 10km next Sunday. At least I have now pretty much run the distance so can relax a bit. Am going to HIIT tonight but then taking it easy with maybe a 20 minute run tomorrow. Not sure I will be able to fit another in before then.

Wow Shosha you must be really proud.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 02/06/2014 18:08

x-post with Halle, so are we 148.7 + 6 + 9.7 = 164.4?

ThursdayLast · 02/06/2014 18:08

Thank you mitchy vlad briteside cinnamon.
My pilates class isn't on in school holidays, so I wouldn't be surprised if missing it last week has something to do with the tightness I'm suffering now. And it is definitely focused on the hip side I carry DS. Pesky DS.

Anyways, been for a couple of dog walks, and will add deep heat patches to my shopping list.

Good going on the kms everyone, doesn't it look more impressive than miles?!

youbethemummylion · 02/06/2014 19:29

Ugh stress fracture in my foot no running for me for a while. I am eating ice cream and drinking wine I predict I will be the size of a baby elephant by the time im back on my feet :-(

PolkaSpottyDotty · 02/06/2014 20:03

Lots to catch up on, will read properly after I've told you all...

5k. 28 minutes.

Hell yeah Grin

karatekimmi · 02/06/2014 20:20

just did 6.7km with my running club and it was lovely, until right at the end when the heavens opened!

Including Polka's 5 km then its 176.1

originalpiratematerial · 02/06/2014 20:20

Wow Polka! Fab!

karatekimmi · 02/06/2014 20:22

hmmm k or km??

I say "k" however I cant seem to write it, it must be km when written I might be overthinking this

originalpiratematerial · 02/06/2014 20:22

179.1 as I did 3 km on the treadmill at the gym. Hate it but made myself run at 10 kph as I must - MUST - do something to try improve my speed. I can run at faster than 10 kph outdoors but not consistently, iyswim.

Blatherskite · 02/06/2014 20:57

I went to the effort of rounding my run up to an even 4 miles forgetting we were doing km now!

so I have 6.4km to add to our total giving us 185.5

Day 2 of Juneathon done :)

originalpiratematerial · 02/06/2014 21:13

mummylion that's a bugger about the stress fracture Sad.

Runkittyrun · 02/06/2014 21:30

13km done so new total is 198.6 km. Quite pleased as my target for easy runs is pace ~6:23-6:38 min/km with a working heart rate of under 65%. Managed an average pace of 6:35m/km and average working heart rate of 60% (including hills). Think tomorrow I will probably do 5km rather than 8km with the race on Thursday.

mummylion sorry to hear about your stress fracture. Are there any strengthening exercises you can do in the meantime?

polka Well done on the fab 5km time.

cinnamongreyhound · 03/06/2014 07:16
