DDIL is SA and when they were there in 2012 it came up in conversation.

He had never run anything at that point, but decided he was going to do the 2014, and he has :)

postmanpatscat · 01/06/2014 16:28

Welcome neo

KristinaM · 01/06/2014 16:32

So he wasn't a runner 2 years ago and now he's just done Comrades ? Well done to him

emummy · 01/06/2014 16:33

A lovely warm 7.5k run in the sun this morning, so that's 95.5. I hope it doesn't get too much warmer or I'll need to get up at 5am to run!
Sosha that's an amazing run, I hope he can still walk!

KristinaM · 01/06/2014 16:35

What??? A heatwave in furry boots city, Emummy?

fingersonbuzzers · 01/06/2014 17:47

OMG shosha, well done to your DS!

Well done too Mellie for getting out when you're unwell (crazy also!) and that's a pretty bloody good time considering you were ill and had to walk a bit.

Shosha1 · 01/06/2014 17:52

Yep from 16 till 33 played rugby as wing half. :)

emummy · 01/06/2014 18:08

kristina it was warm for us - at least 16 degrees at 8:30! Was probably colder in the big smoke by the sea though - being tucked away inland we get colder in the winter but warmer in the summer. Running along the river I was very tempted to go for a paddle and cool my hot feet!

Shosha1 · 01/06/2014 18:14

It's was 30 at the end of the Comrades when they finished in Durban :)

Morrigu · 01/06/2014 18:34

Well done mellie. I think that's a brilliant time without walking!

I'm sure you're one proud mum today Shosha. Fantastic. What age is your ds? Just curious :)

6k from this morning to add 101.5. I'm liking the km as it makes me feel like I've done more!

Shosha1 · 01/06/2014 18:41

35 morrigu :) and very proud

Morrigu · 01/06/2014 18:48

Ohh same age as me. Fair play indeed!

karatekimmi · 01/06/2014 19:19

Hi all, I was on one of the previous threads and then just kept forgetting to post.

The running has been going well, and I am glad that I have found you all again!

I did 7.7 km this morning before getting a blister so got DH to pick me up. They had set up the race for life course so I followed that for 5k which made a change from my normal route!!

109.2 km so far.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 01/06/2014 20:02

Waves to kimmi we have missed you and minikimmi on the parkrun thread!

10.5 km here, taking us to 119.7 Furthest I've been in almost a month Smile

Runkittyrun · 01/06/2014 21:36

fishandjam Cambs Smile lots of flat roads, and wind coming from every direction!

Well done mellie and well done to Shosha1's ds - wow! Perhaps we should include his kms? Wink.
No running today - did circuit training (NMTZ Jillian Michaels), plank rows never get any easier.

Wondering what to do this week, as there's a local club league 5km race coming up on Thursday, so may not do as many miles tomorrow as planned to give the legs a bit of recovery. This race last year was really tough, on the hottest day of the year at ~29C! Didn't enjoy that heat.

Fishandjam · 01/06/2014 22:21

Know it well kitty - I'm Fen Edge near Huntingdon Grin

Well done to all runners, especially shosha's DS!

I've finally bitten the bullet and registered for a local 10k. I'll be last but hell, someone has to be, and it may as well be me. Need to take care of me shins though!

vladthedisorganised · 02/06/2014 09:45

Well done to all the weekend runners - especially Shosha's DS, that's amazing! I didn't get a chance to log on this weekend but I did manage 8.4 miles on Saturday - the furthest I've gone so far. Still grinning when I look at the map.

Should I add this to the May or the June total - and are we measuring in km now?

Well done for registering, Fishandjam - I think you'll surprise yourself Grin

Did anyone do the Colour Run in London yesterday? It looks fun..

ThursdayLast · 02/06/2014 10:10

Hello active friends, I'm seeking advice.
Does anyone else ever have problems with their lower back?
Mine is killing me today and yesterday-but with a young toddler there's not much hope of resting it.
Just wondering if anyone has any advice or experience?

KristinaM · 02/06/2014 10:54

Ice it. Ibuprofen .

Get someone else to look after toddler and go to bed

Ok only kidding about the last one

TessTackle · 02/06/2014 11:06

Morning, 4 miles from me today, legs were exhausted before I started from rounders on the beach over the weekend.

Going to start trying to run at the weekend as the summer holidays are coming up and I won't be able to run 3 morning a week :(

Fishandjam · 02/06/2014 11:19

I do Thursday. It's a fucker and no mistake. Do you know what's caused it? Mine is a degenerative condition which responds well to Voltarol and heat, but if yours is a more acute injury then ice would work better. Try to avoid lifting if at all possible (difficult, I know!) Try to keep mobile as well; lying down often makes things worse.

Do you have any sciatica, pins and needles etc?

If it persists, get checked out by your GP or a physio.

KristinaM · 02/06/2014 11:22

LOL at fish. Mine is caused by old age, having too many pregnancies in my 40s , carrying children and doing housework

Exercise makes it better

That's my story and I'm sticking to it

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 02/06/2014 11:24

Haven't run in a week due to half term but went out this morning and did 5 miles, which I know is a tiny run for some of you but an achievement for me Smile. Are we measuring in km now? In which case, I think my 8k will take us to 127.7km so far but hopefully someone will correct me if that's wrong.

ThursdayLast · 02/06/2014 11:36

Kristina if I thought having a bad back would get someone else to look after the toddler I'd be shuffling around wailing and clutching at it 24hrs a day...they don't seem keen Confused

I don't think it's an injury in particular, Fish, just general life things toddler and running inclusive. Hmmmm. Ibuprofen is a good shout, I'll probably just go for a walk later to keep it warm.

It's not debilitating, just so annoying Angry especially as I wanna add some ks to our total!

Thanks for the advice and sympathy

vladthedisorganised · 02/06/2014 11:55

Not a tiny run at all Softkitty!

So with mine we're up to 141k I think?

Thursday, I used to have problems with my lower back too - Deep Heat patches provide some relief. I have started doing (slow and controlled) back raises - only to be done when your back isn't hurting though - which seems to strengthen the back muscles.
