Kristina - I doubt you are as old as me Wink
I must admit that I do like the flexibility of running how I feel but I have been getting a lot of PBs and would like to see how far I can push it I have set myself the goal of 5k in 30mins, 10k in 60mins and 60% age-grading for this year. I'm not far off already and would like to see what would happen if I was more disciplined and worked a bit harder. I am really inspired by your HM time, it shows what hard work can achieve.

Lovely picture Cinnamon.

vladthedisorganised · 27/05/2014 13:59

Lovely picture Cinnamon!

Feeling fantastic after a drizzly 4.2 miles this lunchtime - not absolutely sure of the time but I think I managed it in 29 minutes, which is a PB for me. Never would have imagined I'd get here this time last year! Hoping I can get out most days this week and have a nice long run on Saturday. Now, if the HM at the end of September could have some similarly drizzly weather it'd be great (though not sure it'd be as nice for DH to watch..)

I think that takes us to 1180.3

My cousin ran the Edinburgh HM in just over 2 hours at the weekend. Very proud of him and it's giving me something to aim for - not sure I'll be that fast but it helps me keep going!

cinnamongreyhound · 27/05/2014 14:11

I think my fastest 4miles is 36ish mins and my fastest hm is 2:01 vladthedisorganised, I reckon you'll be fine!!

KristinaM · 27/05/2014 15:59

Feet -I have to confess to being in my 50s Blush

Blatherskite · 27/05/2014 16:27

No running for me today. It's tipping it down again, DH is going to be at work until late and it's my birthday so I'm way too full of food to go out - calories don't count on birthday's right?

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 27/05/2014 17:24

Happy Birthday blathers!! ThanksWine
Everything you eat on your birthday is calorie free. True fact.

So Whipsnade runners so far are:
Cardiff
Blathers
Feetheart

Am up for meeting after the race (if I survive it!) by the wolefs.

I will try to add some miles to the total before the end of the day, as long as DP gets home in time.

HalleLouja · 27/05/2014 18:45

I am a Whipsnade runner!

3.2 miles today 1183.5 miles in total now.

Happy birthday Blathers. Calories definitely don't count on your birthday or any of your children's birthday's.

HalleLouja · 27/05/2014 18:45

So Whipsnade runners so far are:
Cardiff
Blathers
Feetheart
Hallelouja

KristinaM · 27/05/2014 18:56

3.3 miles easy from me so 1186.6 I think

PolkaSpottyDotty · 27/05/2014 19:51

Happy birthday Blathers Wine

A quick 2.1 miles from me, very pleased with myself coming in at 19mins 22secs - mile one average pace just under 8min/mile :)

1188.7

PolkaSpottyDotty · 27/05/2014 19:55

I forgot to say to Kristina thanks for the advice! Been chatting to an experienced marathon runner today, he told me to aim for one speed/interval session, one medium run (5k) and a distance run at the weekend.

I'm on my phone so it's difficult to scroll back to see your post again, but I really appreciated it Thanks

cinnamongreyhound · 27/05/2014 20:17

Happy birthday Blatherskite, hope you enjoyed the non-calories :)

So.....I haven't persuaded dh about the whipsnade stampede but haven't tried that hard. I went to enter today but couldn't see anything about the 25% off tickets to get with entry? Do I just buy normal tickets and they go in? Can you just watch the race and go home or would they need a ticket to the zoo to watch? Is still a lot of money for us but I'm considering it, website said there are 186 places left.

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 27/05/2014 20:39

Cinnamon, I think I paid 30 for my race entry and that includes admission to the zoo for the day. Then when I got my registration confirmation I also got a code for my family to get discounted tickets. I didn't get 25%off though! only 10%
Spectators have to pay for a zoo ticket tocome in and watch you race.
It is a lot of money. So we will definitely be making a day of it, even if they have to push me round the zoo in a wheelbarrow afterwards!

CQ · 27/05/2014 21:00

Evening all, just checking in with my very slow 2.5 miles this morning to test out my dodgy knee. Was not too bad but certainly not 100% so I'm sadly going to duck out of my 10k on Sunday Sad. In other news, the stone in weight that I have lost since January is definitely making my legs want to go faster. If only the joints could cooperate!

Old age has made me wiser and I know that a small niggle could be a big problem after 10k, and I don't want to have to lay off for weeks and weeks.

I think I'll take the dogs out tomorrow and walk 10k and see how that feels.

So the total is up to 1191.2 I think.

Well done on the HM Kristina - I'd love to run in Edinburgh - I was a student there but not a runner at the time. Spent too much time in the pub library Grin

And happy birthday Blathers - cake today, run tomorrow!

feetheart · 27/05/2014 21:22

Kristina - me too so I am even more impressed with your HM time.

cinnamon - we are members of the zoo so have some 50% off vouchers if that would help persuade you :)
I may have promised some to another MNetter on one of the earlier threads but we have 4.
If I promised you vouchers please let me know - was it Eaurouge?

Blathers - Happy Birthday. Hope you have had a lovely day. Deffo no calories on your birthday (or, as HalleLouja says, your DC's birthdays, especially any cake, cake mixture, icing or leftovers you may come across :))

originalpiratematerial · 27/05/2014 21:35

Kristina was it you who linked to the Magic Step HM plan? Is that the one you used?

pootlebug · 27/05/2014 21:45

Quickly skimming through the thread after a long weekend camping with no internet reception (and no training - arrrghh!).

Very well done Kristina, that's a brilliant HM time!

Standingonlego · 27/05/2014 22:02

Hello - another Whipsnade runner! Waving frantically to you all - DH is running too and the 2DS are doing the 2k

Standingonlego · 27/05/2014 22:06

This has reminded me - Got to get tickets for grandparents to cheer us on (and look after kids while we do the 10k) so any cunning discount ideas appreciated.

Anyone else got the minis running?

BetsyBell · 27/05/2014 22:55

Lovely ponies and heathland cinnamon! Your running routes are far more scenic than mine.

We are very much in the land of rain rain rain here, which coupled with half term has led to no running since Sunday. I had grand plans of leaping out of bed first thing with the sunshine and getting a good 40 mins in before DH leaves for work...

Friday looks to be dry, maybe I'll manage something then.

postmanpatscat · 27/05/2014 23:00

So bored with this rain! No run for me today.

Happy birthday blathers!

Mitchy1nge · 28/05/2014 08:50

what do you lot do on non-running days? if you are feeling lots of miles tingling in your legs but are sticking to The Plan to avoid re-injuring self?

cinnamongreyhound · 28/05/2014 08:55

I usually only walk on non-running days, if I felt the urge to run id go but you're being very sensible! How about a swim or cycle?

cinnamongreyhound · 28/05/2014 08:56

That's really kind feetheart, I didn't talk to dh last night about it as we had a huge row over something so stupid, I slept on the sofa :( will try tonight!

vladthedisorganised · 28/05/2014 09:16

Happy belated birthday Blathers!

Hope today's a bit better for you cinnamon.

Very impressed with the early morning runners among you - it's something I've never really mastered (I have problems getting out of bed at a normal time, and to get a run in before DD and DH get up would mean a 5am start - ouch).

I do circuit training on one of my non-running days and I find it really helps with leg strength. On days at home with DD I don't really manage to do anything more than walk a lot though.
