Sorry, I can't get over tess's post.
Do people seriously behave like this?? I'm astounded

Mitchy1nge · 12/05/2014 11:43

Flowers tess, desperately hope they were laughing at something else and it just FELT directed at you as is awful to think people can be so ridiculous and petty as to mock someone out for a run - but people can be really fucking pathetic sometimes can't they, hope you can shrug it off, it says everything about how mean spirited they are and nothing about YOU

you could try the hat and sunglasses method of avoiding eye contact with other people? my self conscious friend swears by this, and a headphone in one ear in a sort of la-la-la I am oblivious to you way

hope ankle and calf feel better soon

managed to hurt myself scrambling about in the mud on Saturday but at some point today will try my 30 minute run/walk thing, it is taking such a long time I feel a bit demoralised but if I keep at it slowly it could all look very different by autumn, just want to be back to a comfortable, steady half marathon by then

cinnamongreyhound · 12/05/2014 11:58

How about this one?

Fishandjam · 12/05/2014 12:05

Tess, there's a lot of truth in the (slightly adjusted) adage: in a month you will be fitter, leaner, faster. They will still be arseholes.

vladthedisorganised · 12/05/2014 12:06

What bitches, Tess! There are some right idiots out there, but don't let it put you off (easier said than done). Real runners tend to be very supportive and encouraging of anyone who's giving it a go.

I clearly remember one group of yummy mummy types shoving me into a wall and saying snottily "Sorry, but you're just too slow, we're proper runners and can't afford to have you holding us up."

I couldn't resist waving cheerily to them with a 'do enjoy the rest of your proper run' as I overtook them twenty minutes later - they were probably scared their mascara would smear or something. Slow and steady wins the race... Grin

TessTackle · 12/05/2014 12:06

Thank you all, you've made me feel much better.
I know I'm better than them and they're pathetic, it just really hurt at the time. I'm not some 6 tonne whale! I'm barely a 14 ffs. Horrible bastards they are.

Really considering a cap to run in, I only have oversized sunglasses and I wouldn't blame people laughing at me running in those! Smile

Mitchy1nge · 12/05/2014 12:16

it shouldn't make any difference to any normal person whether you were a 6 tonne 'whale' Hmm or 6 stone, you're entitled to go out for a run without fear of ridicule

msmoss · 12/05/2014 12:18

Hello, does anyone mind if I stop by, keep seeing the running thread in active convos and have finally decided I'm running enough again to warrant talking about it!

Currently getting out a couple of times a week but this will change in June when I start my GNR training plan in June. This will be my 3rd go and would love to beat my time from last year. I will read through the thread in more detail but is anyone else doing it?

tesstackle that's really awful, just try and remember that their actions and behaviour aren't about you at all, it's about them just not being very nice people, they don't know you and if you hadn't been there they would have been laughing at someone else.

Mitchy1nge · 12/05/2014 12:20

vlad Shock

I was on an endurance ride once when some snooty people said something sneering about how their super fit horses couldn't physically canter that slowly, I passed them when they started flagging only a couple of miles later and they came trailing to the finish about an hour after me Grin it was very satisfying

TessTackle · 12/05/2014 12:20

Welcome msmoss

Mitchy you're completely right. I'm trying to rationalise it or come up with excuses for them to have been laughing but in fact they're just arseholes.

Blatherskite · 12/05/2014 12:20

Oh Tess Sad

Ignore them. It's a classic bully tactic to take the mickey out of something that scares them. They probably couldn't manage to run for a bus never mind do C25K. You keep going, you'll be fitter and happier than them in the long run.

TessTackle · 12/05/2014 12:21

Vlad I can't believe that!!! That's bloody awful.

msmoss · 12/05/2014 12:21

tesstackle a friend of mine once had some girls heckling at her for being too skinny to run, it would seem that some people just like shouting insults in people in the street.

TessTackle · 12/05/2014 12:24

Ridiculous msmoss!

cinnamongreyhound · 12/05/2014 12:44

That's horrible vladthedisorganised! I've only ever had a couple of comments at races/parkruns from men. My friend had a totally arsehole yesterday at the race we did yesterday, I think a lot of that comes from men not able to cope with a woman possibly beating them, she did the 10miles in 1hr14!!!

Welcome msmoss! You can post as infrequently as you like and still join us :)

Oh my goodness it's just started absolutely bucketing it down here!! Glad I'm in until the school run!

EauRouge · 12/05/2014 12:50

Tess, sorry you encountered such horrible bastards. I think some people are jealous of runners of all shapes and sizes because, you know what, running is bloody hard. It takes a lot of effort and perseverance and some people just don't have the guts to start from scratch and work up that slowly. So fuck them. Push them under a bus next time Grin

Mitchy1nge · 12/05/2014 12:54

God. I have NO impulse control, I probably would. If we had buses!

AmberNectarine · 12/05/2014 12:56

Sorry to hear about your encounter with arseclowns tess, don't let it get you down, just regard them as what they are, a lesser life form.

I got asked if I'd like to participate in a threesome with two teenage boys on a recent run. I wasn't sure whether to be flattered or feel sorry for the poor lads, they're obviously pretty desperate - I'm not a pretty sight in Lycra.

TessTackle · 12/05/2014 14:20

Be flattered amber

Mitchy I have no control either! I'd have to push them Grin

Eau I'm not as fussed now, the more I think about it the more I pity them. I burnt over 400 calories, about as much as was in the muffin they were eating!

MelanieCheeks · 12/05/2014 19:06

I'm sitting here with my foot in plaster and a pair of crutches- dh insisted on x raying my ankle, and it has a crack in it. So no running, no dancing, no driving, no dog walking. I'm going to go insane, aren't i?

postmanpatscat · 12/05/2014 19:11

Oh no melanie! Get well soon Thanks

Sirzy · 12/05/2014 19:12

Oh no Melanie.

Oh Melanie Sad wishing you a speedy recovery!

RhondaJean · 12/05/2014 19:29

We still counting miles?

I am at last able to contribute a whole 3.1 miles

It's been raining the last few times I've planned to go out and I'm not yet confident enough to run in the rain. I was going to the gym tonight but the sun was shining so I headed home, got changed and went out instead.

I need to seriously warm up better though, my left calf is like a block of wood and was so sore til about 2 miles in, and the insole isn't really helping the blistering on my right instep, so I was a sorry sight. I think someone may have shouted at me out of a car but I had my earphones in and was too busy dying to care Grin

I also think I might be lacing my running shoes too tightly? Any advice?

Commiserations to all those with injuries and for those being hassled, don't let the bastards grind you down...

Sirzy · 12/05/2014 19:32

542.48 was the last total so with yours we are now up to 545.18

Glad you have finally managed get out Rhonda
