Back from my windy run (that's the weather I'm talking about, not my bottom), 10km in 57:10 so another 6.2 miles to add to our total.

515.1 miles completed now.

I have a Garmin Forerunner 10, would definitely recommend it.

youbethemummylion · 11/05/2014 19:56

Hallelouja ill PM you.

Theonlyoneiknow · 11/05/2014 20:04

5 miles today in a downpour, had to cut run short. Normally I don't mind a bit of rain but this was ridiculous. Typically an hour later sunshine.

Now 520.1

Jeregrette · 11/05/2014 20:17

Haven't contributed to this thread for a while but have been lurking most days. I t's great reading about everyone's successes and progress.

I am currently training for a 10k at the end of the month. I have had a bit of runner's knee which means I've had to take a few days off and I haven't been able to build up my mileage much more 15 a week. Have got up to 8 miles though so I don't think I'll risk my knee and increase my long runs until after the 10k.

I did have an interesting experience yesterday as I ran to see a friend for the evening ( nice 4.5 miler). on the way back I had intended to catch the bus but had to walk to the bus stop which was about 3/4 mile away. I ended up running for about 2 miles ( too cold to walk and in running gear). After two glasses of wine it was so much easier presumably because the muscles were so loose. It's probably not recommended though so don't try this at home!

KristinaM · 11/05/2014 21:13

Two glasses of wine, you say? Red or white ? < makes notes >

KristinaM · 11/05/2014 21:18

Grin at cinnamon

If I was offended every time I got something wrong or said something stupid on Mumsnet, I would have flounced years ago

Blatherskite -I look forward to reading your HM reports / tips . Five in a year is impressive . Or mad. I can't quite decide.

AmberNectarine · 11/05/2014 21:19

Checking in with 7 miles to add to our total so 527.1. Had a bit of a splurge in Sweaty Betty today so had to take my new gear out for a spin!

originalpiratematerial · 11/05/2014 21:26

Can I bore on a bit about something? I'm STILL dithering about whether to sign up for the Hackney half-marathon on 22 June. I have to decide by 21 May. I thought I was going to be just about ok for it, having got my long run up to 9 miles two weeks ago, but have just been ill for a week so missed a full week of running.

Downside - I am not sure whether I will be fit enough, it may be very hot by 22 June, I've never done a half-marathon and indeed only one 10k, and my toes are really suffering - I have three black toenails atm.

Upside - it's local, I wouldn't be interested if it wasn't Hackney. I would be SO proud of myself if I finished, even if had to walk say the last three miles.

I guess I could enter anyway and if I don't feel up to it, just scratch and wave goodbye to the entry fee - which would be annoying but definitely not the end of the world. Am worried that if I don't enter, I will regret it, especially if in five weeks time my running is going really well!

Confused
KristinaM · 11/05/2014 21:28

Amber -do we get a photo of the new running gear?

Not enough photos on the running threads, we need to brighten it up IMO

AmberNectarine · 11/05/2014 21:30

opm I say do it. There's no shame in walking for a bit if you need to and it's lovely to do a local one. I was toying with the idea of signing up for Hackney too, but I'm away on holiday between now and then and while I'd love to think I'm disciplined enough to be doing laps of Lanzarote in reality I'll be sat on my arse drinking sangria :)

AmberNectarine · 11/05/2014 21:33

Don't have a photo Kristina, but I will link this fantastic top. Did not ride up once in seven miles which is unprecedented. Pricey, but CDBSU45 gives 15% off and free delivery.

originalpiratematerial · 11/05/2014 21:35

Thanks Amber. Sitting in the sun drinking Sangria sounds very appealing right now Envy!

Sirzy · 11/05/2014 21:37

Looks good Amber!

Go for it Original

Love the colour!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/05/2014 21:48

pirate go for it! You can't be as under-prepared as the lady someone posted about recently on this thread or the last one who did a 10 mile charity race with no preparation. Most training programmes only take you up to 10 miles before the race anyway, so you are not far off already.

fingersonbuzzers · 11/05/2014 21:48

Five half marathons in a year blatherskite?

I am looking forward to trying out the new PR course for sure, totally agree on the slow start and actually I don't mind missing the slope back down after the zig zags as I don't like running downhill - is that weird, or do others feel the same?

Knackerelli congrats on your 10k! That's brilliant

youbthemummy I may be interested in your garmin as I keep borrowing DH's atm but would like one of my very own..speaking of DH he did a sprint triathlon this morning, which just sounds grim to me as I hate swimming and cycling.

OPM - do it do it do it! I am still wondering if I would ever manage a half marathon myself, keep thinking maybe next year - perhaps that flat one in Nottingham sweatshop keep sending me emails about Grin anyone ever done that one?

briteside · 11/05/2014 21:59

Woweeee - this thread flies faster than our feet Grin

pirate go for it, take it slowly and the crowds will also help you. You could easily add 2 more miles to your training in the next few weeks?

blathers you are mad - but in a great way. Good luck on your half's but maybe cut back on the wine for a while, or you may sign up for even more!

knacker well done on your 10 K - brilliant time

Amber I love that top..the color is gorgeous. Envy

I did a 4.5 mile this afternoon. The total is now 531.6 Miles

The run itself was actually great - I found a nice rhythm but after about 2 and a half miles, my feet started to go numb and by the time I got home they were completely numb. It was like running on lumps of wood - not painful but not at all pleasant. They were back to normal after literally 5 seconds of walking afterwards. I stopped a couple of times to loosen my shoelaces but there was no difference.

The only thing that I did differently today was to run slightly slower than usual. Has anyone else had this before? Any ideas?

Jeregrette · 11/05/2014 22:02

"Two glasses of wine, you say? Red or white ? < makes notes >"

KristinaM- Red. It was fantastic. Talk about a runner's high. It was saturday night though and I did have to dodge a lot of really drunk people!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/05/2014 22:13

briteside - I have had numb feet when running before. It usually starts about 3 miles in, and goes away by about 5 miles. I don't get it as often as I used to. I was telling someone at work who thought it might be back-related (he has stopped running further than 10K on the advice of a physio after back problems).

emummy · 11/05/2014 22:14

theonly sorry! was out with dcs and don't see your post. Yes , was Deeside way, out from my house in Banchory, along through Crathes and back along the way. A bit damp but pretty! The hill up into Crathes is a little unpleasant though!

Well done to racers this weekend, my first 10k is next weekend, looking forward to it I think!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/05/2014 22:15

Very Envy of all the running this weekend, even though I wouldn't have been running even if I wasn't injured because of other commitments.

Sirzy · 11/05/2014 22:17

The closer my 10k gets the more scared I get!

briteside · 11/05/2014 22:17

interesting ohone as my lower back is tighter than usual after a run. It could also be a result of my 2 year old using me as a climbing frame while I was stretching though!

originalpiratematerial · 11/05/2014 22:32

Sirzy when is it? I did my first (and only one so far) at the beginning of April. I was quite nervous but it was fine - even enjoyable! I'm sure you will be fine too!

originalpiratematerial · 11/05/2014 22:33

For tight lower backs - cat stretches and Pilates bridges are both really good - and pulling in your abs but without tucking under, if you see what I mean.
