Just got back from the longest ever run in my 46 years...drum roll....26km from home down to the Thames, over Richmond Lock, along the Thames Path on the south side through Kew, Chiswick and Barnes up to Hammersmith Bridge, then turned round and retraced my steps. It should have been about 27.5km if I'd run all the way back home but I got to 26 and thought, sod it, that will do! I walked the rest of the way home with a detour into the shop to buy some chocolate milk (good recovery drink), having had the foresight to take some money with me (and my Kew Gardens membership card so I could use their loos!)

Got in the door, very grateful for the downstairs loo and my insides were doing all sorts of weird things, I think they've been thoroughly shaken up this morning. Had no idea about the bleeding toe until I took my socks off.

It took 2:48 with a fairly consistent pace of about 9.3km/h. My 16.2 miles brings the total up to 107.7 so far.

Hope you all have a relaxing Sunday! I'm off for a lie down...

AmberNectarine · 04/05/2014 12:38

Are you marathon training postman? That's quite some distance!!

cinnamongreyhound · 04/05/2014 12:53

I prefer endomondo SoftKittyWarmKitty, more reliable
GPS where I live anyway. And yes you can build up to 10k 4months+ no probs. There is an nhs podcast like the c25k for getting to 10k if you used/liked that before.

Welcome back EATmum! And yay for parkrun!!

Perhaps alternate or one a month Chopstheduck, it's not just the running it's the whole parkrun thing well worth the travel imo :)

Well done postmanpatscat!! I have a sore toe too, it's bleeding but only under the nail, may have to do some surgery when I get home Confused

We are driving back from my first cani-cross race, I did a half marathon with my littlest doggy and she was a star! So proud of her, she was still pulling through the sand in the last half mile looking back at me wondering why I was so slow! Anyway another 13.1 miles to add to the total.

120.8miles

youbethemummylion · 04/05/2014 12:57

Yay finished my first ever 10k race! Im thrilled! Does anyone know why on results website it says chip time 1:11:20 and finish time 1:11:35 whats the difference?

cinnamongreyhound · 04/05/2014 13:23

Finish time is from when the start gun/whistle etc went off which is the official time but for your information you wear a chip which measures from when you actually crossed the line at the start, which for bigger races can be minutes difference. Well done on your first 10k and on your time :)

CardiffUniversityNetballTeam · 04/05/2014 13:41

Well done to everyone who raced this morning or yesterday, some long distances in there!
I will add my 3.1 miles that I am just back from, so 123.9 miles. Grin

desertbaby · 04/05/2014 14:04

Well done everyone. Postmancat and Mummylion go you!
Did you plan such a big one Postman?
How was your first race Mummylion?

desertbaby · 04/05/2014 14:05

130.1to include Mummylion's 6.2 miles

youbethemummylion · 04/05/2014 14:13

Ah I see thanks for the explanation, I actually ended up nearer the front at the start than I intended and then got stuck there so there wasnt much difference between the two times. The race went ok I stuck to my pace at the beginning but at around 7k there was a big hill and I ended up walking a bit then I struggled after that. Although I even got a mention from the commentator about my sprint finish from 400 metres.

youbethemummylion · 04/05/2014 14:14

Oh and well done to everyone else who raced or ran today.

originalpiratematerial · 04/05/2014 14:21

Can I ask a question about charity fund-raising runs? I have just spotted that there is a British Heart Foundation 10k run on Wednesday at the Tower of London, which you can enter on the day. There is no way I can get sponsorship (I raised over £2000 for the one I did in April so I have cleaned out everyone's piggybanks) - can I just make a donation myself or is that really bad form?

EauRouge · 04/05/2014 14:29

I don't think it's bad form- it's still a donation, it doesn't matter to them whether you get multiple people to sponsor you or donate it yourself. I think it's quite common for runners to make up their total if they've got a minimum donation to raise.

Running around the tower will be fab, post some photos!

youbethemummylion · 04/05/2014 14:31

I have entered a colour run for a local childrens hospice in June with friends and as you say I have cleared everyones pockets for this one ive done today so I am just going to give them a donation and try and get some sponsorship from relatives for DS who is 7 and is doing it with us. I think it is ok as long as they get some money and you are raising awareness.

orangeflutie · 04/05/2014 15:07

Postmanpatscat Well done you!Smile

I ran 6.24 miles this morning and really enjoyed it. It was lovely to just run and not fret about training for anything and a beautiful morning here for it too.

orangeflutie · 04/05/2014 15:08

Originalpirate I meant to add I don't think the charity minds who the money's from. I think they appreciate your efforts for them.

emummy · 04/05/2014 15:20

Well done all, great running! Can add my 6 miles in the Aberdeenshire sunshine today, is that 136 miles now? Someone will need to check my arithmetic! Good run, took 66mins - not sure if I will ever get faster but never mind, it felt great

Sirzy · 04/05/2014 16:18

5 miles so 141 miles

postmanpatscat · 04/05/2014 16:31

Well done mummylion on your 10k.

emummy if it felt great, that's much better than a fast time!

I sort of planned a long one, could have turned around at Barnes but decided to keep going, partly because DP and I have been discussing this route as once you get to the river it is traffic-free. I haven't run that way for years so couldn't confidently tell him to give it a go, but now I can. Anything over 20km I was happy with. Legs still a bit stiff and sore now but at least my insides have settled down probably because there's nothing left in there to come out after multiple trips to the bathroom

Definitely not in marathon training, haven't done one (except Moonwalk) and don't want to either! I was feeling great for first 20k or so, then after about 22 legs got tired and started to feel queasy. Maybe breakfast or some fluids would have helped, I hadn't had anything to eat or drink before I set off and had nothing with me either.

PostHocErgoPropterHoc · 04/05/2014 17:01

3 miles today so 144 miles in total.

Woohoo! Square number!

Grin

Well done on all your big runs today. I think I'm going to try a parkrun next weekend.

originalpiratematerial · 04/05/2014 17:09

thanks EauRouge and mummylion!

Chopstheduck · 04/05/2014 18:03

7 from me so 151. I aimed to do 10k but misjudged my route a bit, so ended up going a little further. I was very happy though - 64:45 for the 10k, new PB and very chuffed considering it was quite hilly and finished at the top of a killer.

I will get around to trying it some time Cinnamon, I really must. That's intersting about the chip, I had wondered about that. So do they rank people on the chip or on the line?

postmanpatscat, I am very envious of your city runs. I do love the countryside, but would love to be able to run around in town once in a while!

cinnamongreyhound · 04/05/2014 18:08

Ranked on 'gun time' hence why some people are quite pushy at the start!

zombiesheep · 04/05/2014 18:12

New PB tonight, 5k in 27.19 well chuffed because I didn't really wanna go out and run but forced myself :o

Exams in a week so will have to cut down on my runs to prepare for those :(

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 04/05/2014 18:22

Just a short run with DS this afternoon of 2 miles but brings the total to 146 miles so far. Next run on Tuesday when he's back at school, so it'll be a longer one.

Thanks for the encouragement about being able to run the 10k in Sept. Anotherbitofcake it's the Great Yorkshire Run in Sheffield on the 28th. The route looks boring and not very scenic but it's pretty flat, well flat for Sheffield anyway Grin. Thanks to those who recommended Runner's World for training plans, I'll have a look this evening.

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 04/05/2014 18:23

Cross posted! New total is 153 when my 2 miles are added to Chops' mileage.
