Hey guys, I just started yesterday with Ripped in 30 and am wondering if I should stick with this one or mix it up every day? I'm going from completely sedentary, no exercise at all and 30% body fat and would love to lose a hefty percentage of that...

What would I be best off doing? I have quite a dvd collection (that I never do...), 30DS, Rin30, Extreme S+S, Body Revolution so I could mix and match? Or would I get better results sticking with just one?

Have a big birthday in less than 2 months, would love to be much more slinky and less flabby!

StuntNun · 11/05/2014 18:01

I finished the 30 days of shred (took me 74 days Blush) on Friday so I was back to kettlebells today. 4 kg is definitely enough for me on the Kettlebells for Beginners DVD. When you're holding it over your head while you do crunches you really feel the weight.

EarSlaps · 11/05/2014 20:23

Hi panda, this time last year I was two stone heavier and about 31% body fat. I think I'm around 23% now (both according to the us navy calculator). I started with Shred (took two months), then did 6w6p in about 10 weeks and then Ripped mixed with some others. I did diet too- did 5:2 until December but haven't fasted much this year, or at all since early match, and have kept it off by exercising and not going mad on the eating.

I don't think it really matters whether you mix them up or stick with one, it's more about what suits you. Some people like to follow a plan, others get bored easily. I mix it up now depending on what time I have, which bits I want to work. I often do one Killer, one 6w6p and then one or two of something else just to work different bits of my body.

Thanks Stunt, I will get the DVD at some point I think. Might try a kettlebell class too soon- they have one near me.

ErrolTheDragon · 12/05/2014 09:10

panda - its up to you - personally I prefer to stick to the same DVD so that you get to know the moves and can see the improvement after a week. Most people start with 30ds shred (~10 days per level) , Ri30 is rather harder.

spinningirl10 · 12/05/2014 10:25

Hi Panda and welcomeGrin

I started with 30ds straight through and the did Ri30 for 30 days then moved on to KB&T which I also did for 30 days. Now I mix them up and do what I fancy but its up to you, whatever works best!

ErrolTheDragon · 12/05/2014 11:07

Just done 6W6P l2 - ok, think I'll do it for the rest of this week but then do something else.

RunningGuerita · 12/05/2014 11:08

Hello!
I have been doing Shred off and of for about a month and have recently recruited my husband to join me. We have very little time (both work, have 2 DC 3.5 and 2) so love the 20mn aspect and we fit it in between putting the kids to bed and eating dinner.
We used to be fit but in the last 4 yrs have done very little.
We want to buy another JM DVD to mix things up and am considering the NMTZ. I really need to shift post baby belly. But workouts are much longer.
Any other JM DVDs with 20-25mn workouts that you could recommend?
Thanks a ton,
RG

spinningirl10 · 12/05/2014 11:22

Hi running Grin

Ripped in 30 is the same format and I really like it although I know someone on here last week was saying they didn't enjoy it as much. With NMTZ there are 7 x 6min circuits so you could just do as many as you have time for. BFBM is the same format as NMTZ and they work well together. All are available from Amazon and have loads of reviewsGrin

RunningGuerita · 12/05/2014 11:56

Many thanks SpinningGirl10. I had started my looking on Amazon but all of her DVDs have great reviews! I realise it is all a matter of personal preference.

I think I will get NMTZ next and we can just do shortened versions if we need to...

StuntNun · 12/05/2014 12:04

Running most of the JM workouts are on YouTube, at least for the first level so you could have a look there. I gave 6W6P level 1 a go and just didn't get on with it so I'm sticking with the shred for now instead.

spinningirl10 · 13/05/2014 07:25

Morning Grin

I've done 30ds L3, my knee is still not quite right. Hoping to get to the gym later for some cardio.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/05/2014 09:39

I wouldn't particularly recommend 6w6p either - I'm doing L2 this week, and its OK but prefer the others I've tried. For anyone with dodgy knees, for something aimed at abs it has a heck of a lot of lungey moves.

IdkickJilliansAss · 13/05/2014 10:59

DS at toddler group with MIL so I've done Bob Harpers hour Long cardio and I have circuit class tonight. I quite liked L1 6w6p but only tried L2 once as found it was to fast to follow the more co ordinated moves

spinningirl10 · 13/05/2014 14:00

I can't get to the gym today so did an hour of yoga meltdown.

IdkickJilliansAss · 13/05/2014 14:04

How was it spinning?

OP posts:
spinningirl10 · 13/05/2014 14:43

It's good kick, I like it. Not sure I burn all the calories it says when I googled it but its easier on my knee! The second half hour works up a bit of a sweat Grin

EarSlaps · 13/05/2014 20:54

I think I'm in a minority here as I love 6w6p! It is mainly ab focused but works arms and legs too and I like the format. I don't do the 2nd round of L2 as fast as Jillian though, I prefer to focus on doing the moves properly than fast.

Got the beginnings of a cold so haven't done any JM today and will have to see how I feel tomorrow.

I've found a local Kettlebell club that does a 2hr introductory workshop focussing on technique. I might book onto one so I can get the technique sorted and work out what weight I can handle before I get any.

ErrolTheDragon · 13/05/2014 23:23

It doesn't really feel like it's working my abs as much as the other dvds though! Maybe that's just cos I've actually got some abs now... bicycle crunches are kinda easy! Shock

StuntNun · 14/05/2014 06:48

EarSlaps I'm completely sold on kettlebells. I've been doing the Kettlebells for Beginners DVD with a 4 kg bell and boy can I feel it the next day. It's working all the right places, especially my lats, biceps, glutes and hamstrings. I think I will get another DVD though as the one I have is great for toning and abs but I would like one for leg strength as well whereas the one I have is more upper-body orientated.

spinningirl10 · 14/05/2014 13:37

Hi all,

Today I've done 30ds L3 and 7 circuits from NMTZ and BFBM.

positively9something · 14/05/2014 22:42

Hi all,

Just looking for some advice I did ripped in 30 today which i found easier than shred, I'm not sure if it's as good and would like to hear how others found it.

Which DVDs work which parts? Also I think when I did shred my calves looked bigger than they did before and I don't want them to get bigger.

What parts does ripped in 30 work mostly?

EarSlaps · 15/05/2014 00:39

Ripped is total body. I hear the L1 is pretty easy, but I've not actually done it. The other levels are definitely a good workout.

Did Killer L1 today, it's growing on me!

Love the idea of the kettlebell DVD stunt- I need something to do upper body really so it sounds great. I'm going to give the local classes a try too.

spinningirl10 · 15/05/2014 10:33

I loved Ri30, do a different level if you find it too easy....it gets tougherGrin definitely good all over workout. You can always use bigger weights!

Not sure I'll get anything done today. Had to be up super early to travel for work. Will see if I can do something laterGrin

IdkickJilliansAss · 15/05/2014 11:40

I ordered some more Bob Harpers last night, will report back when they arrive. Just went on a 2 hour power walk with a friend and I have a circuit class tonight so I dont think i'll be jm'ing but definately tomorrow

OP posts:
spinningirl10 · 15/05/2014 18:34

Ooh Kick, I've got Bob Harper now! Not sure how my knee will fare! Let us know what you think of the others when they arrive.
No JM for me today, long day and I'm tired now, another busy day tomorrow but I'll set my alarm early and get it done!!
