that's fab SoftKittyWarmKitty, well done! I use runkeeper on my iphone, I find it very handy.

Theonlyoneiknow yes, I would recommend them. I wasn't sure when i first tried them, as I was used to proper in the ear headphones, and these didn't feel like they were going to stay in, but they sort of lock in place and they really don't move, even if I manage to tug on the cord. Sound quality is pretty good and I like being able to hear things around me when I'm out too.

well done KristinaM and good luck for the races. That plan does look good.

Sirzy · 28/04/2014 18:31

I use runkeeper and put my phone in a running belt

I don't have an iPhone but I think running with something that big would drive me crackers anyway. I certainly wouldn't be able to run with one of those arm bands on. I have - and love - a Garmin to track my runs. The only time it's ever lost signal is when I've stood under a bridge for a while doing circuits.

I use Runkeeper on my iPhone and I usually just carry it. I have bought an armband for longer runs though.

I am using one of its HM training plans too, but I've only done four runs and not actually signed up for any races at all yet this summer!

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 28/04/2014 19:22

Thanks for the recommendations Smile. I'm getting my new iPhone delivered tomorrow so will see which ones I won't to download. Stupid question but do you need earphones in if you're just tracking your time?

Is a garmin small then Blatherskite?

ThursdayLast · 28/04/2014 19:27

No, headphones not compulsory Smile

TessTackle · 28/04/2014 19:50

I can't keep up with you all! Hope you're all well. Welcome newcomers!

Didn't get to run today,DDs pre school was unexpectedly closed with no fucking notice so I've just done the 30 day shred instead and really looking forward to getting a run in if I'm able tomorrow!

Blatherskite · 28/04/2014 20:06

A Garmin is a GPS watch SoftKitty. A big watch I admit but I find it so much easier to carry and it's much easier to check time/distance etc while you're moving too.

We regularly all laugh at each other as it's got to the point where most of my running friends now wear our Garmins as our main watch too so you can easily spot the runners :)

I really must get a battery in my 'proper' watch but I kind of like being spottable Wink

postmanpatscat · 28/04/2014 20:19

A Garmin Forerunner 10 is no bigger than a normal digital watch, as long as you don't get the orange or black/red colour options. Mine is funky purple Smile

SoftKittyWarmKitty · 28/04/2014 20:26

Ah, I see. They sound great, might invest in one if I keep it up. I almost daren't google the price, though Grin.

alleypalley · 28/04/2014 20:31

Goodness this thread moves fast.

I joined last week but have name changed since. I was ItsaboatJack

So I felt quite good after last Thursday's run, but didn't get time to go again over the weekend. Went this morning though. Did 4.5 miles in 44mins.

I plan to go 3 times this week and 2 weight sessions Grin

postmanpatscat · 28/04/2014 20:32

Mine was around £70, some with more features are much dearer but this does everything I need!

Nice run alley

Might go tomorrow, if weather holds.

LostMyPants · 28/04/2014 20:33

£100 for the cheapest one!

yegodsandlittlefishes · 28/04/2014 20:38

I use Runtastic on my android.

PolkaSpottyDotty · 28/04/2014 20:53

Blimey I'm really behind on the thread!!

Hope everyone is well and injury free :)

My knees are getting better. They seem to 'warm up' after about the first 1.5 - 2 miles, still sore but not the awful stabbing pain I'd had.

My other good news is that I've run 4 miles with no stopping! Took 48 minutes but I'm so pleased - and loving these post run highs!

I'm using my iPhone in a running belt with Runkeeper on. I am getting a bit obsessive about my running charts, s

PolkaSpottyDotty · 28/04/2014 20:54

Oops!

Obsessive about running charts, splits and pace.

Has anyone done ice or cold baths after a run?

yegodsandlittlefishes · 28/04/2014 20:55

Brrr! I thought ice was for bones/joints and warmth for muscles?

PolkaSpottyDotty · 28/04/2014 21:00

When you run long distances, you get tiny little bleeds in the muscle. The cold stops this and prevents damage.

I tried it the other day and squealed!

CQ · 28/04/2014 21:03

I take my iPhone in the little zippy pocket on the back of my running tights. Leaves no room for the house key so I have to hide that near the back door.

I use MapmyRun and it syncs with MyFitnessPal so I get instant credit on my daily calorie allowance Grin

I've never been brave enough to do ice baths but the science makes sense. Closest I came was wading in the sea in November - man that was cold - but my legs felt great once they'd thawed out!

AmeliaToppingLovesShopping · 28/04/2014 21:08

Hi can I ask a quick question please? :)

I started running last year and made it to week 5 or 6 of the C25K but then my shins became really painful after a run. Apart from getting running shoes fitted properly is there anything that I can do to prevent this happening again?

I really want to give it another go but I'm a bit worried about it.

Thanks.

rusmum · 28/04/2014 21:12

I am run/ walking 4 miles 3 x a week but find it hard!!!!! I can't even run a continuous mile at the mo. Just keep, trying to have less walk breaks and shorter ones. Will this work?

PolkaSpottyDotty · 28/04/2014 21:18

Amelia I would say gait analysis and proper running shoes are a must. Then maybe physio, depending on how you feel.

rusmum Have you tried Couch to 5k or similar? You might be trying to do too much too soon?

rusmum · 28/04/2014 21:30

Hi I completed c25k about 2 years ago, then did nothing!!! Oops Blush

cinnamongreyhound · 28/04/2014 21:32

No it won't theonlyoneiknow!

Hi SoftKittyWarmKitty! I use endomondo on my phone and keep it in my pocket in the bum of my leggings. That will give you time/distance/pace. Dh doesn't like me going out without my phone so even though I have a garmin to track my running I put endomondo on too. Mine is set to tell me pace every mile and it's comes out of the speakers.

Well done PolkaSpottyDotty!

Did a fab 5 mile doggy run today, mostly along the bike tracks so very bendy and bumpy! Dogs went in river too, only down side my little dog caught and killed a rabbit :( not a mark on it though!

cinnamongreyhound · 28/04/2014 21:33

I knew I recognised your name rusmum! We must have been on the same c25k thread :)
