April 30 day shred anyone?

I hope there isn't already a thread, had a look & could only find the March one. I have it on good authority that Tesco have the DVD for a fiver - I'm off to spend some club card points so that I have no excuse to not get cracking tomorrow!

I've also taken a 'before' photo (eek!) so that I can marvel at my transformation at the end of it if the shred doesn't kill me first

Who's with me?!

Ri30 D5L1 done. Yay. Same planned for next week and then L2. Anyone downloaded the JM app to their phone? If so, any good?

ErrolTheDragon · 25/04/2014 10:40

RI30 L4 D8 (I think) done... will move onto something else next week. Not quite sure what - I've now got KB&T, 6W6P and NMTZ, which I intend to mix up so I'm focussing on different areas alternate days - as I'm starting to be able to work the muscles a bit harder I feel like I need to rest them alternately.

Power - it usually gets easier after D4 - have a rest day (essential to have 1 or 2 a week) and return refreshed.

ThePowerOfMe · 25/04/2014 10:46

Errol yes, I think I will. I've been walking lots and going out on my bike so its not like I won't be doing anything.
You seemed to be towards the end of the program - what kind of results have you got?

GandTnow · 25/04/2014 12:43

Errol I think level 3 of Ripped has done something painful to my lower back. As a veteran of JM do you think it might have been those drop back, legs up, roll forward jump up things? (technical jargon you see!) or the crunching with leg lift? Keen to avoid in future!

ErrolTheDragon · 25/04/2014 13:01

G&T - sorry to hear that... I hurt my back a while ago, and have always been aware of strain in abs moves involving both legs lifted - keeping the back flat on the floor not curving upwards is important. So I think it's probably the leg lift ... I've forgotten already exactly what that one was, I've a feeling I adapted it to something more back-friendly or used a foam wedge or suchlike. I found the rolling up and down thing ok, probably because its dynamic and the roll puts your back rounded out rather than in IYSWIM. But probably until its 100% ok avoid anything which you think might exacerbate it. A back exercise I found helpful is to lie as if you are going to do a push-up - push up with the arms but keeping your pelvis firmly on the floor - hold a few seconds, repeat several times.

Power - generally fitter and stronger and in better shape! Able to run further than before without stopping - can go up hills much better (fitness and leg strength) - arms less pathetically puny than they used to be. Another 'result' has been that my visible progress spurred DH back to the gym and he's in better shape too now! Smile

GandTnow · 25/04/2014 13:45

Thanks Errol I try and keep all that in mind. Really useful to have someone on here to ask about all this stuff. Thanks
Finding ripped level3 a killer and wondering about going back a level or even doing Shred instead. Might have to sit it out today either way Sad

spinningirl10 · 26/04/2014 08:44

KB&T L2 D26 doneGrin

G&T, if you're finding L3 hard and not enjoying it I would do something else and go back to it in a bit.

StuntNun · 26/04/2014 08:55

30DS L3D5 done yesterday. Only six days left and I still can't do even one press up. Hmm

I was wondering whether we should merge this thread with the Lovers of JM thread as some people are posting on both and a lot of people on here have progressed beyond the 30DS.

GandTnow · 26/04/2014 09:34

Did Ripped again last night and enjoyed it a lot more (wont deny I did sit on the mat looking at the tv in shock for some of the time, but less so than the day before!) Also worked out what happened to my back, it was the running arms thing! Must have gone at it a bit too hard Blush

Nightwish · 26/04/2014 10:40

Ri30 L3D1... I actually enjoyed it!
Much less plank stuff which is great for me. Some of it hurt and as always first go I don't push myself too hard as trying to get the moves but was good.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend! I'm stuck home as DS's have upset tummies although they both seem fine now I don't want to spread it around. Typical as family are down visiting too.

Nightwish · 26/04/2014 10:40

Oh and I am happy to merge with the other thread, whatever, whichever, I'm easy going!

tabulahrasa · 26/04/2014 14:03

30DS L1D7 - done...I'm resting tomorrow, I'm hoping that makes it easier on Monday, lol.

StuntNun...I've been doing it on and off for about the 30 days now (sort of) as I tried R130 first and couldn't do some of the moves and tried to build up to it a bit, got so I could do the whole workout and then decided after about a week that 30DS was easier so decided to do that first instead, got to nearly the end of level 2 but had a week off over easter and decided I wasn't ready to start where I'd left off and started again...as of yesterday I can do a push up using my knees Hmm lol

BadRoly · 28/04/2014 08:28

Morning Grin

You lot are so inspiring! So after 2 weeks off Blush for absolutely no good reason, I'm back. With weights. I think the next few days are going to be a wee bit achy.

So I have decided that I'm starting from the beginning again so L1D1 30DS.

The Power I have really noticed a difference in my energy levels over the past fortnight. I really do feel better the days I do The Shred (even though I'd only done a week). Must be all those endorphins!

ErrolTheDragon · 28/04/2014 08:46

I think the JM lovers one was full - I guess just carrying on using these monthly threads is fine, so long as the OP makes it clear that that newcomers are welcome - often the start of a month brings an influx of people starting.

Stunt - I still can't do a proper full press-up, but I'm getting closer all the time. Work on your core and triceps, and/or do sets of inclined press-ups at ever-decreasing angles.

Anyway... just unwrapped my NMTZ and 6W6P, need to fix a work problem and then go try one of them.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/04/2014 09:01

Oh - there's another JM lovers thread. Actually, I think having two is good - when I started, I wouldn't have dared join that one. I think the monthly threads are good for newbies, for logging progress and for oldtimers to proffer advice - that kind of thing?

yadahyadah · 28/04/2014 10:23

Ri30 L1D6 I am glad I followed your advice Errol and decided to do each level over 10 days with weekends as rest. This week level 1 feels more like I am owning the moves rather than being thrown about by them. That alone is making me dread moving up a level less. Am fasting today too for the first time in about a month. Decided to fast and JM following a re-measuring session after 30DS. I found (whoop) that I had lost 2 inches from hips and an inch from upper arms and thighs but (gulp, sniff) nothing fron my waist. And that is my worst ever bit. I can see and feel that my stomach has improved in that it looks leaner and and feels stronger but the fact it doesn't measure differently has been a bit of a blow. Having mooched around a bit all weekend feeling both positive and negative, I decided to file it under to be continued and see how Rin30 improves things. Maybe after 3 babies and 3 caesareans my stomach is in a deep hibernation and needs more of a figurative ass whooping to wake up and shape up? Any words of comfort and hope?

Lambzig · 28/04/2014 10:45

Hi haven't seen this thread before, but have just finished L3D10 and thought I would share by results if anyone is just starting.

I started six weeks ago and have done it 5-6 times per week. I am 47, had two babies by CS in my forties, was completely out of shape with a revolting wobbly stomach and CS overhang, size 14 and had about 1.5 stones to lose.

I have not really dieted, just tried to cut out chocolate/crisps/cake tec and upped the fruit and veg, eaten less pasta, potatoes, but still had a glass of wine if I felt like it and eaten out once a week.

I have lost 11lbs, gone down to a size 10/12, lost 17cm off my waist (it needed it!), 7cm off my hips, 5cm off each thigh, 4cm off each arm and 6cm from my chest.

I look much more toned and my muffin top is going.

Going to start ripped in thirty tomorrow.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/04/2014 11:02

Lambzig - wow! that's phenomenal! And probably what yadah wanted to hear. Smile

ErrolTheDragon · 28/04/2014 11:04

Anyway - I just did NMTZ for the first time - after shred/ripped, it's easier in some ways (no real cardio) but some of the moves are quite tough. I was thinking of alternating with KB&T but maybe I should (weather permitting) alternate with a run with HIIT intervals (or some other type of HIIT)

yadahyadah · 28/04/2014 11:35

Thanks Lambzig. That is a heartening tale indeed as CS overhang and belly wobble is about where I am at. Hopefully the fasting and exercise combined will start shifting the podge tho.

StuntNun · 28/04/2014 12:20

Yadah remember you are drastically toning those abdominal muscles with the JM DVDs so chances are you are replacing fat with muscle in your abdomen hence the measurement not changing. The stomach vacuum exercises are good for narrowing the waist - if it's good enough for Schwarzenegger then it's good enough for me.

Lambzig · 28/04/2014 12:37

Yadah, the overhang is still there but getting much much smaller. Most of the change seemed to happen for me on the last level. I have been measuring weekly and 7cm came off my waist in the last week, so it's like it suddenly changed.

BadRoly · 28/04/2014 13:26

Wow Lambzig! I measured myself this morning befor starting, it's my thighs that need to shrink - I'm some kind of bizarre hourglass pear shape!

ThePowerOfMe · 28/04/2014 15:14

Lambzig That's fab!

You've inspired me. I've had the weekend off. I was only meant to take Saturday off but ended up seeing a friend on Sat night, having a late night then not getting back into it. I got told my job was redundant today (I was expecting it) so have been comfort eating all day!

Time to pull myself together. Onwards and upwards.

ErrolTheDragon · 28/04/2014 15:31

ThePower - that's tough, even if it was expected. 'Onwards and Upwards' is good attitude!
