April 30 day shred anyone?

I hope there isn't already a thread, had a look & could only find the March one. I have it on good authority that Tesco have the DVD for a fiver - I'm off to spend some club card points so that I have no excuse to not get cracking tomorrow!

I've also taken a 'before' photo (eek!) so that I can marvel at my transformation at the end of it if the shred doesn't kill me first

Who's with me?!

Sounds good Nightwish. I'm skipping breakfast most days. I know that's the total opposite to mainstream advice but I find that I eat less for the rest of the day if I don't have breakfast and seem to have more control.

I didn't shred yesterday as I couldn't get up early enough before work thanks to dd and a sleepless night but day 2 done today!

Hope you feel better Daryl

ErrolTheDragon · 23/04/2014 11:04

Just done my Ri30 L4 D7.

ThePower - I'm rarely eating breakfast nowadays either. The idea that it's essential for adults is really not proven. Kids, yes - but in the same way you feed a puppy 4xper day and an adult dog only 1 or 2 times, I really don't think that all over full-grown adults need 3 meals a day - let alone snacks. I read something recently which suggested that fitter people are less likely to 'need' breakfast than unfit... nice thought, huh? Wink

I'm doing 5:2 and a lot of people (not all) find that it's much easier to do the fast days by not eating anything till later - and that on other days they're much less likely to want to overindulge - especially on carbs - if they don't have breakfast.

Doing intense exercise also seems to supress appetite (whereas moderate can increase it) so starting the day with JM instead of food suits me well!

It seems to me that finding what works for you is what matters - eating at particular times from mere social convention if you're really not hungry doesn't make a lot of sense the more I think about it.

yadahyadah · 23/04/2014 11:43

Checking in -Ri30 D3L1 done. Smaller weights ordered and using tins in the meantime for side lunges. I find no breakfast on fast days keeps me in focus for the rest of the day too, Errol. That said, since I have JM'd I have not fasted but I think I am ready now to do the two together now. So next mon and Thursday I shall return to 5:2. Argh. I love it and hate it tbh. But it does tend to keep my appetite on the straight and narrow.

spinningirl10 · 23/04/2014 12:27

KB&T l3 D7 done!!

Still not feeling great but wanted to so it! I've been doing 8 days a level so last one at l3 tomorrow and then I'll do 2 days at each level to get to 30 daysGrin

ThePowerOfMe · 23/04/2014 14:13

Oh wow Errol and Yahdah. Thanks for your comments.

Its good to hear that skipping breakfast makes sense for some people.

Its the only thing that's worked for me. I'm normally the type of person that will eat all day long. Eating meals and picking on food inbetween meals mindlessly and having a binge every now and then.

Since I started skipping breakfast, I can actually control what and when I eat. Its amazing. I really wish I'd known this before.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/04/2014 14:31

Just had a google, couldn't find the piece I was reading before but there's an article here which discusses the pros and cons of breakfast.

yadah, I find absolutely no problem exercising on a fast day or the next morning after just some tea/coffee. Good luck next week!

ErrolTheDragon · 23/04/2014 14:37

Oh, and ThePower - picking on one word in your last post mindlessly - a sentence I liked in another piece I found was 'Hard-and-fast rules don't allow for much mindfulness, anyway-and that's an integral part of any nutritional approach' .... eating mindfully, whatever regime suits you, is definitely something to try to do. That can mean deciding not to have a meal if you're not hungry, chucking some extra veg in your meal, or deciding you're going to have an ice-cream because it's a nice day and then thoroughly enjoying it without guilt.

Sorry, seem to have gone a little OT with my 'food for thought'Wink!

ThePowerOfMe · 23/04/2014 14:56

:) Bring it on Errol
I feel like I've found that miracle cure for my overeating that I've been searching for.
I've only been doing it since the weekend but I'm finding it easy. I add salad and extra veg to my meals (which is the same as what everyone else is having) and I have a mini magnum or 2 pieces of chocolate at the end of the day without any guilt. I feel like I can stick to this.

I liked that article so thanks for that. I googled some more and there are some really positive articles on skipping breakfast! I'm amazed. Its given me more resolve and convinced me that this is right for me.
One article said that skipping breakfast blunts the apetite for some people. That's definitely what I'm finding.

Ok. I'll shut up too now :)

spinningirl10 · 23/04/2014 19:45

I don't always eat breakfast, it depends how hungry I am. If I have breakfast it's often late morning and then I don't eat lunch just my evening meal.
I never eat or drink before I exercise and I usually exercise as soon as I wake up. I find I get stitch if I have anything!

StuntNun · 24/04/2014 07:13

30DS L2D11 done yesterday so back on to level 3 ASAP. I can bend my arms a little on press ups now but I'm still rubbish at them so I've started doing some tricep work to try and strengthen my arms.

spinningirl10 · 24/04/2014 07:17

KB&T L3 D8 doneGrin

ThePowerOfMe · 24/04/2014 08:05

30DS L1D3 done. Showered, dressed and ready to get on with my day :)

I feel so energised these days. I have been living in a lethargic fog for a while so I'm thrilled with my new routine :)

yadahyadah · 24/04/2014 10:32

Ri30 D4L1 done. Eating mindfully is a big one isn't it? And I read on this blog called about living rhythmically rather than routinely which is about going with the flow in order to serve your ever changing requirements better. So this incorporates cleaning, eating, the whole shebang. It has really made me think about my own patterns and how to tune into them rather than crowbar them into another fit. Have fun with JM today, people.

GandTnow · 24/04/2014 10:35

Level 3 ,Ri30 done. But not very well. Seems like a big jump up and seem to have done something to my knee. Very creaky and grinding a bit. Might have another go at level 2 later as I'm frustrated at how poor my performance was this morning. (grrrr)

Nightwish · 24/04/2014 11:08

I cannot manage without breakfast, I am starving by the time I have finished the school run otherwise.

KB&T L2D5. Getting easier now. Still can't do any form of burpees so I am subbing with more cardio and hoping to try a yoga class soon to get some flexibility in my back and legs.
Had four days off, awful, couldn't fit it in on Easter Sunday and Monday and was back to uni the last two days. However I did really push myself today to make up for it and have been walking loads on the other days.

First day of Level 3 Ri30 tomorrow, you have made me nervous now GandT!

ErrolTheDragon · 24/04/2014 12:45

we've got a workman in, and I didn't get ripped before he arrived and really can't do it quietly, so I went for a run/walk instead. Lovely day for it! Will try to get into gear earlier tomorrow...

tabulahrasa · 24/04/2014 12:46

Day 5 level 1 of 30DS done...but only because I was sat procrastinating and this thread kept coming up in I'm on, lol.

I lost 5 and a half pounds this week Smile Blush I've been doing slimming world for months and losing fine about 1 and a half pounds a week, but I don't think I've ever lost that much in a week doing anything...I'm alternating today between hating JM and her blooming "we're all in the same boat together"* and wanting to hug her, lol.

  • Every time I want to stop it when she says that and go, no, Jillian Michaels, we are not all in the same boat together, well technically we could be because I could squash together all three of you fit people and make one of me, so I suppose I could carry you all in the same boat. I highly suspect given the lack of back fat and the fact that I can see abs that you're all finding this considerably easier than me...Hmm
ErrolTheDragon · 24/04/2014 14:30

tabul - well done for stopping procrastinating. (I'm a terrible procrastinator). I think we are all in the same boat... but we're rowing and JM is the galley master cox. Wink

tabulahrasa · 24/04/2014 17:17

Oh I know it's supposed to be encouraging...it's just right at the end of the last cardio bit and by that point I'm bright red and gasping and they're all so graceful that it makes me go Angry rofl.

I'm very bad at exercising and very good at procrastinating, that's why I started posting on this thread, I'm hoping it'll help me stick at it.

hinkyhonk · 24/04/2014 17:23

Been a bit patchy with Easter holidays and work getting in the way but I'll be back on it again tonight just as soon as all the workmen leave my house as there is no way in hell I'm demonstrating my moves

ErrolTheDragon · 24/04/2014 17:25

tabul - yes, these threads really do help... for one thing, you know there's other people who are in the same boat, ungraceful and red!

GandTnow · 24/04/2014 18:50

Lol Errol that sounds like a very apt description of me in the boat. Red faced, ungraceful and trying not to grunt too loudly! Grin!

hinkyhonk · 24/04/2014 22:11

So finally creaked onto L2D5 and actually it wasn't that bad. Managed to get all the way through without stopping and pretty much no grunting! A couple of days break really does help so if you are trying to do it all in one go I think a rest day or two does the world of good.

spinningirl10 · 25/04/2014 07:22

KB&T L1 D25 doneGrin

Will be doing something else later not sure what so I'll report back!

ThePowerOfMe · 25/04/2014 08:34

30 DS L1D4 done.

I did struggle a bit today. I think I need a rest day!
