April 30 day shred anyone?

I hope there isn't already a thread, had a look & could only find the March one. I have it on good authority that Tesco have the DVD for a fiver - I'm off to spend some club card points so that I have no excuse to not get cracking tomorrow!

I've also taken a 'before' photo (eek!) so that I can marvel at my transformation at the end of it if the shred doesn't kill me first

Who's with me?!

L3D10 done! Took me two months not 30 days though.

So, what's been the outcome?

Starting weight 9st 6.5lbs now 9st 4lbs but have been up to 9st 7lbs and down to 9st 3lbs (up and down and up and down throughout).

No significant inch loss, in fact my waist looks wider.

Doesn't sound that great BUT weight and inch loss weren't my aim (BMI 18.5). I wanted to tone up and keep up my fitness levels up whilst not running due to the wet weather.

I am stronger than I was at the start, am more toned (starting to get muscle definition on my thighs - yes!) and body fat percentage down from 18.9% three weeks ago to 17.9% today.

And, having started running again a couple of weeks ago can still run 5k without a break.

Need to decide whether to just carry on with 30DS or try something else. It's my bum/thighs and upper arms I want to work on. Abs are OK. Any suggestions?

I've never used an exercise DVD before but loved the little and often approach and feeling/seeing results like I never have before from a weekly class (which I rarely stuck to long enough).

30DS L1D3 done. Errol I was just thinking today that I should up my weight for the bicep curls and shoulder presses next time. Did all the anterior raises in first set but not all in second set, definite improvement though.

Nightwish · 18/04/2014 19:35

pink definitely KB&T for thighs and bum! Not sure about upper arms though.

NotGoodNotBad · 18/04/2014 19:46

My biceps have exploded since doing Shred and Ri30... There is also a JM kettlebell workout on YouTube. Maybe just up the weights for upper arms? I use light wrist weights as well as the dumbells.

spinningirl10 · 19/04/2014 08:00

Morning allGrin

KB&T L3 D4 done, might do something else later if I have time!

Pink well done on finishing shred and toningGrin yep I agree KB&T for bum and thighs!

StuntNun · 19/04/2014 09:08

I have fallen off the thread due to being on holiday but I'm back home tonight so hopefully I'll get back into the swing of things tomorrow. It's 10 weeks until I go on holiday so I'd really like to put some extra effort in before that. I was going to move on to Ri30 or 6W6P when I finish my sixty thirty days but now I'm thinking I'll start the shred again with heavier weights and try and follow Natalie a bit more. I'm not really happy with my progress on press ups and sit ups so I think I could target those areas with extra exercises on my second time through.

Nightwish · 20/04/2014 08:10

Forgot to [post yesterday but I did Ri30 L2D7.
Not sure if I will fit it in today.

Where is everyone... busy holidays and Easter weekend I suppose.
Hope you are all back on it with us soon!
And bloody well done everyone who is still going.
I promise you it is worth it, I have lost over a stone in the last three weeks by doing this and slightly modifying my eating. As I started in December I had lost hope of losing any weight but I think I may have tipped the balance with muscle and slight food changes.
Everyone is telling me they can see a difference so keep going and you will get there too!

spinningirl10 · 20/04/2014 09:44

KB&T L3 D5 and NMTZ circuits 1,2&3 done!! That was hard work this morning!

Night wish.....big well done on weight lossGrin

StuntNun · 20/04/2014 17:19

30DS L1D8 done as I was away last week and have got well out of shape. Hmm I will do L2D11 tomorrow then I'll have seven days of L3 to get to the end of my thirty days. And then I think I'll start again as I found level 1 brutal today using 2 kg or 3 kg weights instead of 1 kg ones. I really want to get the press ups sorted before I move on to other DVDs as they are a real weak point for me. My physiotherapist said there was basically no muscle in my upper back at all. Hopefully the last few weeks of exercise have made a big difference to that.

pinkflaming0 · 20/04/2014 20:39

Sounds like KB&T is the answer for bum and thighs. Thx

yadahyadah · 21/04/2014 09:03

Morning Shredders. Just did Ri30 L1D1 - pretty straightforward after L3of shred. Loved my four-day rest which felt so very well-earned after 30DS. Equally feeling positive about starting the next programme.

ThePowerOfMe · 21/04/2014 09:08

Hi. I know I'm a bit late to this but I'd like to join this thread please.

I started 30ds today and am wondering whether to get ripped in 30. What do people think of it? I've done 30ds before for 20 days and had good results. I think I got ill or something and didn't go back to it.

Nightwish what an amazing result! I'm hoping for similar. I'm cutting out all the crap and eating foods from ww simple start list. I like it as I think its pretty much 'eating clean'. What modifications did you make?

30dsL1D1 done

spinningirl10 · 21/04/2014 09:20

KB&T L3 D6 and NMTZ circuits 2,4&5 done Grin

Back to 6am workouts tomorrow!!!

Welcome Power, Ri30 is a great workout and a good step from 30DS.

ErrolTheDragonsEgg · 21/04/2014 11:00

Ri30 L4 D er... 5 I think.

spinningirl10 · 22/04/2014 06:55

Ooh it's quiet on here!

No JM for me this morning.....I'm not well and seem to have picked up a stomach bug!!Sad

ErrolTheDragonsEgg · 22/04/2014 07:54

Hope you feel better soon, spinning. As to its being quiet - you're up before most of us! However, I've got my kit on and am just getting my computer busy about its business before I go and rip.

ErrolTheDragonsEgg · 22/04/2014 09:22

OK, done my L4 Ri30. Are most other people in new term disarray today?

yadahyadah · 22/04/2014 10:11

Total disarray here, Errol. Made it on time by the skin of our teeth. Just did Ri30 D2L1. Felt better today but I need lighter weights. I was given a pair of 2kg ones but I think I need 1.5kg for some of the moves, namely the side lunges and raises. Cannot seem to get the flow of that move with 2kg weights. nightwish that is an amazing achievement. Well done. Certainly motivated me this morning. As a happy eater I am intrigued to know what your diet tweaks have been. Spill the borlotti beans, please.

ErrolTheDragonsEgg · 22/04/2014 12:34

yadah - yes, the side lunges and raises I use 1.5kgs. There's one thing in L4 (superman with an arm move) where shelley is excused weights, I couldn't manage even the 1.5s so today used a pair of 500l water bottles ... should have done that from day 1 and gradually increased, in retrospect. Oh well, 3 more days left.

GandTnow · 22/04/2014 14:25

Back after a few days off for all the Easter antics in our house. Still doing Ripped but not gone past level 2 yet. Think I might do a couple more days on that and then go onto level 3. Sort of feel that there isn't much time to improve technique before moving on (or scared of what level 3 has in store!)

DarylDixonsDarlin · 22/04/2014 14:51

Couldn't get 20 mins alone during the holidays, so have only just today managed D1 L1 30 day shred today.

Is it normal to feel really ill after the first day? Confused feeling sick, headache, (I seem to have a cold as well), can't keep my eyes open. Yet muscles barely feel like they've been used, slight ache in thighs on the stairs maybe, but that's it...shaky feeling inside my body like as if haven't eaten for a whole day :(

tabulahrasa · 22/04/2014 15:04

30DS level 1 day 3... I did actually get to level 2 day 8, but I had to stop for the Easter holidays and there's no way I can do level 2 without building up to it so I've just started from scratch. Thankfully I'm finding level 1 easier than the first time I did it, though harder than it was by the end of it.

Daryl - if it's your actual muscles that feel shaky then I find I'm in agony the next day... If it's just you, I think you might actually be ill as I've never felt sick or headachey and I'm massively unfit.

Nightwish · 22/04/2014 18:49

ThePower and yadah my eating changes are to eat way less sugar really.
Normal day -
Breakfast -two weetabix with semi-skimmed milk (ickle bit of sugar... naughty, less than a quarter of a teaspoon)
Lunch - Either one slice of toast with a poached egg and a sprinkle of pepper or a turkey sandwich with a little bit of salad cream, both using half and half bread. Also an apple.
Dinner - normal dinner whatever we are having as a family but just a bit sensible on portion size and will have more veg and a bit less of carbs than I normally would.
No snacks. And stopped drinking any juices and stopped having sugar in my tea so only drink water and tea without sugar.

I am finding it very manageable because I am still getting to enjoy my dinner and taking in a bit less calories during the day. It doesn't bother me having the same or similar lunch everday either.
Mixed with exercise, DVD's (KB&T and Ri30) between 3 and 4 days a week and walking baby-wearing a 2 stone 8 month old at least 2 miles a day during the week. If I can walk somewhere I will.

ErrolTheDragon · 22/04/2014 18:57

Daryl - I've been on these threads for months and I don't think anyone else has reported anything like that - I'm afraid you've caught something. Rest till you feel better. Flowers

(What's normal is to have very achy thighs for 3-4 days, maybe arms too; that wears off. Some people get joint pain, if that happens modify or substitute moves that cause it.)

GandTnow · 22/04/2014 19:11

Level 2 of ripped done. Think I'll do one more day and then brave the unknown terror of level 3!

Daryl think you might have a bug Thanks feel better soon.

Nightwish totally brilliant results! Grin
