As the first thread ( www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/1948631-Is-there-a-general-running-thread? ) is now pretty much full time for a new one.

Thread for anyone who runs no matter how fast or slow or how long you run for to discuss all things running!

Hi all, fab running all round! Thursday hope the knee feels better very soon.

i went out for a short slow run today - my first run since Sunday when I did my charity run - it was lovely to be out again. I did do a gym workout on Tuesday, so haven't done nothing, but I been feeling like a slob! Anyway I have downloaded a half-marathon training plan so I'm going to try and follow it for the next four weeks and see how I get on. If it's going well I might be brave and enter Run Hackney, which is a half marathon on 22 June.

I have a really manky toe (for those who like this kind of gory detail) - it's all black under the nail. Ick.

originalpiratematerial · 11/04/2014 22:38

Oh and orangeflutie all the very best for the VLM on Sunday!!!

Sirzy · 11/04/2014 22:44

pirate I love anything gungy! Apart from eyes, they make my stomach flip.

Registering for Brighton half on Monday. I felt really happy about going for it, but my sore knees are making me doubt my ability to run for that time / distance. They've definitely made me bin any idea of running the full marathon, however brief those ideas were!

Knee much better today, thanks for all the best wishes everybody. Going to wait until it's entirely pain free before running again though I guess I'll be doing pilates everyday this week instead!

How are you feeling today Orangeflutie?

postmanpatscat · 12/04/2014 10:18

orange hope all goes well tomorrow. I'll be in Manchester instead of London so watching on tv.

Skipped the parkrun this morning as DP is working, but went out for a run anyway and set my third PB this week...down to 26:45 now! Can't imagine running at 11.2 on the treadmill but it seems much easier out there.

Hope all those who did parkrun had a good run this morning.

thursday glad you're on the mend.

Sirzy · 12/04/2014 10:18

First parkrun done in 37 mins. Happy with that. Was nice running with others but wasn't that keen on the actual course as it was quite open and windy and uneven in places. Cant do next week anyway but will go again in a few week

Well done sirzy!
Takes getting used to running somewhere that isn't your choice, and in amongst others. I think pr is invaluable experience!

ThursdayLast · 12/04/2014 10:31

Postman, I just saw your PB time too, motoring Grin

orangeflutie · 12/04/2014 11:52

Hi everyone

Thanks for thinking of me. I'm quite restless today. The excitement is definitely buildingSmile I'm off to London this afternoon to stay with my sister and then she's going to come with me tomorrow to Blackheath for the start. Really can't believe it's nearly here! It's also going to be sunny which is quite funny after months of training in wind and rainSmile

I'll let you know how it goes. Hope you all have good runs this weekend.

EauRouge · 12/04/2014 12:15

Best of luck! Will keep an eye out for you on telly.

cinnamongreyhound · 12/04/2014 15:00

Enjoy it orangeflutie :)

Best of luck for Sunday orangeflutie I'm sure it'll be an incredible day!

Well done sirzy that's a great time.

I had rest day yesterday, going out on sore knees this evening which is annoying. I've found out that the equipment my daughter with SENs may need isn't available on the NHS. Today's run will decide if I do the marathon or not - if I do it, I'm thinking I could make a good dent in the £2k needed to buy the equipment....

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 12/04/2014 17:26

Best wishes for tomorrow orangeflutie Smile

Sirzy · 12/04/2014 17:28

Thats interesting thanks Tired, I got excited when I saw a pic of a dounut for after... but apparently it was actually a salmon bagel!

I wish bananas weren't the best food for running, I hate the things.

Hope it went well Polka, go for the marathon! Hope you manage to get the equiptment for her soon

I cant stand banananananas either. Peanut butter, now.....

I was timekeeping on this morning's parkrun. There's so many fiddly bits - people who dont run through the funnel, people who approach it from an odd angle, people who come through but then dont want to get a token, people who come through twice cos they're supporitng their mates.

Sirzy · 12/04/2014 18:18

I have never tried peanut butter! My sister has a severe peanut allergy so it was never in the house when I was little and it never crossed my mind to buy it since!

OP posts:
PolkaSpottyDotty · 12/04/2014 20:01

Peanut butter us vile!

I ran. Knees hurt.

Plan: get gait analysis done again, hopefully insoles can correct any issues as I can't spend another £100 on another pair! Get decent knee supports. Run marathon and raise shit loads of money Grin My gorgeous DD has been through so much already - a marathon is a walk in the park compared to what she has to deal with.

I might need reminding why this is a good idea!!!

PolkaSpottyDotty · 12/04/2014 20:03

I mean I can't spend £100 on a new pair of shoes. If new knees were £100 and could be bought in a shop I'd be all over that place!!!

Blush Grin

ThursdayLast · 12/04/2014 20:09

I would invest in new knees at that price too Polka Grin

Sirzy · 12/04/2014 20:14

I wish I could get new knees for £100!

Sounds a good plan Polka! we will remind you when you are struggling

OP posts:
PolkaSpottyDotty · 12/04/2014 20:22

I may need dragging...

And to think 4 years ago I was facing using crutches permanently. So many reasons to keep going!

Knee shops. There's a thought :)

Sirzy · 12/04/2014 20:32

wow Polka, that is an impressive turnaround!

I have always had lots of knee trouble but somehow it seems ok with running generally (touch wood)

PolkaSpottyDotty · 12/04/2014 20:55

I know :)

Amazing what a decent osteopath can do, when the surgeons have given up!

I'm feeling strong and motivated tonight, I will do whatever it takes to get my girl all she needs, to give ALL of my daughters the best life possible. A bit of knee pain ain't gonna stop me.
