As the first thread ( www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/1948631-Is-there-a-general-running-thread? ) is now pretty much full time for a new one.

Thread for anyone who runs no matter how fast or slow or how long you run for to discuss all things running!

Hello all, very happy with running at the mo. 11.5km on Sunday, will do 30DS tomorrow and 7k on Thursday.

How do I do bold on a tablet? Keep wanting to do it but can't!

FemaleJosh, I'm not sure you can hello (?)
I can't see bold or italics on the ipad Grin

if you put * either side of what you want to bold does that not do it? Does from my phone i think

mrsfrank yes when I read it back the bold failures thing made me laugh too when I read it back! I was doing it on iPad and as others have said the * thing doesn't always seem to work, nor does it on Blackberry.

Anyway, thanks so much for training info! That does sound like a lot of running time. I think I would be ok with the long runs, and I do about an hour with running club on Tuesdays, plus a speed intervals session and a short recovery run, but it would be quite hard for me to fit in another hour long session. I can really relate to what you say about always working back... I already get up at 0550 each day to get children ready before I go to work so mornings wouldn't work! Maybe evenings though... Well, the ballot doesn't commit me to anything does it and I can think some more!

Glad you are enjoying your running toofemalejosh !

Welcome roquefortlover :)

I personally don't use the app from my phone, just use the mobile site and with that * either side work as long as you leave a space on the outside and no space on the inside.

Did 4.5 miles this evening, it was much easier than I expected but my hamstrings feel very right at the moment!

Thanks Cinnamon ! Well done for running so soon after HM, I didn't run at all until the Thursday and then it was only 30 minutes.

Evening all! My experimental hour returned 7.8km, which I'm vaguely impressed with - I wasn't pushing it as I wasn't sure how I'd handle running for that length of time. What was nice is that it didn't feel like massively hard work; CV capacity was fine, though my legs are beginning to complain a bit now!

So maybe a 10k in June isn't beyond the realms of possibility.

After-dark running can be interesting, can't it! I caught a Tesco delivery driver having a crafty spliff, and two foxes having a bit of a Mexican standoff. Most surreal was the moment when a small terrier shot out of a garden, accompanied me for 20m or so, and then disappeared - not that weird, you might think, except that the iPod had chosen "Suburbia" by the Pet Shop Boys, and it was just breaking into the chorus. Spooky...

I forgot my headtorch tonight so had to cope with everyone else's light and we were down some quite narrow cycle tracks!

Well done Fishandjam!

Hi all, I'm new on this thread and v interesting reading all your posts. Out of interest what are generally people's average time per mile? I have been running for nearly a year, but I don't push myself and am by looking to do any races, but I go 3 times a week and would just be interested to see if I am running particularly slowly!! I don't really want to up my speed as I enjoy what I'm doing, but am just interested.......Smile

Thanks cinnamon- I seem to be anything between 9mins and 11mins, I seem to have got slower (lazy) in the last couple of months!

roquefortlover - I only started running at 46. I did my first half marathon the year I was turning 50 and my second last autumn at 51. I am still toying with doing a full marathon and think I should probably just get on with it. Anyone know when the VLM ballot is?

Hi orange flutie and gd1976! My times are similar to cinnamon's, I tend to do about 9 min 30 although can go faster over short intervals and also seem to speed up in races. My PBs are 25.01 for 5k, 51.21 for 10k and 1.57.24 for HM. Hope this helps!

Sounds like a good run fishandjam!

X post with feet heart! Maybe we should both go for it Grin. Not sure when ballot opens but it is usually the week after the race I think? I have heard of people setting alarms specially early so as to be able to enter before it cuts off!

Hi, I would love to join! Have been running since I was about 19 but I go through stages where I do nothing for months then loads (recipe for injury) so this year I am trying to get some stability to my runs - started off in Jan doing 5ks and have just been increasing it.

I 11k yesterday at a pace I'm happy with, so looking to maybe do a 10k in the next few weeks...

For the first 4 years I was an 11:30 plodder regardless of distance (from 5k-half marathon) but after a layoff early last year due to injury and illness I was suddenly running 10:30 a mile. I have no idea why and I still seem to be getting quicker inspite of limited running this winter. Really keen to have a decent spell of running to see how quick I can get - competitive moi?

Toying with the idea of the Milton Keynes HM... Even got the day off work already

Also, through my voluntary job I could get a marathon place for next year. Confused though.... What happens if you don't reach the sponsorship amount suggested?

Oooh hello lots of new people! Congrats again to everyone who did their run yesterday and for sharing their advice. In going to need any tips on offer as I've managed to hurt my knee now, with less than 3 weeks to go! Nervous. My personal trainer friend says IT band injury. Any thoughts/recommendations re exercise? She seemed to think that agonising movement over a roller would help -if I can achieve same without tears-
