As the first thread ( www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/1948631-Is-there-a-general-running-thread? ) is now pretty much full time for a new one.

Thread for anyone who runs no matter how fast or slow or how long you run for to discuss all things running!

Forced myself out and feel better! I was out shopping and had running stuff in the car so stopped off on the drive home and ran 3.4miles in 31mins, the first mile was a PB pace, so chuffed!

Means I now have a choice whether or not to get off my arse and exercise tomorrow.

Deffo need new trainers tho mr big toe on one foot is rubbing

My old physio didn't really expect people to rest when they were injured and didn't rate rest very highly as therapeutic. He thought you were likely to cause yourself the same injury over and over if you didn't use it as you healed. He was the physio for a rugby super league team though, so not used to wusses.

Didn't manage a run today as baby was just having a bit of.a clingy moment after her first full day away from me yesterday. It was fine but she's been very keen to literally be attached to my boob all day.

I have vibrant but haven't been using them much, sticking to the easy option flexible soles trail shoes, I plan to use them for speed work and build from there.

Really fancy doing a 10k soon to sharpen my legs and see how I'm running, I would love to do a marathon. Might enter the Ldn ballot but could act as MN base camp as we do live in central London...

Got an mid effort planned for the morning, not recovery exactly but also not too pushy as I can actually still feel my intervals in my not insubstantial thighs. Still, means I was't slacking, right?

Sirzy · 10/04/2014 22:01

If your physio was a super league physio I am guessing Your a fellow northerner sparkly? Ye most rugby players don't seem to like admitting they are injured!

Remember my weird toenail? It just came off after a long soak in the bath. Bet you're all really pleased I updated you Grin

I would love to do a Grafham Water run soon. Not sure about Wednesday, DH will be working so I'll be looking after the DDs. I think he might have Friday off.

Sirzy · 10/04/2014 22:13

Hope it didn't hurt eau!

Yes, I'm an expat (Newcastle/ Yorkshire) now living in London Grin Injuries are for football players, right?

Sirzy · 11/04/2014 06:37

I'm from Lancashire. It was a former rl player who inspired me to start running after his fundraising whilst dying of cancer.

Ouchie ouchie, my near fall last night has left my knee feeling v tender this morning Sad

Sirzy · 11/04/2014 07:44

Ouch, Thursday! hope it's better soon.

My ankles are slightly twingy still after Wednesday's run, but I'm going to take it easy doing my 5 kms tomorrow. Smile

PolkaSpottyDotty · 11/04/2014 09:16

Ouch Thursday hope it's nothing too bad.

I did week 3 day 2 yesterday, had no problem with it so will probably jump to week 4. My old hockey knee injury is letting itself be known I was so hopeful that spending £££s on proper running shoes would stop it hurting.

postmanpatscat · 11/04/2014 09:23

Get well soon Thursday

dotty would knee supports help? DP used to wear them all the time but since he lost 3st he doesn't bother any more! Not suggesting that you have 3st to shift, just that they obviously helped!

briteside · 11/04/2014 09:23

great times postman Well done. I know what you mean about the technology. As I download from my Garmin to Garmin Connect, update my MFP profile and upload to Runkeeper...while wondering if I should have used a metronome to gauge cadence or if the music in the ishuffle is up to date, I wonder what happened to good old plain, simple running!

Great run thursday and good recovery from your near-fall! Luckily you didn't do any damage to yourself. What podcast do you listen to?

briteside · 11/04/2014 09:27

Oh no thursday and polka take it easy on those knees. Have you tried the usual RICE to see if it helps?

ThursdayLast · 11/04/2014 09:46

Thank you all. I will be doing as much RICE as I can, but a 1yo doesn't make resting particularly easy.

Parkrun is out tomorrow Sad v sad as I was going to be meeting Blatherskite on her holiday.

I listen to loads of different BBC podcasts. My favourite is Fighting Talk from 5live, I can usually be seen giggling to myself as I'm running alone Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 11/04/2014 10:04

Sorry to hear that ThursdayLast :( could you volunteer tomorrow so you can still be there? I injured myself last easter and it was avoiding someone who opened their car door in front of me without looking. My friend ran into the door but I avoided it and came off much worse. I then pushed myself at a hill training session and could barely walk for several days so please take it easy.

Sirzy · 11/04/2014 12:50

Oh no Thursday Sad

My new knee length running tights have arrive just in time for my park run tomorrow :)

thefemaleJoshLyman · 11/04/2014 15:08

Oh no Thursday sorry that you have a sore knee, I have had knee issues in the past (also from hockey Polka) and it is no fun, I run at the moment with my fingers crossed because I know if it 'goes' that is me out for a while. I can't face actually signing up for a half-marathon yet because I am paranoid that my knee will click and stop me from running it; clearly I am far too superstitious. Hope it gets better soon.

Ran 10 miles again this morning, didn't mean to - just kept going! The DCs are in nursery today so I had time to do it. Done quite a heavy 7 days of running so hope to do parkrun tomorrow and then my two 7kms next week and parkrun and not to go crazy with distance - my body has been feeling it this week. I also did 30 day shred on Monday but now hate it! Think I will just try to set myself up with a circuit of squats and lunges rather than doing the DVD.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend and great times at parkrun tomorrow!

HappyJustToBe · 11/04/2014 17:13

Evening, runners!

Can I join in and ask some advice? I'm training for a marathon in Sept following a Bupa training plan. I skate twice a week also. My thighs are in pain today after an hour run yesterday and an extra skate session. Not sure whether to run for 50 minutes as planned or hold off so as not to risk my 10miles on Sunday. The plan doesn't take onto account extra exercise.

When I say my thighs hurt I mean cant sit down properly because of the brief squat it includes!

Thoughts appreciated!

Sirzy · 11/04/2014 17:23

I am no expert but I would probably have a rest to give them time to recover.

HalleLouja · 11/04/2014 19:17

Today I wore my nice new NB Capri tights from TK Maxx. In celebration of my new tights I ran further (but nowhere near as fast as last Friday) than I have ever done. It was 4.95/ 8km almost. It didn't feel too bad.

Am off to Bournemouth tomorrow. Am tempted to go to the Park Run next Saturday as I have never done a Park Run. As I have a 10k race at the start of June maybe a Park Run would be good experience for me. I can't normally do them as I work at weekends.

Sirzy · 11/04/2014 19:18

How do they do the timings for the parkruns?

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 11/04/2014 19:46

I'd have a rest HappyJustToBe, and maybe do less than 10 miles Sunday too!

Do it HalleLouja, you'll be very welcome in sure :)

They have a stop watch, you press a button to record the time of every runner then each runner is given a token with a number, which corresponds to the number of times that button has been pressed and then that token's barcode is scanned after yours. Barcode and scanner both uploaded to a computer and the two combined. Hope that makes sense sirzy!

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 11/04/2014 19:54

Sirzy - the stopwatch starts for everyone at the same time, wherever you are in the pack. Some of the bigger parkruns take a few minutes for the back runners to cross the start line, but no allowance is made for that.

Sirzy · 11/04/2014 19:56

ahh yes that makes sense!

After a fight with the printer I have my barcodes printed, looking forward to it now
