As the first thread ( www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/1948631-Is-there-a-general-running-thread? ) is now pretty much full time for a new one.

Thread for anyone who runs no matter how fast or slow or how long you run for to discuss all things running!

Sorry - forgot to add, I am keen to do the National Lottery Newham London Anniversary Run but the link to register is not working. Is anyone else having trouble?

postmanpatscat · 09/04/2014 11:33

Anyone fancy doing the womens BA 5k in May with me? here

Thansk for the Garmin add briteside The mumsnet group has MN in the title rather than mumsnet.

I'm looking forward to watching Mo Farah in the marathon on Sunday...his gold postbox is outside my local post office and I've met Mr Watkinson (the school Mo attended for 6th form is 3 mins from my house) and one of the teachers he had at Oriel is a colleague of mine. I listened to his autobiography while I was running - very inspirational!

postmanpatscat · 09/04/2014 11:39

That wasn't very helpful - you have to use at least 3 characters in the search box!! It's called Team MN Connection. There's also MFP Garmin users.

briteside · 09/04/2014 12:02

Hey postman I have just joined Team MN Connection

I am interested in the womens BA in May - it is relatively local to me. Although my time is still pretty slow...Still aiming at that magic sub-30 mins 5km...

long way of saying I will do it with you, if you are OK with a slow-coach!!

cinnamongreyhound · 09/04/2014 12:18

Sorry runningLou, you haven't linked to it :)

runningLou · 09/04/2014 13:23

Sorry cinnamon! PF thread

originalpiratematerial · 09/04/2014 13:57

I'm a Brooks Adrenalin fan also - I'm on my third pair now. I have just bought some of the Nike 5.0 ones as well but they are for indoor - gym/treadmill running (it just seems wrong to wear your outdoor running shoes in the gym somehow).

I suspect I still over-pronate somewhat on my right foot - I would like to get a proper gait analysis done and find out whether I need orthotics. I have done the Runnersneed thing but suspect I need something a bit more in-depth.

PolkaSpottyDotty · 09/04/2014 20:19

We'll I'm feeling very pleased with myself :)

Still following C25K programme, but only needing to do 2 of the 3 planned runs each week and jumping to the next week. Today's plan was usual brisk 5 min warmup walk, 90 secs run, 90 secs walk then alternating 3 min runs with 3 min walks. I was really comfortable, so got home and my DDs joined me for another 20min walk-jog-walk (but at my 8yo's pace).

I'm seriously wondering if a marathon next year isn't that daft an idea... And it would raise some serious cash for the charity which supports my DD's SENs.

Good luck to all running this weekend!

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 09/04/2014 20:32

Nice one, Polkaspottydotty!

I did 5km tonight but it was one of those wading through treacle runs... Hmm Still, better than no run! Smile

PolkaSpottyDotty · 09/04/2014 20:36

I had that last weekend. Just couldn't breathe! Very odd considering I've run for a longer period of time at a faster pace today and I still didn't feel like a dying duck.

Repeat after me: marathon is NOT a good idea.

Sirzy · 09/04/2014 20:36

Fantastic Polka. I want to do a marathon but it seems a long way off being possible.

I hate runs like that Degustibus but at least its done!

Going out tomorrow for another crack at 10k. Going to try and reduce time below 70mins...but don't feel that good. I've recently gone on the mini pill to try and regulate hormones but I've had 2 full periods in the last 4 weeks and am clearly gearing up for another one. And I can't shift any weight despite eating really sensibly and all this running. Grr.

PolkaSpottyDotty · 09/04/2014 20:37

Sassy, it might be fluid rather than 'weight'. Give yourself a chance :)

briteside · 09/04/2014 21:35

'marathon is NOT a good idea' PolkaSpotty

which one would you do?

briteside · 09/04/2014 21:36

Also - well done sassy god luck for your 1km. Agree with Polka though, it might just be fluid...

briteside · 09/04/2014 21:36

I mean good

Although God may be able to help if you are that way inclined Grin

sassytheFIRST · 09/04/2014 21:39

Grin Frankly, if it took 70mins to run 1k, I WOULD need divine intervention Wink

briteside · 09/04/2014 21:58

lol....I think it is time for me to go to bed!

Hello runners Smile I used to run everyday then I had babies, DS is 3.3 and DD is 10mo. I've been doing bits here and there but something always comes up, I am definitely an up and out sort of runner but disturbed sleep really wrecks that. This week I have finally done 10k in a run, my first since the babies but I used to do them as my basic run . Also did intervals this morning, and my thighs are pleasingly warm right now Grin

Need to RTFT but wanted to just come and join you as a commitment to getting out the door reliably!

Note the shoe talk above, is anyone barefoot/ in vibrams or similar?

Sirzy · 09/04/2014 22:24

Hi sparkly!

I have read about barefoot running but never tried it

MelanieCheeks · 09/04/2014 22:32

Ouch. Pulled something in my calf at this evenings training session, so I'm lying on the sofa with an ice pack feeling sorry for myself.

pootlebug · 10/04/2014 09:33

Sparkly - cut yourself some slack, your youngest is only 10 months....10km is great! I know it seems crappy compared to what you were doing but you will get the old fitness back.

Orange - good luck in the marathon! For the first time since i moved to London 6 years ago I won't be watching near the start (it starts within half a mile of my house and goes past the end of my road!) as I'm away and I'm quite sad to miss it.

....but I am going to enter the draw for next year. I really wish it wasn't in April as running in the cold and dark really isn't my favourite, but if I do a marathon it has to be London, iyswim.

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 10/04/2014 09:51

Hi Sparkly!

I am interested to try barefoot - only managed it on the beach so far. I use Nike Free 3.0s which I love.

Last night's run has left my knees and ankles a little twingy so have decided to take it very easy doing gym training tonight, and may take a rest day tomorrow so I can run properly both days of the weekend Smile

PolkaSpottyDotty · 10/04/2014 09:55

Hi Sparkly I think you're doing brilliantly to even try running with babies so young :)

briteside I'd do Brighton. Registration is open now for the cheaper places so I need to decide ASAP. Eek.

PolkaSpottyDotty · 10/04/2014 09:58

The other thing holding me back (other than distance) is that I'd be running solo. At the moment I prefer running alone and judging my own pace, but I'm thinking it would be better to have someone for the 'I can't do this' moments.

Argh!! Bad idea, BAD!!!!
