As the first thread ( www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/1948631-Is-there-a-general-running-thread? ) is now pretty much full time for a new one.

Thread for anyone who runs no matter how fast or slow or how long you run for to discuss all things running!

I'd probably be joining a group for the very long runs, but I'm happy doing up to half marathon distance on my own. I do laps of my village and surrounding fields (4 mile lap) so I'd never be far from home.

I really want to do London as my first marathon. I'd probably settle for MK, but really it has to be London, doesn't it? We could have a Mumsnet marathon meet, it'll be fun. Grin

I actually prefer winter running, I'm crap at running in the heat. I've signed up for an autumn HM and now I'm dreading the training.

Sirzy · 10/04/2014 10:32

Perhaps we should all try to get places for London next year then and can push each other through training!

Sounds like a plan!

Sirzy · 10/04/2014 10:58

When does the ballot open?

OP posts:
EauRouge · 10/04/2014 11:10

I think it's the week after the race. I'm sure it'll be up on the website soon. I've heard it gets filled up pretty quickly!

briteside · 10/04/2014 11:10

I can't find an official date for the 2015 Ballot opening but a few of the charity websites give the 15th April.

I have always said that I am NOT interested in running a marathon. But have also thought that if I happened to enter the London Marathon Ballot and happened to get a place, it was meant to be Grin

It would also be great to join a group for some motivation & morale support...if I did run it of course!

orangeflutie · 10/04/2014 11:48

Thanks again to all of you wishing me good luck on SundaySmile

If you're thinking of doing a marathon I would say go for it even if you feel later down the line that you're a nutter Smile cos that's like I'm feeling at the moment! It's good to have a goal.

I've got the Marathon News in front of me and it says the ballot will be open for 2015 on Tues 22 April 2014.

Tiredemma · 10/04/2014 13:33

I really, really want to do a Marathon next year.

postmanpatscat · 10/04/2014 13:44

I really really don't want to do a marathon ever (although I have done the full Moonwalk twice and a 60k walk for Breakthrough twice) but I am happy to cheer on and support those who do! I even ran with my previous running buddy when he was training, did my fitness the world of good.

Just got my new Garmin Forerunner 10 to replace my new Garmin I got on Monday...I tried it out on Tuesday and found it much too big for my ridiculously skinny wrist and had to wear it over my long-sleeved top. When I showed the Connect+ data to DP, he was really enthused and we ended up ordering him one too. It was only at that point that we realised that the orange one I ordered is the men's size and most of the other colours are much smaller! I only ordered it because it was the cheapest, but I now have the purple one (that I really wanted along but wouldn't pay £10 extra for) and am returning the orange one to Amazon for a refund. Once I've reset it will be like I never removed it from the box (hopefully!!) I will leave a review on Amazon so maybe others won't make the same mistake.

Hi sparklyboots! I fancy vibrams but way to pricey for me especially if I don't get on with them.

Sorry to hear that Melaniecheeks, hope it isn't too bad.

That's very disciplined EauRouge! I have a 6 mile and a 4 mile route that I stick together, do the 4 first as that isn't enough and I worry if I do the 6 first I'll think oh that's enough and come home!

I definitely don't want to do a marathon although I occasionally have mad moments! A half is enough commitment for me.

Had a lovely 6 and a bit miles with the dogs this morning, nice and cool still, sun shining and no one to worry about as dh was on his way to work and boys with my mum, lovely!

EauRouge · 10/04/2014 16:54

Discipline has nowt to do with it, I value the precious time to myself Grin

briteside · 10/04/2014 17:39

Tell me about it...I love the peace & quiet on my runs. My music playing to hide the sound of my gasping and no kids demanding attention!

I am also struggling in this warmer weather, I already miss the cooler weather (Remind me that I said this when next winter comes!). I think I need to increase my water intake.

I had a run at lunchtime but really struggled...I only managed 25 minutes before stopping. I did some squats & lunges before taking a very slow run back to the office. So frustrating...

See I enjoy running away from home. Then I have to run back, that's how I maintain my discipline!

I also have no intention of running a marathon next year cinnamon! I think I'll try a half this year (if I'm still enthused when the entry firms go online that is) and see how that goes.

Mostly I just want to enjoy running for me. Like Eau, I value the time out from my precious family Wink

ThursdayLast · 10/04/2014 18:06

In fact, off out now while DP and DS get a bit if quality time Grin

briteside · 10/04/2014 18:14

enjoy your run thursday

EauRouge · 10/04/2014 18:23

Is anyone else doing the Great Eastern in October? I might have already asked that.

postmanpatscat · 10/04/2014 18:29

I just set a new PB Grin

55:37 for 10k (was 56:18) and 27:10 for 5k (was 27:15 and that was only last Saturday!)

Glad to see I'm not the only one here who wouldn't contemplate a marathon.

Sirzy · 10/04/2014 18:31

Well done Postmanpatscat they are fantstic times

postmanpatscat · 10/04/2014 18:54

Thanks...shame I remembered my Garmin but forgot my Fitbit though - that's a lot of steps!

cinnamongreyhound · 10/04/2014 18:56

Well done postmanpatscat!

I agree about time to yourself but after 6 miles some days I feel like I can go forever and others I really want to go home!

Also, I checked my shoes and my trails are adrenaline ASR but my normal running shoes are aduro, thought it was odd that those who over pronate had the same model when mine are neutral :)

ThursdayLast · 10/04/2014 19:23

Thank you briteside, it was a lovely 6miler listening to my favourite podcast. Until I nearly stacked it right at the end!
Thankfully I saved it, wheeling my arms around, leaving my phone on the road behind me, headphones dangling from my ears Grin
And no one saw, more importantly!

Well done postmanpatscat! Love the feeling of a PB.

My sis has just this moment messaged me to tell me that she's going to do her local parkrun this weekend, looks like we've got another convert!

BTW, I saw some Vibrams in TK Maxx recently...

Sirzy · 10/04/2014 19:59

First early evening run done, only 2.5km BUT i managed to get the first km in in 6 minutes (exactly!) so happy with that, 2nd km was slowed down by a dog off its lead throwing me off pace for a bit. Lovely to be able to get out before it went dark (just) should make it easier to fit in a few more runs now

Hello runners.

I have been very un-runnery recently. Horrible tendon pain, but has got no worse with resting so I shall try to run again.

I am not working next week, so if any Beds/Cambs runners are up for a Graffham Water meet give me a shout. Weds probably best for me Smile

Sirzy · 10/04/2014 20:38

Hope running doesn't make it any worse OhOne.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 10/04/2014 20:42

Well resting hasn't helped Sirzy Smile
