As the first thread ( www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/1948631-Is-there-a-general-running-thread? ) is now pretty much full time for a new one.

Thread for anyone who runs no matter how fast or slow or how long you run for to discuss all things running!

Yay MelanieCheeks!

And yes completely normal originalpiratematerial!!

Feeling a bit miserable about my next half, I was supposed to do it with a friend and her dog and my little dog. Her dog had to have a lump removed and can't run for 2-3 weeks and she injured her calf today so unlikely either of them will be ready to run a hm on 4th may :(. It's 1hr 40 min drive and starts at 9am so don't really want to drag my boys with me or do it alone or drop out either Confused

feetheart · 06/04/2014 23:31

Well done MelanieCheeks :o

Flitwick was the one I did. They have said it was approx 5.6miles but I'm not sure I believe them as my time is ridiculous - 9.32 mins a mile when I'm usually a 10.20/10.30 girl and even that is quite recent!
Need to get a proper course route as I WANT my age-grading for this one!

Ohone - they were still taking registrations this morning.

Cinnamon - not sure if it helps but I have done most of my 'organised' races on my own including two half marathons. Only ones I've dragged taken DH and DC to was first Race for Life I did and a Boxing Day Run this year. They got cold and complained!
However I must admit I am looking forward to Whipsnade Zoo Stampede and meeting fellow MN runners :)

Have some stuff about the Luton Summer series if anyone is interested - 3 Sundays at end of June, middle of July - 5mile, 5k, 10k. You can do one, two or all of them. I am seriously thinking about doing all three. I can offer alcohol hospitality in our garden afterwards if anyone fancies it :)

cinnamongreyhound · 07/04/2014 07:23

All of mine I've had someone there and I'm super nervous beforehand which I think will be worse if I'm standing on my own thinking about it all. Dh wants to come but it's so early for the boys!

Blatherskite · 07/04/2014 07:35

I'll be at the Zoo Stampede cinnamon :)

HalleLouja · 07/04/2014 09:12

Feet I want to do the Pretty Muddy one if you are up for it? Am doing Whipsinade Stampede at start of June which is 10k.

Yesterday for the first time in ages I was too lazy to run. Instead I booked a holiday for October. But need to run or do HIIT tonight (if its on still waiting to hear).

Sirzy · 07/04/2014 09:18

Booking holidays is always good use of time!

I'm in for a soggy run this morning. This will be a real test of my determination for the 5k!

However, that seems tiny compared to what you guys are achieving!!

HalleLouja · 07/04/2014 09:44

I know Sirzy especially as my husband likes to procrastinate about them and was happy to book this one Grin

HalleLouja · 07/04/2014 09:54

This will totally out me probably but is any one doing the Wheathampstead 10k? As I have other plans. I am not but it is incredibly local to me and is a fund raiser for a local school here.

feetheart · 07/04/2014 10:32

HalleLouja - I had a look at the Pretty Muddy one and would love to do it but its the same day as the Colour5k in Northampton that I am doing with DS(8)
Also looked at the Wheathampstead 10k but am away that w/e

Think there are quite a few MN Zoo Stampeders now though :)

cinnamongreyhound · 07/04/2014 10:33

It was feetheart who's doing the zoo stampede not me Blatherskite, I wanted to do the Banham zoo 5k this year but I am working until 7 that day :(

Hiya, had a crazy weekend (DS turns 1 tomorrow so it's family family family) so haven't run but have been reading what you' eh all been up to.
Melanie, I bet that cava tasted fabbo! Congrats.

And sorry I'm on the app so can't scroll or bold or anything useful but well done to everyone who had a good weekend. And well done for doing it anyway to those who had a crap weekend Grin

My feet are getting itchy but logistics are keeping me in Sad

Degustibusnonestdisputandem · 07/04/2014 10:56

Two 5.4km runs on the weekend, I've managed to get my 5km time down to 33 mins, but keep messing my pace on the first km by going too fast. Guess I shouldn't complain too much, as I've only been running again for a few weeks Smile. Mum has suggested she, my husband and one of my sisters run the mahogany trail (22km beach trail in Victoria, Australia) next year which I'm very keen to do. Goodness knows how long that will take us!

cinnamongreyhound · 07/04/2014 11:01

I use the mobile site when I'm on my phone ThursdayLast, can still do those things, I really didn't get on with the app at all!

runningLou · 07/04/2014 13:21

Anyone with experience of PF problems when running have posted below in old thread and would really appreciate your thoughts before I head off to hospital!!

Sirzy · 07/04/2014 16:11

Degustibus - I hve the same issue of going off too fast and then paying for it later. The beach trail sounds good and a great target.

Cinnmon - same here, wasn't keen on the app.

Can't help sorry runninglou but I hope you get answers somehwere

My doggy running group are dropping like flies! We have one doing the London marathon so he's gently running somewhere safe, one with an injured hamstring, one injured calf, one injured back and one off to Florida. So just two tonight, luckily we both remained injury free!

ThursdayLast · 07/04/2014 21:34

I love the sound of a doggy running group Cinnamon, sounds loadsa fun!
I made the most of daylight after 6pm and did 6miles this evening. Was lovely to be out and breaking a sweat, but I was running into the wind on the high ground- blimey it makes a difference to my average time!

Loved it Grin

originalpiratematerial · 07/04/2014 21:55

Is anyone doing the Olympic Park anniversary run anniversaryrun.com ?

I would love to but we will be on holiday then.

originalpiratematerial · 07/04/2014 22:16

Can I ask you lovely lot a question?

Sooo, I did this six mile run yesterday and it was the first organised run I've ever done. I felt ok afterwards but today my legs are quite a bit stiffer than I expected them to be - and they are getting stiffer as the evening wears on!

Is this normal? I've done longer runs previously and not felt it so much next day. I didn't stretch afterwards as it was more tempting to stand around chatting and eating hot cross buns with the other people Blush. And I guess I was more tense beforehand.

MelanieCheeks · 08/04/2014 06:08

Sounds pretty normal. Try to do a gentle recovery run, or even just a walk. Stretches and massages help too.

orangeflutie · 08/04/2014 06:52

Well done on your run originalpirate and hope you're less stiff today.

I haven't posted for a while and this thread moves on so quickly. Good to hear about the park runs. I haven't done one yet but I'm going to give one a go when I've recovered from London. Can't believe it's nearly here!
I'm excited and nervous at the same time. I've got to go and register at the Excel centre this week but would prefer not to take dds so I'm trying to pick a day when DH is around.

I did a nice 6 mile run on Sunday in the drizzle and am planning one 3 miler probably on Thursday. Trying to rest as much as possible but a bit difficult with dds on holiday wanting to do things and all the excitementSmile

I'm running for 'The Lullaby Trust' in memory of my DS and the marathon is something I've wanted to do for a long time so hope I get over the finish lineWink

Sirzy · 08/04/2014 06:55

Good luck orange!
