As the first thread ( www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/1948631-Is-there-a-general-running-thread? ) is now pretty much full time for a new one.

Thread for anyone who runs no matter how fast or slow or how long you run for to discuss all things running!

Good luck feetheart!

I've got my first 10k this year later on this afternoon. The forecast is for showers this morning, clearing by lunchtime, so that should be OK. I'm a bit nervous, even though I've run this race for the past 2 years! Time for some rescue remedy.

Sirzy · 06/04/2014 08:56

Good luck to you both.

Feet I have the same glasses issue

Good luck Feet. I try to wear contacts to run in the rain.

cinnamongreyhound · 06/04/2014 10:20

Dh has taken the boys to work with him so I can run so I'd better get off my bum and go!! Planning 8 miles in the drizzle this morning!

Theonlyoneiknow · 06/04/2014 11:10

Happy sunday morning runs everyone. I am enduring soft play mayhem !

Sirzy · 06/04/2014 11:26

m.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-south-yorkshire-26910318 hope nobody from here was meant to run this one! Sounds badly organised!

I know someone who did the 3.5 hour drive from here to run that this morning.

The Flitwick 10k was shortened to 5 miles due to a traffic fatality on part of the route too. It's not been a good day for running so far Sad

Sirzy · 06/04/2014 12:03

Aww that awful about the flitwick 10k Sad

I did my six miles in 1 hr 2 mins - not exactly brilliant but I'm just chuffed to have done it!

Sirzy · 06/04/2014 12:28

That's great original!

Managed to run 10k for the first time today but was one of those running through treacle ones; I never felt comfortable really, needed quite a few (7,8?) brief walks, and when I saw my time I was gutted - 70 mins. I have been doing the same route less a mile in 53 mins so it has taken 17 mins to do an extra mile - that's walking pace! Still, getting the time down has given me a new goal. Also have a knot in my calf today which I started to be aware of about half way round. Will rest until Thursday now, I think, to give the calf time to unknot. Maybe swim on tues.

Awful news about the fatality. How sad.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 06/04/2014 13:01
Sad

I was going to do Flitwick, but didn't register in time. How awful.

Mitchy1nge · 06/04/2014 14:05

extremely slow and extremely short run this morning but am buoyed up by the rest of you and your running chat (except where it is sad :()

feel like am definitely on the way back now :)

Sirzy · 06/04/2014 14:08

70 mins still a good time for your first 10k Sassy.

Mitchy - least you were out there again, hopefully you can start building it back up now

Grrr, I hate MapMyRun sometimes! I did this 10k race 2 years ago in 1:13, last year in 1:03, and had hoped to break the hour this year. But stoopit MapMyRun couldn't pick up a GPS signal, and so I was getting no voice feedback on my speed. The elapsed time as I crossed the finish line was 1hr and 42 seconds. My chip time will be a bit less, but I dont think I've broken the hour. Though it's seconds from it!

originalpiratematerial · 06/04/2014 17:00

Sassy and melaniecheeks those are still great times!

Sirzy · 06/04/2014 17:43

Frustrating Melanie but still a great time!

Good to see someone progressing so much, I am aiming for about 1.15 this year for my 10k and its good to think sub 1 hr will be a possiblilty eventally

I watched Brighton Marathon today... OMG the elite runners were something else! The winner completed in 2h 09 Shock

cinnamongreyhound · 06/04/2014 20:55

That's great originalpiratematerial!

Well done on reaching 10k sassytheFIRST, even if it was slower than you'd have liked!

So annoyingly close melaniecheeks but it's still an improvement on last year so be proud of yourself!

Very sad about flitwick 10k and a shame about the Sheffield half, although from what I saw on the news most people did it anyway and they still had t-shirts and medals on.

I had a lovely run today, was brave and went off my usual routes and kind of went in on direction for a while then knew I needed to turn and so on. We stopped at 8 1/4 miles as my big doggy had had enough and we walked the rest but did that in 1:21 with some stops for dogs :) much warmer than I thought but quite windy.

MelanieCheeks · 06/04/2014 21:17

Official chip time is 59:57. I'm currently sipping cava to celebrate!

originalpiratematerial · 06/04/2014 21:26

Oh brilliant MelanieCheeks! You must be stoked!

originalpiratematerial · 06/04/2014 21:28

Today was my first "proper" organised run. In fact, it's the first proper organised sporting event in which I've ever participated, unless you count PE at school!

And I keep wanting to witter on about it, and relive bits of it. Is this normal, or am I a complete saddo??

Theonlyoneiknow · 06/04/2014 21:30

Congrats,melaniecheeks!!!

I have never done any kind of organised running event. Am I missing out??

sassytheFIRST · 06/04/2014 21:32

Well done Melaniecheeks!

Sirzy · 06/04/2014 21:38

fantastic Melainecheeks

So far I have only ran alone, doing parkrun this weekend though and then in a race in may.
