As the first thread ( www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/1948631-Is-there-a-general-running-thread? ) is now pretty much full time for a new one.

Thread for anyone who runs no matter how fast or slow or how long you run for to discuss all things running!

Blumming not bumming Grin

ThursdayLast · 29/03/2014 10:55

Ours was cold and muddy this morning Dharma.
Theres one v steep slope that doesn't have a proper surface, I thought I was going to fall forward flat on my face Blush
Felt hard, thought I was a bit out of shape today or something, then checked runkeeper at the end and it MIGHT have been hard because I ran fast. Will wait for official timing before I get really pleased with myself Grin
Hope your knee isn't too serious Dharma

Dharmalovesdraco · 29/03/2014 11:53

My official timing has been confirmed slow - still it's still a Parkrun PB for me Wink

Hope yours is good Thursday

Dharmalovesdraco · 29/03/2014 15:00

Whoop whoop! That's brilliant!! How chuffed do you feel right now?

Sirzy · 29/03/2014 15:34

Dharma - at least you did it

Well done yoube!
Ack, my parkrun have a pic of me steaming down the finishing hill on FB. Both feet off the ground!

HalleLouja · 29/03/2014 19:02

I have read Running Like a Girl and have Run Fat Bitch Run but misplaced it somewhere.

Another motivational books? I seem to remember there was one about how speed wasn't the important thing but name of book has gone out of my head.

Am going to go for a run tomorrow. I really look forwards to running and miss it some days. Need to try and get to 4 miles again. May try to do that tomorrow but its my DS's birthday so we will see.

Sirzy · 29/03/2014 19:05

the only one I have read so far is running like a girl. Run fat bitch run sounds like it could describe me so will give that a go!

Kathrine Switzer's autobiographical Marathon Woman is a great read, it has a lot to answer for but I think about it a lot, it's shocking for how recently women have been 'allowed' to run long distances (I mean in my lifetime, and I'm in my early 40s).

I liked the one about the Mexican running people who live on chia seeds and syrupy beer and can run for about 400 miles without stopping Shock I think that's Born To Run, and the one about running with the Kenyans (called Running With The Kenyans) was fascinating too.

Still haven't finished Run: The something something mindful running one by Matt Fitzgerald but that was about running by feel and abandoning the Garmin from time to time

Jeregrette · 29/03/2014 21:42

I know it's incredible to think that at the Moscow Games in 1980 the longest race for women was the 1500m!

Sirzy · 29/03/2014 21:53

I was shocked when I read in running like a girl about the fights women had had to be allowed to run and race even fairly recently.

Now that the light nights are finally here (YAY!!!) I am starting my half marathon training for real tomorrow. No half hearted running- real training.
!!

holmessweetholmes · 30/03/2014 15:37

I loved Born To Run! I'm now reading Feet In The Clouds, which is about fell-running. Inspiring, but my god it sounds scary. Especially the parts about the 'Bob Graham Round' (running 42 peaks in the Lake District in 24 hours Shock).

Blatherskite · 30/03/2014 16:31

I got a new parkrun PB yesterday - 25:33! I've been doing an Improve your 5k course for the past 10 weeks and yesterday was the graduation run so it was good not to let anyone down.

Now back to half marathon training. My next (2nd ever) half is on Good friday!

Sirzy · 30/03/2014 17:48

Good luck tired

will look for both of them holmes 42 peaks in 24 hours sounds hard work

well done blather

I too am looking forward to some light nights for running after work. Once a week parkrun is not enough!

Sirzy · 30/03/2014 19:28

I was just looking out of the window thinking how nice it is going to be to finally be able to go out for a run when DS is asleep. SHould make fitting runs in so much easier

Genuinely forgot to reply back to this thread! Have been out running lots as well as keeping it up on the treadmill. Can't seem to push myself further than 5 miles though, although it is SO much better outside! The miles just keep falling off and before you know it you've done 4! Still a long way to go for me, I'd like to run the London marathon next year but at least I'm carrying on :)

cinnamongreyhound · 30/03/2014 21:05

Well done ThursdayLast, Blatherskite and youbethemummylion!

Sorry to hear about your knee Dhamalovesdraco.

I am also very pleased about the light evenings although it will mean dark morning runs forme for a few weeks.

I loved run fat bitch run and want to get running like a girl too. Not heard of the others but may have to put them on my wishlist too :)

Sirzy · 30/03/2014 21:06

5 miles is good Zombie. I want to do london marathon but I am thiknking of saving that for 2016 instead of next year!
