As the first thread ( www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/1948631-Is-there-a-general-running-thread? ) is now pretty much full time for a new one.

Thread for anyone who runs no matter how fast or slow or how long you run for to discuss all things running!

TessTackle I don't know either but I would definitely agree with icing it. I keep a small bag of frozen peas in the freezer as my icing device (everyone else in the household knows not to eat them!).

originalpiratematerial · 27/03/2014 07:24

And yes yes to being a runner if you're out running Smile

NinetyNinePercentTroll · 27/03/2014 07:26

Quick logging post for me this morning, hilly 9k done last night. First time out for 8d for various reasons. Not too bad

cinnamongreyhound · 27/03/2014 07:44

Oh my goodness, we just went out in freezing rain and hail!!!! Feel better for it though!

Hope you're feeling better soon TessTackle!

Totally agree, speed is irrelevant you are running therefore you're a runner :)

TessTackle · 27/03/2014 12:15

Oh you're all so lovely, thank you!
I've been icing and elevating, no run since Monday. Cabin fever is kicking in so I walked 7miles this morning. Almost feels as satisfying as a run.

Going to try tomorrow morning, but won't push myself if the pain gets too much. I found some lovely running pictures on Pinterest.

Runners thread - runners of all abilities welcome

I'm walking most days instead of running too. It's similar but it takes fucking ages, twice as long.

As soon as I can walk 30-45 minutes without pain I'll try to get my running powers back. Although this doesn't include the Slow Joggers group because we only run very slowly and not very far and it doesn't seem to make things much worse.

HalleLouja · 27/03/2014 13:52

Fell over running over the other day. Wasn't too badly hurt and no one saw me phew. I did run a bit after but it was near the end of my run so I stopped soon after.

Need to go running tonight or tomorrow.

Jeregrette · 27/03/2014 14:49

"I'm walking most days instead of running too. It's similar but it takes fucking ages, twice as long."

Agree, I used to love walking but now I just think its so slow and I just want to break into a run. I went out for a run the other day, then got some shopping. Plannd to get bus back but couldn't be bothered to wait the ten minutes it indicated n bus stop so started walking. I so wanted to run but i had a bag of shopping in my hand plus my knee was starting to ache and I didn't want to chance it by doing too many miles .

On times I have to walk. I do use my Garmin to amuse myself and even though I can now walk a mile in 13 minutes it feels more uncomfortable to walk fast than jog slowly.

I never could believe race walkers could walk at 12mph though- incredible!

youbethemummylion · 27/03/2014 16:54

Agh kids and giving blood are messing with my schedule! I should run tonight but cant get childcare so thats out so was going to run tomorrow but forgot im giving blood in the evening. Can I run in the afternoon and give blood about 1hr later I know its not advised to run after but before will be ok wont it?

Blatherskite · 27/03/2014 17:07

Running before donating should be fine.

A always find myself struggling if I run too soon afterwards but it shouldn't affect giving blood afterwards I wouldn't think.

ThursdayLast · 27/03/2014 17:25

Thank you for giving blood!
You're my hero Smile

cinnamongreyhound · 27/03/2014 17:53

I ran this morning 6-7 and gave blood at 2 today and was fine so I reckon you'll be ok just make sure you drink lots!!! I usually drink a bottle of water as soon as I'm home then a cuppa but I have been drinking a lot more than normal today. Dreading my Sunday run though!

youbethemummylion · 27/03/2014 17:55

:-) Thursday you are very welcome :-)
I thought before would be ok I just started to wonder if I had missed something in all that bunf they give you to read.

originalpiratematerial · 27/03/2014 19:15

mummylion bravo for giving blood. I would like to but I am not allowed to, because I have palpitations. It makes me sad - I used to be a donor but I don't believe i will ever be allowed to donate again.

Anyway - on a cheerier note, I had a fab run today. PB one mile time of 8 mins 42 seconds and PB five mile time of 50 mins 59 seconds, both of which I am chuffed with! Lovely route, I go down Chancery Lane, through the Temple, down to the Embankment, run to Westminster Bridge, back and run as far as St Pauls, then a winding route through EC4 back to the gym to stretch and shower (conveniently the gym is underneath my office).

Dharmalovesdraco · 27/03/2014 19:39

I was supposed to head out tonight but DH delayed and won't get in until 8.15-8.30 and tbh that's just too late considering my run is meant to be 45mins. I'm shattered and just don't think I can face it :(

I haven't given blood in an age as I'm never sure if I'm eligible due to permenantly suffering with anaemia, can never seem to get a definitive answer....

cinnamongreyhound · 27/03/2014 20:45

I had to stop donating for a year as id become anaemic without realising while losing weight so I'd guess it's not ok Dharmalovesdraco.

holmessweetholmes · 27/03/2014 21:01

Hello all. I think I made a brief appearance on the last thread but have hardly been running lately. Went out this evening fir the first time in a while and feel so much better for it! I finish my current job next Friday and will be a lady of leisure for a while, so am planning do lots more running soon. Am inspired by all your efforts and hope to hang out on the thread a bit!

ThursdayLast · 27/03/2014 22:18

Thank you to you too cinnamon Grin

Original, I don't know London well at all, but just your description of your route sounds lovely.
Americans would get v excited Wink

Hi holmes!

EATmum · 27/03/2014 22:59

hey all.`Dharma, they check your blood iron levels before they'll let you donate - through my twenties I was often unable to donate for that reason, though I was technically fine it was borderline and legally they couldn't let me donate. Since being an old bint, I seem to have more iron, so these days I never get to skip the actual donation and go straight for the biscuits like I used to!

Yeehaw · 28/03/2014 07:14

I am going to try and run 5k today. I will let myself walk once maybe twice briefly
There. Now I've written it I have to do it, right Smile

TessTackle · 28/03/2014 07:46

Morning all. Yeehaw I'm checking in to force mysf to run too, first time with this sore leg. Good luck with your 5k!

How many miles are in a k?!

cinnamongreyhound · 28/03/2014 08:09

1 mile is about 1.6k :)

TessTackle · 28/03/2014 08:22

Thanks Cinnamon :)

HaPPy8 · 28/03/2014 08:51

First run this morning in 8 days. Feel a bit like ive lost my running mojo but forced myself out and did enjoy it, even the light rain. Slow, but glad i went.
