As the first thread ( www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/1948631-Is-there-a-general-running-thread? ) is now pretty much full time for a new one.

Thread for anyone who runs no matter how fast or slow or how long you run for to discuss all things running!

Go for it Thursday and pirate. Although hills don't sound like a good idea to me re sports bras, I have almost nothing to move about (think B cup at a push if you were in a generous mood) but all my osteopath buddies tell me that it's really important to wear one as you can't really do much to get it back when it's gone as BF three DDs has proven

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 25/03/2014 00:00

Just on summer running garb, I have a couple of running skirts - they have built in cycling shorts underneath, so modesty is preserved, and they chafe less than running shorts IME

Im nervous for my run tonight! Since leaving the safety of the gym ive been running on the cliffs where there is only the odd dog walker however the route is no longer long enough and the uneven surface not good for my ankles.

So tonight I shall be running about 7 -8k of the 10k race route. There will be people and cars driving past and I shall look like a red sweaty fool! Also im still having to do run/walk intervals as just cant run without those 2min rests. So everytime im walking I shall look even more foolish!

I can feel me talking myself out of this today!

cinnamongreyhound · 25/03/2014 09:49

You're doing more than they are in their cars youbethemummylion! Don't worry about how you look enjoy your run and perhaps it will push you to get past that mental barrier of having to stop Wink

feetheart · 25/03/2014 10:49

I thought the 'red, sweaty' look was compulsory although the only fools will be those not out running :)

Go for it youbethemummylion

Sirzy · 25/03/2014 10:51

Only managed 2.2km today - but averaged 6 min 20 per km which I am happy with :) will convert it into miles later!

Holy moly I took a bit of an exploring run today and ended up running 10.75 miles!
What the f**k. I did not think I was capable of that.
Sirzy, your pace is picking up isn't it?
Yoube, I find the best thing is sticking in some headphones, listen to something funny and before you know it, you'll have stopped noticing people Smile

Yeehaw · 25/03/2014 11:10

what do you listen to when you run? I made a running mix on spotify but find myself getting bored with it quite quickly. It would be good to listen to 'something funny' as Thursdaylast says but what?

Sirzy · 25/03/2014 11:22

yes, i think its picking up more because I can run without stopping for longer though! Just checked and it was 6 min 22 seconds per km average which works out at about 10 min 14 per mile. So close to breaking that 10 min mile mark!

I have no idea what half the songs on my ipod are - my friend who is a runner sends me running tracks via whatsapp and by the time they are onto my ipod they are just a stream of letters rather than a name! I could sing them to you but not say what they are called!

I use podcasts, mostly from R4 with Confessions and Fighting Talk thrown in Grin

Yeehaw · 25/03/2014 11:34

podcasts very good idea

now how to work this with an android phone...

Sirzy · 25/03/2014 11:38

I like the idea of podcasts might look for some later

I just used to put my music on my phone on shuffle but did get annoyed at times with it! When I was training for my first hm I knew I wouldn't be allowed music for the actual race so got used to running without music and now I never have anything. I probably sing to myself though but mostly just running through stuff I have to do or replaying things in my mind!

Yeehaw · 25/03/2014 12:06

yes I quite like running with nothing. except the oprah winfrey a like telling me how far I have run (runkeeper)

Mitchy1nge · 25/03/2014 12:28

I can't listen to anything while running, except my own breathing and footfall (and whatever is going on)

wish I could because hardly ever seem to have opportunities to play whatever music I want

CQ · 25/03/2014 13:14

Sitting shivering and tired today and really should get out and run. It's SO cold and wet. I had my lunch at 11.45 in an attempt to warm up! Might take the dogs for a drag in a minute - I'll come back warm but they'll be wet and smelly and I've just cleaned the house Hmm

RainToday radar looks like it might be brightening up so perhaps I'll do a couple more jobs and then head out. Motivation rock bottom today.

cinnamongreyhound · 25/03/2014 13:19

Come on CQ, go out you'll feel better for it!!

ThursdayLast · 25/03/2014 13:57

Come on CQ.
Think how satisfying it is to come back on here to report Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 25/03/2014 14:01

And well done ThursdayLast for your distance and Sirzy on your improved pace :)

ThursdayLast · 25/03/2014 15:03

Thank you cinnamon Smile

youbethemummylion · 25/03/2014 17:18

So I feel much better now ive done my run. No one paid much attention to me I ran my fastest 5k yet and only stopped at 8k cos it was time to get DS from football. I could have run further and that feels so good!

ThursdayLast · 25/03/2014 17:30

Is it just me who when they've done a good time/distance start to think their Garmin must be faulty? Ive Just been mapping my run on Mapmyrun to check the distance was correct!
