As the first thread ( www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/1948631-Is-there-a-general-running-thread? ) is now pretty much full time for a new one.

Thread for anyone who runs no matter how fast or slow or how long you run for to discuss all things running!

Good Luck Eat! We await the race report.

Just been out for a 7k with 3/4 minute hill climb at the end. Trying to slow my pace during training as I know I'm always tempted to go too fast. I blame my Garmin. It's made me too conscious of what pace I'm doing and if I think I'm in for a chance of a PB I tend to go for it. (not a good idea if I want to stay injury free). At least hills force you to slow down and are a great workout for the quads.

Currently being very good and icing my knees

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 22/03/2014 22:27

I hope it goes well EAT!

Good luck to the 10K'ers as well.

Itchy feet here - life has got in the way of running this week.

thefemaleJoshLyman · 22/03/2014 22:34

Good luck EAT!

Sorry you are feeling poorly spacechimp.

EauRouge · 23/03/2014 06:53

Good luck, EAT! You'll be fine. Good luck to all those doing Sport Relief races. We're only doing a mile but I ecpect I'll be carrying DD2 for most of it Grin

Dharmalovesdraco · 23/03/2014 08:43

Good luck Eat!!!

Sirzy · 23/03/2014 09:19

I need to run this afternoon - I haven't been out all week and am getting a bit grumpy. I thought it was because I have been a bit stressed and busy this week, but I've just realised that the lack of running is probably contributing to my grumpiness Grin. So I'm going to whizz through my very long to-do list for this morning so I can fit in a run later.

Tiredemma · 23/03/2014 11:23

Hi all- can I just ask

Im training for a Half Marathon (Bham one in October)- on non running days what exercise would you suggest?

thanks

Dharmalovesdraco · 23/03/2014 11:43

Hi Tiredemma my sister who is marathon training does a mixture of spinning, pilates, swimming and general gym stuff.

I tried to do Jillian's 'Ripped in 30' on my non run days, I couldn't move without pain for 3 days after Wink must try again.....

Mitchy1nge · 23/03/2014 13:07

hi tiredemma, anything that you enjoy and find yourself looking forward to doing must be best? I think walking is seriously underrated as a counterpart to running, but obviously weight training is great, swimming, cycling, yoga. Horse riding I am convinced) is great for your core and for fucking with your leg muscles in unexpected ways!

Mitchy1nge · 23/03/2014 13:09

lack of running is bad for me mentally too, my mood slides slowly down and stops at the brink of total apathy

if I can't or shouldn't run I can sort of top up by walking or riding instead but it's not exactly the same and I find myself evaluating every route for a potential run at some point

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 23/03/2014 13:20

Same here Mitchy. When I'm running regularly I feel better, eat better, sleep better...it's a virtuous circle Smile

I WILL get out later, although I'm glad I stayed indoors to do my jobs - it's just been hailing here Shock

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 23/03/2014 13:22

And in the interests of apathy busting, was it on this thread that there was talk of meeting up for a run at Grafham Water at some point? I drove past the sign on Friday and it reminded me.

Sirzy · 23/03/2014 13:26

Tired, on my non running days i just try to do something! I do bootcamp sessions a few times a week and otherwise its weights/kettlebells/powerhoop and i am just starting some yoga workouts too.

I am the same as others with running, feel really sluggish if i don't go out for a few days. This cold is driving me mad because it just won't clear. WIll be going out tomorrow n o matter wht though

Mitchy1nge · 23/03/2014 13:27

I would love to do that!

I don't know how far away I am in mid suffolk but I bet it's easily driveable and I think I deserve a treat of running somewhere new - I spy on everyone on Garmin connect and toy with the idea of driving out somewhere I've never been before for a run Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 23/03/2014 13:31

I think I may have lost my garmin

I left a bag on the train last week with my running gear and some clothes. I thought I had lost my treasured marathon tee-shirt, but that was still in the drawer. But I can't find my garmin, so suspect I popped it in the bag. I was rushing around getting ready, so can't remember clearly.

Mitchy1nge · 23/03/2014 13:33

nooooooooo!

Sirzy · 23/03/2014 13:35

i have just planned a 10k run. Looks so far when i actually think about the route

On non running days I take the dog on a VERY long walk she hates me for it! Then on an evening I do boxing on the Wii and my arms hate me too!

chaosmonkey · 23/03/2014 14:45

Hello everyone.

I am shamelessly posting here even though I don't deserve to, but I thought you may be best placed to advise me...

I started doing C25K and got to w3 d3, and was loving it, but then came down with a terrible cough/cold, and not been able to run for a week.

When can I start running again? I am still coughing and snotty, but don't feel like death, - do I wait till I've totally stopped coughing? or should I have a go at an earlier week?

thanks - and grovels for stealing onto a thread for proper runners...

Sirzy · 23/03/2014 14:49

Chaos - everyone is welcome on here, I am certainly not a proper runner to the standard of some on here!

I would be tempted to go back a week and see how you get on - if you struggle you can always drop to a walk.

I have had the same issue and hoping tomorrow to just get out and do something to get going again!

Went out this morning in freezing rain , wearing vest, long sleeved top and gloves...finished in just the vest as the sun came out and I was boiling! 5.1 miles/8.5k again but 2 mins faster today, 51 mins. Really chuffed. And I felt pretty comfortable most of the way round, though I still always want to lie down and die from 1/2 mile to the 2 mile mark!

Fishandjam · 23/03/2014 15:24

Hello chaos! I'm not a proper runner either Smile. Re cough/cold, I'm sure I've read somewhere that if you only feel crap from the neck up, you're ok to run. If you feel crap anywhere from the neck down, it's better to wait until you're recovered. But I guess if you feel like running, go running and take it gently.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 23/03/2014 15:28

^What Fishandjam said Smile

EATmum · 23/03/2014 15:29

Hi everyone, I'm here for my debrief. So I ran my HM this morning and survived; so that is my goal achieved. It was freezing at the start and end, very busy (Richmond HM - I'd guessed at a couple of hundred people but there were thousands) and very long - but manageable. I never felt like I had to stop running and walk (which I knew from experience could throw everything off for me), although I had nothing in reserve for a last minute sprint - more like a last minute lurch. I'm not sure of my time yet but guessing at somewhere around 2:20. Very very happy now to have had a (fantastic) hot bath and to be sat on my sofa with a cup of tea and a glow of smug satisfaction. Thank you all for your support and good wishes - much appreciated. Grin
