The half marathon went well thank you spacechimp. I was absolutely petrified of doing it as I hadn't run longer than 7 miles since I tore my calf in early November last year and had had various illnesses and niggles in the meantime which had made training hard so I knew it was going to be very hard work. On the day, it wasn't as bad as I had expected and I pretty much sailed through up until about 7 miles. Between 7 and 8 went well but felt like 3 or 4 miles rather than just the one and then I was OK again up until the course started going uphill at mile 11 and then it got really hard and I got really, really miserable. I managed to run all but the huge-est of hills and finished 2 seconds under my PB for the distance at 2:13:32.
The heat didn't help as obviously all training I'd done had been in the cold and wet and all of a sudden it was about 19 degrees and baking hot and I was having to pour water over my head to cool me down! The support from the crowds and one of my running clubs was amazing though. One of my friends even turned up in running gear and did the last 5k with me which was really nice. There were loads of hugs at the end even though I was feeling rather shell shocked and then we all met up at the pub in our t-shirts and medals that evening and thoroughly dissected our runs without boring any non runners too much
Support from my other club was really lacking but at least helped me to finally make the decision to leave. Who knew swapping clubs was so complicated though!
I missed seeing OhOne there which was a shame but I'm sure I'll catch up with her again soon.
I've got 3 more halves booked for this year. One small local one in 5 weeks, the NSPCC one in July and the Nottingham half in September so hopefully now the first one is out of the way, I can stay healthy and injury free for long enough to get some proper training in and can improve on my time for the others.
