oh no Tomasz, you poor thing. I hope you get it sorted :(

everylittlestep · 24/01/2014 11:17

I've just done w1r2 and feel great again. I'm so shocked how much I like it (so far!) as never run before, though I'm sure I'll like it less as it gets harder.

I'm glad I chose the nhs app, as that seems to be the most encouraging and I need all the help I can get.

Got a full day planned Sunday from 9am onwards, but contemplating going for next 'run' at 7.30am - that depends how many vinos I quaff on Saturday I suppose...

Hope you're feeling ok Tomasz - must have been scary!

MissBetseyTrotwood · 24/01/2014 13:05

Tomasz how horrible. Take a break and get your achey self better.

Did W2R3 today and it felt better than last time. Even when I got a call from our Estate Agent half way through to say that our house sale was probably falling through due to our buyer's lender pulling out.

Well done all! Let's keep it up! Smile

tinypumpkin · 24/01/2014 19:49

Sorry to hear that Tomasz, what a PITA. Hope you can take it easy for a bit.

Yay for Celia, 8 mins of running is impressive :)

That sounds tricky Dizzy, not sure what to suggest.

Sorry to hear about your house Betsey, that sounds crappy.

knitknack · 25/01/2014 15:56

Well done everyone :D keep going!

It was lovely to run in daylight today. Did 23 mins (the zenlabs app week 6 day 3 I think) and have discovered that the zenlabs app 'talks' to myfitnesspal and adds the exercise for me, which I'm stupidly excited about! I keep adding new songs to my 'running' playlist on spotify too (have made my own now) all of which is keeping me engaged with it all.

hotdog74 · 25/01/2014 18:34

week 3 run 2 for me today. It's great that we are all keeping it up, and I can't wait until I can do something like 20 mins because then I think I can say that I am a runner :-)

Was ok today, but my lower back has been hurting for a few days (nothing to do with running) so I was surprised that it actually felt better when I was running - Guess I'll just have to run everywhere! :-)

Keep up the good work ladies.........

MissBetseyTrotwood · 25/01/2014 19:02

Ah yes it's crappy alright.

But W3R1 tomo and am looking forward to it!

Go us!!!

neepsandtatties · 26/01/2014 10:49

W2r2 done! Getting easier each time!

Keep up the good work everyone!

CeliaLytton · 26/01/2014 12:58

Hotdog I was looking forward to calling myself a runner when I can do 20 mins but I slow down so much towards the end, I think I will have to concede that I am a fast walker Grin

I missed yesterday because DH had to work so I skipped w5r1 and went straight to w5r2, 8 mins running, 5 mins walking then another 8 mins running, and I did it! I think I have made a breakthrough, as when she told me I had finished I decided to carry on running til I got to the bridge up ahead and did an extra 2.5 mins, during which my legs didn't even hurt when they had been aching all the way through the run, so I think it is psychological for me. Th next step is 20 mins running in one go which seems a big jump from 2x8 mins... Knit, how did you deal with the difference?

Got home and DH and the kids out so then did jillian michaels ripped in 30, desperate to see some results so I don't quit. I have lost nearly a stone since starting this 4 weeks ago but I was so overweight, I still feel massive. Am quite tempted to but a pair of skinny jeans in size 12, is that really stupid? Any other ideas for motivation?

Celia, I did W5 R3 yesterday and it wasn't as hard as I thought it would be. I did get a bit tired at around the 15 minute mark and my brain was telling me that a nice walk would do instead but when Laura announced only 2 minutes to go I got my second wind and sprinted ran faster to the end plus a bit extra. I feel weirdly disappointed that W6 R1 is back to shorter runs (but I'll get over it Smile).

knitknack · 26/01/2014 16:00

Celia I did exactly what you describe as your breakthrough! I just didn't want to stop running so I carried on and on (and ended up face down in a puddle! he he he)

WRT the jump to 20 mins, we just did it (and it wasn't totally pleasant!). The next day I did 2 x 10 mins with a 2 min break in between (so I freestyled a bit!)

And ahem, the shred ON TOP OF THE RUNNING?! I bow down! :)

Although I did do an hour of badminton before my run on Friday night.

No run for me today - i had to go into our nearest city following DH's large bowl of spaghetti sauce meeting my macbook pro last night.... sigh. I may have slipped into sports direct and spent a small fortune on karimor products (am now the proud owner of a luminous yellow running jacket and some groovy running tights (in an optimistic size 10). Also bought DH a running top and some socks. Am dying to try them all out now so might drag DH out later...

Hope everyone's had a lovely weekend!

ShineyBlackShoes · 26/01/2014 16:03

Just done my last 30 min jog on the C25k programme. I can only do 3k mind so am pathetically slow.
I have beens suffering from shin splints so took a week off and it has helped my shins but it has done nothing for my fitness: I really struggled on the last few mins.
Guess trying to keep up 3 times a week exercise is my next goal and then maybe see if I can speed up a little so I can eventually manage 5k...not holding my breath though...I take fairy steps and had no idea how you are meant I stride.

MissBetseyTrotwood · 26/01/2014 17:12

Almost certainly, defo clocked another C25Ker on my run today. Slightly beginnerish looking (like me, not all you lot obv!) and walking/running and with the earphones in. We grinned at each other. Anyone else seen any other suspects?

By 'eck, 8 mins run seems so far away right now! 3 mins on Week 3 is all I can manage and I'm so proud of getting this far. It just seems almost unbelieveable that that barrier will keep being pushed back...

tinypumpkin · 26/01/2014 19:53

I have seen other 'suspects' too MissBetsey :) Love the fact that you grinned at each other.

Glad to hear all is going well. I am enjoying the zenness of 'running' (walking in my case, my run is so slow!)

I purchased some new trainers as mine are beyond ancient, I had them when I left home. I am not in my 20s shall we say!

knitknack · 26/01/2014 20:11

Love the sound of new shoes! I only bought mine at Christmas and am already lusting after some karimor ones I saw today..

I had to post again because DH and I have just got back on an utter HIGH from our first 25 mins!! But, a similar thing happened as happened at 8 mins that Celia mentioned above and I DIDN'T WANT TO STOP! (DH made me). As usual the first 4-5 of the run were really hard and I almost gave up and then after 10 or so mins I feel like I could keep going forever (the banging music helps, I run in time). So - wow. I seriously cannot believe this but am LOVING it :)

MissBetseyTrotwood · 26/01/2014 20:34

Celia, I'm motivating myself with the (distant) thought that one day I might be able to run a Macmillan half marathon. I don't like the 'let's show cancer who's boss'/fight rhetoric that surrounds Race for Life so that's not for me but I'd love to do one for Macmillan. I'd like my DCs to see me crossing the line.

It's a long way off tho.

dizzyday07 · 26/01/2014 21:17

we have had a houseful of family and i was hoping to sneak out between some leaving and others coming but didnt manage it! tomorrow is my swimming day so dont know if i will have the energy for running too. well done everyone for your great efforts.

funchum8am · 26/01/2014 22:10

Wow everyone is doing so well and properly enjoying it in several cases! I did w4 r1 today and felt great, no twinges from a couple of dodgy groin/calf problems that were bothering me and I am really excited about managing 5 min runs. I need to be on here more often to stay motivated - y11 parents eve this week means I need to alter my routine but I am determined to start w5 this weekend. Knit, Celia you are doing so well, and everyone else too - happy running everyone Grin

knitknack · 27/01/2014 08:59

I had year 11 parents' eve a couple of weeks ago - it was my first night 'off' from running! :)

hotdog74 · 27/01/2014 14:27

Hi all,

Celia - 20 minutes at any speed is definitely running to me :-)

Did week 3 run 3 today. it was ok but still have a niggly back that has nothing to do with running and hurts most when I am sat down Confused
hoping it gets better very soon!

So onwards and upwards to week 4 on Weds and 5 minutes non stop - hope "Laura" is VERY encouraging :-)

Keep up the good work ladies....

funchum8am · 27/01/2014 21:25

Hotdog you are one run from where I am and I actually found w4r1 surprisingly doable. Five minutes is long enough to stop wondering when the next walk is coming and just let your mind wander and it actually felt like I had "been for a run" rather than done a lot of listening to an app, iykwim. I hope you find it fun!

Knit, I would rather go straight to w9r3 than do parents' eve but it has to be done!

everylittlestep · 28/01/2014 11:20

Everyone seems so committed to this! I think the apps definitely help with the motivation, rather than trying to time yourself.

I actually got up before 7am on Sunday to fit in my w1r3, as had a full day planned - it was amazing to watch the sun coming up while I was out there.

Just completed w2r1!

knitknack · 28/01/2014 17:59

Just finished week 7 run 2 - another 25 mins... not going to lie, it was hard tonight. I'm fighting off a cold and kept having to do revolting things with my nose! But as usual, once I got passed the first 10 mins I was fine (wanted to die during those first 10 however). Still can't figure out WHY it's like that... but it is.

I dragged another teacher colleague out last night and we did w1 r1 together. It really brought it home to me how far we've come, thinking back to when I first did it and the second 60 sec run nearly killed me!

MissBetseyTrotwood · 28/01/2014 18:50

Missed my W3R2 tonight; house sale defo fallen through and dental infection after a filling last week. Can't face it; feel exhausted and have to accompany a school trip with DS2 tomorrow. Back to dentist Thursday along with major SN review and home visit for DS2 Thurs pm. And have to get house 'show home' ready for Friday lunchtime. Sad

Running would really help with all that but there's just not time...
