Hi everyone. I thought we could do with a new shiny thread.

All runners are welcome here :)

A massive well done to all runners this week. I managed to get out today and did 3.5 miles in 32 minutes. It made me feel slightly less guilty about missing parkrun on Saturday (although it is the first since August so not too bad).

That's a brilliant time OhOne. Well done. Very jealous of your trip.

Off for a 12 mile run myself now. The tidying from half term will have to wait

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 04/11/2013 10:15

Morning all! I finished c25k a week ago and have started the 5+ podcasts now.

I've registered for Parkrun and have even printed out my bar codes. I'm planning on trying my closest one (about 30 minute drive away) on Saturday.

I'm 37 and have never been a runner but I really want to get fitter and running seems to be the only thing that can fit in around everyone else's activities? I'm aiming for sub 30 minutes eventually, but think it might take me a few weeks to get my pacing sorted out.

The more people I tell, the more likely I am to actually give it a go!

cinnamongreyhound · 04/11/2013 11:36

Hi IwishIwasmoreorganised, you definitely have to go now you've posted on two threads Wink

IsThatTrue · 04/11/2013 12:03

Hi everyone!

Sorry I've been so crap at keeping up recently, real life has majorly got in the way. I only managed 2 runs last week which I'm very unhappy about. But DH goes tomorrow too so I think parkrun is out of the question now, I can't push ds2s buggy through mud. So I will be back on the 23rd.

But as a plus all my runs will he with the buggy for 3 weeks which is pretty hard work. I did 6 miles yesterday morning, ds2 slept and I averaged 10 minute miles which is great as I did a hilly route.

Well done on your marathon ohone

That's fantastic IsThatTrue! Can't imagine doing 10 min/miles with a buggy, especially for 6 miles Grin

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 04/11/2013 13:45

Welcome IwishGrin Look forward to hearing how you get on on SaturdayGrin

Hats off to IsThat on your buggy runningSmile

I appear to be able to walk, sit and stand todayGrin . Am a bit stiff but no worse than after half marathons I've done in the past.

cinnamongreyhound · 04/11/2013 14:20

Yay! That's great OhOneOhTwoOhThree, off sightseeing you go Grin

IsThatTrue · 04/11/2013 15:45

Thanks cinnamon and ohone tbh I don't find the buggy particularly hard until there's a hill/headwind, then it's a bugger. But I do notice how easy it is to run without the buggy after!

ohone yay to sitting standing and walking! I hope you are feeling proud of yourself :)

For some reason I decided that after a manic half term and weekend, the best idea would be to run 12.8 miles this morning. Then we got a bit lost and I ended up having to get a taxi from part way round the route in order to be able to pick DD up from pre school on time. Not quite the stress busting activity I'd hoped for!

cinnamongreyhound · 04/11/2013 21:57

Oh no rubbish!

BlathAarghZombieBite · 04/11/2013 22:04

Tomorrow, DD and I are having a nice quiet day at home Wink

rosy71 · 05/11/2013 09:20

Hi, I've been reading these threads for a while now.

I've done 2 Parkruns so far: 31.22 for the first and 31.20 for the second. Unfortunatley, I've been ill for the past week so couldn't do this week's an haven't been able to do any other running. Sad My aim is to get below 30 minutes.

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/11/2013 10:12

Welcome rosySmile Hope you will be better by the weekend

Hope you are having a nice restful day Blathers after yesterday's dramasGrin

SonorousBip · 05/11/2013 12:53

My local parkrun is both very big and very fast. I think the fastest is usually in the 15 minute range - the guy who does that is a friend of a friend, and if he runs he regularly knocks out 15 minute odd 5ks Shock.

My pb is 26:27 and that does not put me in the top 200 usually. Shock.

I may need to look for somewhere gentler!

Actually I love it. my new years resolution was to do a parkrun a month - done so far including November - and to take my pb down below 27 mins - it was 27:20 odd at the beginning of the year so I am a minute down and very pleased with my self!! I will be 50 next summer and would really like to have a pb that starts with a 25 by then.

IsThatTrue · 05/11/2013 13:28

Welcome rosy I hope you feel better soon

sonourous your parkrun sounds amazing! And well done onon you time. My pb is 27.15 and I really want to get it to 26 something but I can't parkrun until DH is home from India in 3 weeks.

Just did 5.7 miles with the buggy. 10.07/mile. 6 seconds/mile faster than Sunday morning. It felt much much harder today though.

blathers that sounds like a stressful run. I hope a rest day helps.

Last marathon post from me and then I will stop boring everyone. DH will be home soon and I can bore him instead Grin.

I've got my splits from Sunday now. For some reason (I think it must have been when I stopped to use the loo) my pace dropped from just under 11 minute miles to a 15 minute mile for mile 11-12. I do remember stopping and having to queue for a little bit (I got chatting to a Frenchman, who recognised my charity vest and was telling me that his son had the same condition). I made myself have a gel at that point as well because I'd been taking on gatorade at every fluid stop but using gels in training, despite advice not to do anything different on race day. My half time was 2:28:07 - not a PB, I wasn't really expecting one, but was kinda hopeful Smile. My pace in the second half was pretty steady, ranging from 11:14 to 11:27 (getting progressively slower - the last three miles were uphill Shock).

I'm now battling with myself between "never again" and "wouldn't it be good to do another one and try to knock a bit off my time" Grin.

IsThatTrue · 05/11/2013 19:07

ohone your marathon talk is not boring at all! I am still very much in awe. I'm only slightly quicker than that for a 6 mile run! I just can't imagine 26! You have done amazingly and should be very proud of yourself. I feel proud of you. (Although writing that down it sounds a little internet stalkery Hmm)

Trying to decide if I want to run tomorrow. So far I've only run every other day (ish, normally tues thurs sat) to let my body recover , mainly because I'm still bfing ds2 and initially had some aching in my joints, which a friend (who is a running instructor for post natal ladies) said could be due to my body retaining the relaxin from pregnancy ( due to continued bfing). So do I risk running a couple of days in a row? It just gives me a break as ds2 sleeps. ( which is an increasingly rare event ) and as DH is going to be away for so long I think I'll need that break each day.

Sorry for rambling, non runners just don't understand how going out can be quite so stress relieving.

OP posts:
cinnamongreyhound · 05/11/2013 19:32

Personally I'm fascinated and bewildered by your marathon talk OhOneOhTwoOhThree but I had a moments wobble when I saw that chase the place was down to 16,000 people and I'm pretty sure I'll be parkrunning each week it's running, but no I really don't have time Confused

Just think if you injure yourself how annoyed you'd be IsThatTrue? Personally I have run on consecutive days but never more than 2 together.

BlathAarghZombieBite · 05/11/2013 20:46

I've enjoyed my rest day. I think after being so busy for the whole of half term, I was so tired that I needed a rest day whatever happened. Another early night and I should be back and ready for track tomorrow night

OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/11/2013 21:35

IsThat - I have been running T/W/Th and Sat/Sun without too many ill effects Smile (but my baby is 12, so I stopped b/f about 11 years ago). Maybe just do a short slow one if you go out at all?

Blathers - glad you had the day off. Enjoy track tomorrow. Still on for Saturday?

Blatherskite · 05/11/2013 21:49

I just checked, track is next week not this! Ah well, I might go to the Sweatshop run instead.

Still on for Saturday. I've just ordered all the stuff to make the cakes Grin

IsThatTrue · 05/11/2013 21:57

ohone I think I will do a short slowish one, I've gotta go to sort some things at the new house anyway so I can run there and then do a loop (it's only 1/2 a mile away). I'm hoping in the last 5 months I've built my core up enough that I can run on successive days. I can't run at the weekends at the moment anyway so at most it will be tues/weds/thurs/fri with a rest sat/sun.

I'm really excited for your MN parkrun meetup ohone and blathers I wish I was closer to others!

oooooH - I didn't realise there was a Parkrun thread - adding to my watching threads! Grin

I've been doing my local one since June - now done 15.

Hope this thread will kept my motivation going. My pb is 34.16 - want to get to under 30 (but need to lose weight first) Wink Knocked 4 mins off since I started so progressing! Smile

IsThatTrue · 05/11/2013 22:04

Welcome hotmama I started in August and have done 12 now. Getting under 30 minutes is amazing, you'll get there in no time. When I started I was 3 1/2 stone heavier than now and my pb was 33.20, it's now 27.15. And I think a lot of that is down to weight. A fellow runner once told me that each 1/2 stone you lose takes 30 seconds off your time. Good luck :)

OP posts:
OhOneOhTwoOhThree · 05/11/2013 22:23

3.5 stone IsThat? Wow, amazing weight loss! How old is your DS2?

I have lost about a stone this year through running, and taken about a minute and a half off my 5K time, so that rule of thumb works. I think I've plateau-ed now though Smile
