Well done Starlight. How far have you been running in the first week?

FeliciaHardy · 10/01/2014 09:46

W1r2 done. Did it comfortably too so going to skip to week2 on mon instead of doing r3. Last time round I enjoyed the 2nd week more than the first.

I had completely forgot I had planned a run this morning, it wasn't until I was getting dressed and saw my running clothes and thought 'noooo'. I made myself do it and glad I did Smile

lookout · 10/01/2014 09:57

Good work starlight! Even though it was horrible you got through it which is brilliant. Keep at it, it will get easier Smile

lookout · 10/01/2014 09:58

And well done too Felicia. Good luck on week 2!

StarlightMcKingsThree · 10/01/2014 10:59

Faithless, I don't know how far I have been running. I expect not far as I run VERY slowly, possibly slower than I brisk walk, and I only go round and round the block (sometimes I change blocks) as I can't cope with crossing roads with earphones on.

Faithless12 · 10/01/2014 12:07

I don't blame you, I crossed two roads today on my run. I think I need to change my route to avoid it while running.

cinnamongreyhound · 10/01/2014 12:28

I had a loop I used to do three times when I started, was annoyed as I got further into the plan and I needed to find another as I couldn't bear the thought of a fourth! I run with one headphone only if I have them, ended up modifying mine by cutting one off :)

Well done everyone! I've been doing some thread avoidance cos I've also been avoiding running! Life's just got in the way the past few days. I'm going to go tonight though, I'm not sure whether to repeal w6r1 seeing as I didn't finish it on tues or just skip to r2? I'm quite looking forward to it though!

originalpiratematerial · 10/01/2014 17:48

Well done Starlight!

UsedToBeNDP · 10/01/2014 18:23

Good luck AllFurCoat!

SarahWithAFringeOnTop · 10/01/2014 18:29

Oh dear, I think someone had dipped my shoes in treacle today, I just couldn't seem to get it together! It was S L O W and painful Sad For all you newer people who were worried about struggling, if it's any consolation I finished the programme about a year ago and there are still odd days I just can't seem to run for 30 min, though other days longer runs are a piece of cake. We all have bad days occasionally and struggle... At least I hope we do and it's not just me! Grin

UsedToBeNDP · 10/01/2014 18:34

sarah, I posted almost the exact same thing on Thursday re hard runs! Sometimes they are just a real slog, aren't they? My run-before-last (!) was a crap one but then followed by a really good one, so swings and roundabouts. Hopefully your next one will be a positive too.

lookout · 10/01/2014 19:13

I'm due a run tomorrow but am in so much pain in my heel since yesterday evening. Have tried to keep off my feet this afternoon but with the kids it's really not easy. Really don't want to lose my rhythm, plus it's the last of three but don't want to make my foot worse. Feeling very dejected.

ShineyBlackShoes · 10/01/2014 19:26

Managed a 12 min run this morning, a 3 min walk and the another 17 mins...slow jogging really not running but I managed and it was cold and crisp and dark and lovely out.

I am currently enjoying this getting up early but sadly because of road works, it will take me so much longer to get into work so I would have to get up stupid early to run. I seem to have more energy in the mornings so might try the gym next week as thee is no hilly bits to jog up ;0)

AllFurCoat · 11/01/2014 09:51

Thanks used! I managed it Grin and it felt so much easier than my first attempt at it! I decided it was best to repeat r1 and I'm glad I did. The only problem is it now doesn't feel right in my head cos I won't be starting a new c25k at the start of next week! I did consider doing r2 today, but it's tipping down and I know I'll needs the rest day.

lookout if it's still hurting, I'd give it a miss today, I know it feels crap to miss a run, but you'll probably only feel worse if you don't make it all the way and if you do yourself more of a mischief! It's 25m for your next one isn't it?

Well done shiney! I wish I could get the energy to go ok the mornings! I have to be out the door by about 6am and there's no way I could drag myself out of bed by then!

CadiM · 11/01/2014 11:39

I attempted my second run of week 3 this morning, all proud of myself for getting up early on a Saturday. Unfortunately the pavements were so icy I gave up a few minutes in and shuffled home like an old woman afraid of breaking her hip which I am . Does anyone use those ice gripping things on their trainers?

lookout · 11/01/2014 14:23

AllFur well done for doing the run. I think you made the right decision in re-doing it. R2 tomorrow? Yes, I should be doing w6r3 next, 25m running and tbh, not even sure I should go tomorrow cos my foot is still sore Sad. Will see how it is in the morning but it might have to carry over to Monday.

Cadi I had a morning like that. It's so frustrating when you're out and have to come back but you don't want to do yourself a mischief. Have heard of those ice things but don't know much about them.

StarlightMcKingsThree · 11/01/2014 14:37

Hi all, going to go out and do W2 r2. Just warning you in advance because no doubt I'll come straight in and whinge about it.

BUT, I know I am so very very far away from 5k but I do feel that being half-ish way through week 2 that I have properly begun something and you lot on here have helped me feel a part of something worthwhile.

Still gonna whinge though.....

StarlightMcKingsThree · 11/01/2014 14:41

I've read the whole 'I hate exercise' thread and changed my attitude to 'I hate exercise, but then I hate brushing my teeth, paying bills, washing up and plenty of other essential maintenance jobs'.

Enjoying it is great but entirely unnecessary, therefore I need to pick the most efficient method, and just opening the front door and getting on with it with no time for dithering, packing bags, catching buses etc. means it is much easier to achieve/stick with. I can also do it immediately when I have decided I am going to, rather than fitting in with timetables.

For these reasons it has been fairly positive.

UsedToBeNDP · 11/01/2014 14:44

Hi starlight. I'm considering going out into the real world today and running w7 r1 on the road (I usually run on a treadmill). The weather is nice here for the first time in ages, it might be good to get out and try outside?

UsedToBeNDP · 11/01/2014 14:47

Starlight, I think it's a necessary evil, exercise (however you choose to work it in to your life). Once you get yourself into a positive frame of mind with it, it's much easier to do, I think. Treating it like a chore makes it feel like a chore and makes it feel harder to run, I do believe that half of the battle is psychological.

UsedToBeNDP · 11/01/2014 17:01

starlight, did you go out?

I did but went to the gym instead. So, wk7 r1 done! hurrah. Although again, it was a hard one, as expected. My issue is never lead legs etc but sometimes I can't seem to get my breathing rhythm right and end up with a stitch and/or gasping a bit Blush - not good.

StarlightMcKingsThree · 11/01/2014 17:07

I don't go out until late. I tend to need a good dinner and a glass of wine in me and to be toasty warm before I can bring myself to do it. My energy levels are so much better after 9ish.

Will do it tonight though. Music was a bit better for week 2.

StarlightMcKingsThree · 11/01/2014 17:09

Well done for your week 7 though. I can't figure out the breathing.

One of the reasons I prefer late is that otherwise I have to hold my breath every time I pass someone so I don't look like a heavy-breathing hyperventilating fool!

HalleLouja · 11/01/2014 18:17

W8 r3 done and it wasn't too bad. Kept going again. Think next week am going for the 5k. Could have done it today but chickened out. As dinner was going to be ready. Am beginning to get into this running a bit more.

Thinking of doing the Whipsnade 10k in June. Anyone fancy joining me?
