Dont stress it Muddy! You are miles off that couch and just need to beat your chimp back into submission. Do you have a running partner? Can you vary your route if you've maybe got a bit stale? Or just run for the pleasure of being out, fresh air with no distractions.

Be kind to yourself. We all get bad runs/ series of runs. If it still bothers you, maybe look at diet/iron levels?

cinnamongreyhound · 24/10/2013 17:15

Could be lots of reasons muddyprints, I struggled after I finished the c25k and I think it was lack of structure and nothing to aim for. Could be timing, how much you've eaten or drunk, you have sped up without realising at the beginning and it's wearing you out so you're struggling then slowing down. I started trying to get to 15 mins and having a few mins walking then running again and then tried to increase the first bit of running again and it didn't take long to be back to 30mins and then increasing speed quite rapidly!

Forgot to report I did W1R2 yesterday and I'm not so achey this time. I don't know if that's because I didn't do yoga afterwards or just as my body is a bit less shocked by it! :) not managed to catch up with the thread yet but I hope everyone is having a good week, and well done on all your running.

nextphase · 24/10/2013 20:17

Ruby do you stretch out after running? That sorted most aches for me. Tho one patch of run/aerobics/run/swim left me knowing I'd done too much.

Muddy I've got the C25K+ podcasts - max 45 mins, but looking at speed or stamina. Worth a look?

I'm still struggling with bird flu a cold. Over 3 weeks now. Feel sooo rubbish, I'm off the the GP to check there is nothing else underlying. Done no exercise for ages.

IwishIwasfuckermoreorganised · 24/10/2013 22:30

Well I've finished c25k tonight with another 4.6k in 30 minutes.

I need to make a plan from here. I'd like to get my 5k time down to 30 minutes (or less!) and like a structured programme where I'm told what to do!!

Any ideas what might follow on well?

Bollard · 24/10/2013 22:49

May I join please Smile. I'm doing Cto5K and did W7R2 yesterday, planning on doing R3 tomorrow. I am really impressed with the programme - I've never been a runner, and 7 weeks ago wouldn't have dreamt that I could run for 25 minutes. I run on the beach, on firm sand, and do it straight after the school run.
How are people measuring their distance (I think that might be a daft question)? Do you just use a pedometer? I've got the podcast on an ancient ipod.

CrystalDeCanter · 25/10/2013 03:02

Well done Bollard, I'm way behind you on wk1 but I have high hopes of being able to run for 25 mins .

I measure my distance by using the Runkeeper App on my iphone - it has built in training schedules - some American woman shouts at me every few minutes Hmm.

I've done quite a bit of walking this week and my hips are starting to ache - right inside the joint. Is it because I is old (45).

MirandaWest · 25/10/2013 09:44

Went running in the rain this morning - not so quick today - did 5k in a bit over 30 min. I did have rain falling into my eyes at one point though so maybe that didn't help (not sure that excuse will work Grin)

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 25/10/2013 11:40

Bollard. I use a free app called distance pinner to plot where I've run.

watchingout · 25/10/2013 13:10

Congratulations on graduating I wish! Grin

originalpiratematerial · 25/10/2013 15:27

I meant to run this morning but have had a stinking headache all day and feel really sinus-y (I know that's not a word) and my heart is doing loads of little fibby runs which is usually a sign I'm coming down with something Hmm

So I'm going to put on my running gear shortly and see how I get on but I'm not expecting great things Confused.

originalpiratematerial · 25/10/2013 15:29

muddy I went through similar after succeeding in getting up to 10 k in June. I did the Guardian beginner runner podcasts but just skipped through the bits that were too easy - I thoroughly recommend this because you are still doing proper exercise but you will feel a sense of achievement, rather than feeling downcast because you don't do a speedy 5 km every time. It has worked for me, anyway!

Bollard · 25/10/2013 16:53

Thanks Iwish and Crystal. I'm going to download a few and see which one I get along with best.
W7R3 today, gorgeous weather and I felt I was running super fast, but according to endomondo (today's app!) I ran 3km in 25mins. I think 5k in 30 minutes is quite a long way off. I'm intimidated impressed with some of the speeds on this thread.

originalpiratematerial · 25/10/2013 17:05

I am trying not to get too fixated by the 5 km in 30 mins thing - I did loads of running last winter and spring, got a lot fitter, built up to running 10 k but I STILL never did 5 km in 30 mins - my best time was 31 mins 10 seconds.

originalpiratematerial · 25/10/2013 17:06

Anyway I've just been out for a run - I didn't feel very good for the first couple of kilometres and I sweated buckets (although it is very mild here) - but now I'm home and have done some stretches and had a shower, my headache has lifted and I feel much better. Just goes to show!

MirandaWest · 25/10/2013 17:13

Glad the run has helped you feel better pirate.

I think I want to keep doing 5k in under 30 minutes as I know I've done it before. I never feel very quick but I can go quickly right at the end when I know I'm nearly done Grin

MirandaWest · 25/10/2013 17:19

bollard I have a nike plus thing that connects to my iPod nano and tells me how far I've gone. I can set a workout for different times or distances. I have got it on my phone as well but prefer running with my nano as it's lighter and less cumbersome. Need to put some more music on there though Grin

originalpiratematerial · 25/10/2013 18:28

I think I'm going to do 5 k a few more times, and then start a training plan to run a bit further.

nextphase · 25/10/2013 19:33

Bollard I use mapmyrun.com

BerstieSpotts · 25/10/2013 19:41

I did one with DS the other day - he's 5 so has boundless energy. I was dying by the end. I'm still on week 1!

I think I'm going to just repeat week 1 until I can actually do it before I move on Blush I meant to go swimming today but I went to the bank and by the time I got to the swimming pool it was lessons only.

I used a different app when I went with DS and it didn't save any stats at all which was a pain.

Can I ask - those who use phones, where do you keep it? It's been pretty warm here and I get really hot running in a hoodie, but I don't have pockets on my jogging trousers. Probably won't be a problem in a week or so as winter is starting to arrive, but obviously if I'm still running next summer it might be - it can get up to 35 degrees here.

Sort of tempted by an ipod nano, one of the tiny ones, but I wouldn't use it for anything else so it seems a bit of a waste of money. I really like the way that the apps track your progress though and find that really motivating so I don't want to lose it.

MirandaWest · 25/10/2013 19:56

I have a strap that it fits into and goes round my arm.

jchocchip · 25/10/2013 20:06

hiya ruby [grins] Good to see you have made a start on c25k!

I really liked making progress and reporting back to the thread when I was running c25k every other day, nearly two years ago!
I have been out one morning this week and have my music sorted out for parkrun tomorrow, I'm trying to speed up after a couple of months of bursitis. Foot seems to be ok now so looking forward to running more often :)

I have a big phone which won't fit in my running trousers so use a bum bag.

jchocchip · 25/10/2013 20:06

or even Grin

cinnamongreyhound · 25/10/2013 20:23

Hi Bollard, I use endomondo or mapmyrun apps for measuring distance.

BerstieSpotts I zip into my leggings but I did have an armband when I started. Only cost me a few £'s from eBay.

Run always makes me feel better Originalpiratematerial no matter what!

MirandaWest. Can you tell me a bit more about the nikeplus thing please?

I'm clueless when it comes to technology and have no idea what that icon on my iPod nano means!!

Have you got the shoes with the insert thingy in? How do you get the information out of it?
