Today I just couldn't get the Wk 7 podcast to play! So I did the Week 8 one, so that was 30 mins running, 5 km done.

MaireadnotMermaid · 20/10/2013 21:49

Did my first 5k today, charity run, 29.24. Absolutely chuffed. 28th overall out of 71 5kers.

More interestingly, a 10 year old girl came 6th in 22 mins. Future Paula Radcliffe.

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 20/10/2013 22:12

I've just done week 9 run 1. I managed 4.3 kms. I'm a bit disappointed by that but will keep at it until I manage the full 5kms.

Can anyone suggest a programme to graduate to from couch 25k? I don't want to run for longer periods - not sure I'd fit it in so something to keep me interested and getting fitter that lasts 30-40 minutes would be great.

Iwearblack · 20/10/2013 22:20

Well done all you park-runners and sub-30min 5kers! It's my ambition to be able to do a park run this time next year...

Have completed week 7 - so that's 4 x 25 min runs done. It's a struggle but I've done it so bring on week 8 (28 min).

Aldi have running gear in stock at the moment so have bought a glowing gilet to be seen in!

Reiltin · 20/10/2013 23:16

Did w5R1 today. Kinda! As in, I mostly did it properly. But thought, I'll be grand by the end of the week. Then noticed that the next run is different. Longer. 8 minute runs. I'm appalled! I was unprepared for such change! eats chocolate to calm the rising fear. GrinGrinGrin

CrystalDeCanter · 21/10/2013 04:42

Hi there, I'm just starting the C25K - first run/walk will be tonight after work - am in Australia so will post at odd times. I firstly need to get some new trainers as have only got old ones and I assume they're contributing to my sore knees/back etc.

I've just read through some of this thread and it's great to see so many of you doing so well - sub 30 mins!

I'm hoping this will get me fit and healthy and thinner for Christmas.

GrippingArms · 21/10/2013 08:43

W5r1 for me later, not such a shock for me Reiltin as DH has not long finished the programme and I had to get over his shock with him :-D

This is also what might have been called character building way back.

It's always stormy and very wet on the days I'm running.

Still, it's working :)

Good luck to everyone running today

watchingout · 21/10/2013 08:54

Oo a poster from down under Grin you'll be giving us tales of sunshine while we are bemoaning the wind, rain and lack of light mornings!

Iwearblack - you could be park running in a matter of weeks! Wink

Congrats Mairead - very impressive time Grin

Wet and blustery here today ... The couch is looking tempting. Shame I have to go to work.

MirandaWest · 21/10/2013 11:20

That was a wet run Grin. Did 5.03k in 29 min 27 seconds so think I should try and break 29 minutes now. But possibly in slightly drier conditions :)

GrippingArms · 21/10/2013 12:30

Bit blowy eh? I have no idea how far I ran today, followed the podcast to the second though. Was too busy trying not to get blown into the lake!

CrystalDeCanter · 22/10/2013 04:39

Thanks watchingout today was in fact quite warm but really blustery so I've just done my first run in my lunch hour at work, 30 mins along the beach front singing loudly. I felt BRILLIANT when I returned.

Well done those of you running in the rain.

GoodbyeRubyTuesday · 22/10/2013 12:02

Hi,

I started Couch to 5K yesterday (week 1, day 1). I really enjoyed it but I am very achy today. I also had a yoga class in the evening so I don't know if that contributed to my aches! I am planning to run again tomorrow and then Saturday. I have a lovely route, round a lake and all off-road, and I run first thing in the morning so it is a nice way to start the day.

Anyway, I will try and catch up with the previous posts :)

Reiltin · 22/10/2013 12:02

W5R2 done. Easier than I thought it was going to be. Somewhat deflated to see that I covered less ground than run1 but still, have decided I'm awesome Grin
Gripping - good luck with it!

originalpiratematerial · 22/10/2013 16:15

Another 5 km today - I did the first couple of km fast (for me) and nearly died on the fourth one Blush but overall I improved my time a bit.

MaireadnotMermaid · 22/10/2013 19:06

well done everyone running in this weather! I'm aching from Sunday so taking it easy in front of GBBO. Run tomorrow though.

watchingout · 22/10/2013 20:57

No GBBO spoilers please! Just had to taxi for DD so missed the live bit and am trying to chase DS2 off to BED so I can catch up. Very difficult to avoid all media and I really thought the c25k thread would be safe Grin

IwishIwasmoreorganised · 22/10/2013 21:24

I've just run 4.6 kms in 30 minutes for week 9 run 2. I'm feeling very pleased with myself!

cinnamongreyhound · 23/10/2013 20:43

That's great MirandaWest!

Well done IwishIwasmoreorganised, you should feel pleased :)

I saw GBBO result on the doctors thread watchingout Blush

Welcome GoodbyeRubyTuesday, glad you're enjoying it and have a lovely route.

Gripping here

I had a terrible run today, my mind wasn't in it and i'm really fucked off that i stopped around 6 mins on both runs

i'm going to rest up until monday and repeat week 4 i think, i've got a lot on and nursing a wee knee strain. had it checked out by GP on monday, and monday's run was fine, but today was too much

i will carry on though

Reiltin · 23/10/2013 21:26

Gripping, take care of that knee - running is hard on them at the best of times.
I Haven't done my last run of week five yet. It should be tomorrow or Friday but we have a naming day for our baby this weekend and I'm manic with the prep. Add on a teething baby who won't sleep and it's a pain getting anything done! But I must push myself to do it, even if it is scarier than childbirth on Halloween Wink Grin Wink Grin

originalpiratematerial · 23/10/2013 23:03

I "ran" home from work tonight - it took me 39 minutes to run 5.34 km Hmm but it is quite slow running through busy streets and having to stop and wait to cross roads Grin.

CrystalDeCanter · 24/10/2013 02:12

Originalpirate I'd love to be able to run that far that fast!

I'm on wk1 d2 which I managed easily enough then continue with the dog for a longer walk. My legs are aching now though.

I'd also like to add how massively pleased I am with my sports bra. It's so sturdy, and makes such a huge difference. God knows why it's taken me until the age of 45 to buy one.

cinnamongreyhound · 24/10/2013 07:37

I often walk the dogs after a run CrystalDeCanter, it's a good way to loosen everything up. I found I ached after the first two runs when I did c25k but my body got used it it quickly.

Been on our early morning headtorch run today, it's getting less eerie! Clocks go back this weekend so should be lighting at 6.15 again for a few weeks Grin

OP posts:
MirandaWest · 24/10/2013 09:50

Just did another run - was 5.06km in 29:39. Think I started off too fast as I got a stitch around 3.5k which was ouch. But I did keep running so ended up about same average time as Monday. I do want to do 5k in 29 minutes though Grin.

Lovely weather this morning all crisp and sunny :)

Had forgotten about clocks changing - they go back don't they (this puzzles me every 6 months Blush)

muddyprints · 24/10/2013 15:53

finished couch to 5k in august and could run 5k in 33 mins. have run twice a week since doing 5k and managed a parkrun in 31 mins in sept. I am now struggling to run 5k, feel like stopping and crying, legs ache, im shattered, legs feel slow but I cant speed up and its taking me over 33 mins now.
why am I getting worse?
