Welcome back chief.
He has finally picked them up, almost 3 hrs late Angry

peachLFDTsmuggler · 21/12/2011 19:41

Hiya chief, good to see you!

orange, glad he's finally arrived! How lovely for you and DH to have a bit of time together, hope you enjoy!

Oh the irony! Just after I posted I thought Ill put K in her basket and if she wakes up at least I'll have a few minutes to sort stuff. She only fliping stayed asleep and was still asleep 30 minutes later when I had to wake her to change her and put her in sling to go out. Sheesh! When we got to cinema Arthur Christmas was sold out so had to see Puss in Boots instead. K woke up briefly for tiny feed and then went straight back to sleep! Soporific indeed sticky, even DP fell asleep!

liath · 21/12/2011 19:42

Welcome back to chief and good to hear you've got the mojo back.

Rhet I lived near Brisbane for a couple of years, lovely city but we did feel a long way from home so can understand concerns about elderly parents etc. I loved the "work to live rather than live to work" attitude down under.

Ange, that's great news about your dad's scan.

Debi how are your shins doing? My Gammy leg is definitely medial shin splints so I am well hacked off as it was the running club pub run tomight and I'd taken tomorrow morning off in anticipation of going out on the lash. It doesn't't hurt at all to run but starts hurting a few hours after so I'm going to have to stop running for a bit. Grump. I think changing your gait is supposed to help though I'd be worried that changing to a forefoot landing might just cause other problems. I am ludicrously injury-prone though. have you tried pose or chi running?

Well done to the competition winners, what exactly is a SIS nutrition pack?

peachLFDTsmuggler · 21/12/2011 19:42

Poor you DrNo. Agree running club too intense after giving blood, it really takes it out of you, literally. Hope you feel ok today.

peachLFDTsmuggler · 21/12/2011 19:47

Sorry liath, what a pain. Are you having the morning off anyway?

Yes sorry, meant to say great news about your dad's scan Ange

ibby, how sad for your BIL. Am sure they will appreciate the flowers.

Debi, am impressed you have taken your running stuff with you. I just don't have the room in my racksack. Maybe I should have couriered it, like your presents!

orangeLFDThead · 21/12/2011 20:01

Its good pussin boots peach went to see it the other day with the boys. Did dd1 enjoy it?

ibbydibby · 21/12/2011 20:08

DrNo that sounds really scary, hope you are ok today. A good reason to consume those choccies and mincepies that said are floating around at work..if it's any consolation, the only time I have ever fainted was 2 days after giving blood....gave blood on the Friday, and went away for the weekend. Drove home on the Sunday, got stuck on M25 in traffic jam, car overheated etc etc. Got home, felt knackered, DH suggested a short run (he thought my tiredness was due to sitting in car for hours and would be solved by exercise...). Coulddn't face a run so had a bath instead, and promptly fainted when I got out.

Liath I don't know what a SiS nutrition pack is but looking forward to finding out! (All I know is that SiS is a gel brand - never tried it though)

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 21/12/2011 20:13

DrNo, I had a similar post-blood donation running club experience a few months ago. It definitely took 2 weeks until I felt back up to normal fitness. Take it easy for a few days - your metabolism will be increased anyway while your body is making new erythrocytes so it won't affect your fitness much if you don't run.

Liath I have changed my running style since the summer - used to be a real heel stomper. I am now forefoot striking in pretty flat shoes (Brooks Green Silence). It feels better and looks better if I catch sight of my reflection. Did take a long time to build up mileage though - still a work in progress due to mojo loss. I would be very reluctant to try changing to forefoot landing if you already suffer from shin splints as I really felt it in my shins and calves.

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 21/12/2011 20:28

Goodness me, I leave you all for a few days and come back to umpteen pages of messages.

Anyway, just need to share that I have finished for the holidays! Woop woop!

rhetorician · 21/12/2011 20:49

hooray for you cherry, and good news from ange; poor old dr no...I love those Brooks Green Silence, but not sure how I would respond, given my elderly old bod...

mad afternoon here - we made the mistake of taking dd2 to town - she lost the plot totally so we had to abandon ship - very stressful all round, and then the carrier with the yummy craft beers smashed all over the road and and and ...we also have nowhere to put any of the stuff we've bought. Grrrr.

dd1 has great big bruise on her head from the little brat boy who keeps bothering her at nursery :( I'm going to have to talk to them about it again. I really like her key workers, but it means that dd1 is acting out when she gets home.

enjoyed my run this morning - an oasis of sanity in a sea of chaos and madness!

DebiTheScot · 21/12/2011 21:27

liath my shins hurt at the start of runs but not usually afterwards. I don't know what pose or chai running is but am quite fascinated by barefoot (but I think that's just because I'm reading Born to Run). I don't want to change anything too dramatically though just before starting a HM plan.

peach my running stuff isn't here yet. It'll only get here if dh can fit it in. He's getting the overnight bus up tonight because he's a crazy man

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 21/12/2011 22:08

Welcome back littlechief.

orange your ex really is a professional knob, isn't he? Were the boys disappointed or do they just accept it?

ange that's good to hear.

peach how was the film? Haven't been to the cinema for ages, I'm holding it in reserve for next week.

futurity well done on getting out.

Rhet I have to do sprout shopping (well food shopping) tomorrow with three very lively boys. Could be um interesting. Sympathies with the brat other child, we had a little girl at nursery who was a biter and ds1 was bitten quite a few times. We were quite lucky though, one of my friend's sons was bitten right through the cartilage at the top of his ear - permanently damaged it and he has had to have an operation to repair it. I hope you are able to resolve issues with the help of the nursery staff.

liath sorry about the injury woes Sad.

cherry did you find any suitable make up? Not a slap wearer myself so I'm clueless with advice.

Well I've done 3 x shred today. Level 2 this morning, them DH decided to do it tonight. And we somehow managed to do 1 + 2. Am knackered now. But DH did make me laugh, he looked like a turtle rolled on his back trying to do the bicycle crunches Smile.

debi I love the novelty of running somewhere I don't get to very often. I'm fascinated by barefoot running but not brave enough to try it.

sfxmum · 21/12/2011 22:15

hello all brief post

sorry to hear about injuries and assorted related woes

DrN take it easy it will be fine soon, dh gives blood regularly, I need to get back to it not been in a while

Rhet even if not possible it is nice to be considered, might be nice even if not a permanent/ long term move move.

Dh just had is last day, job search started, am sending my CV out as well, I actually fancy full time work but it is unlikely to work that way for a while as dh's hrs when working can be quite mad, but we shall see what ever comes our way will be good
really looking forward to a nice quiet run in the morning

AngeChica · 21/12/2011 22:28

rhet dh has family in Oz and we have been over a couple of times, what struck me was what a great quality of life people have in general and what a wholesome outdoorsy upbringing the kids have compared to UK. Food for thought! However it did feel like a very "alien" place both in terms of the geography, flora and fauna, and some uncomfortable "redneck" behaviour observed oaccsionally; isolated places can be quite insular I think, though I don't mean to generalise at all.

rhetorician · 21/12/2011 22:47

scary spiders! but great wine...I'll have to see what's on offer

peachLFDTsmuggler · 21/12/2011 22:54

It was ok shredme, but I think Arthur Christmas would have been better. orange, yes DD1 seemed to like it. Was very funny seeing her in her 3D glasses, I wasn't sure she would tolerate them for the whole film!

.Rhet, oh dear that all sounds a bit stressful. Hope all quiet on the western front tonight.

Debi, the overnight coach??? Good god, he must be mad!!!

Right finally did schools application so I can sleep easy tonight!

ShredMeJillianIWantToBeNatalie · 21/12/2011 23:00

Oh and drN I fainted once straight after giving blood, really embarrassing as they shove you back down flat on your back, feet up, and cold flannels on your face. Looked a right tit, but at least they got a pint of my finest.

bonkersLFDT20 · 22/12/2011 06:56

DrNo That sounds scary. Glad you are OK. 3 weeks though?! I never knew that. I think our bloodmobile is next coming to visit AFTER the Cambridge 1/2.

Rhet Did the nursery tell you about the bruise (it's not clear to me from what you wrote). If not, then that would be a bigger concern for me than the fact she got it. How do you know it's the same boy? Does DD1 tell you? Does this boy bother other children as well?

Peach Sorry that Kate isn't giving you much down time at the moment. She's probably about the age where you could start to introduce a more rigid routine isn't she? I love the stage when you can predict when they're naps are.

Still 2 more days of work. I have been staying up till gone midnight getting stuff done after DS2 is in bed (DH and DS1 are already in the holiday cottage).

Iced the bastard Delia cake. Looks quite nice actually.

bonkersLFDT20 · 22/12/2011 06:59

Rhet forgot to say, well done on being head hunted. Even if nothing comes of it, it's a nice boost.

Wheelybug · 22/12/2011 08:10

Welcome back chief ! Glad you're back with us and back to the running.

Take it easy drno.... red wine and chocolate is what you need. I
Must look in to giving blood as it's hugely important - I'm not sure I can give it as I had a major op when I was a child and I can't be sure I didn't have a blood transfusion.

ange - good news on your Dad's scan. Are you spending Christmas with him ?

liath - sorry to hear about more injuries. How long you out for ? I had assumed my slight shin niggles couldn't be shin splints as it didn't hurt when I run.... Will put shin splints back on my hypochondrial list then.

shredme - great name change. And wow at 3x shred. you is hardcore.

So my carefully planned treadmill sesh is off today. I had booked both dds into the gym holiday club for this morning just so I can run and go to costa but dd1 has a terrible cough and a bit of a temp. She was still raring to go but DH looked at me disapprovingly this morning when I said we were still going (that was before I realised she had a temp). He's right though and it's only a run.... Sob. He says though he's going to work from home tomorrow so I should be able to get out tomorrow and Christmas eve to fit it all in. Otherwise I'll have to be out on Christmas morningGrin .

Wheelybug · 22/12/2011 08:10

Well done on the cake bonkers I am off to a bad start having bought White marzipan instead of yellow. Oh well.... It'll have to do!

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 22/12/2011 08:25

Thanks Wheely. Don't think there will be any running in the next couple of days though. Kids off school/nursery yesterday and they are knackered (aged 5 and 3). I think we will be staying in doing very little which tends to result in me feeling too tired to do any exercise by evening.

I agree that shredme's efforts are hardcore! I have never managed to even complete workout 2. Blush

What is the difference between white and yellow marzipan (beyond colour, obviously)? Does anyone remember the walnut marzipan that used to be on sale? It was yummy - we used to put star cutouts of it on the cake then brown under the grill - mmmmmm.

Wheelybug · 22/12/2011 08:33

Oh I don't know chief - I had assumed it was just the colour ..... Is there any other difference (sees another panicked trip to waitrose in the offing....)

peachLFDTsmuggler · 22/12/2011 08:34

Aww what a shame wheely. I know folk who run on Xmas day. Nice and quiet apparently! Marzipan? . love xmas cake though.

I have eaten literally hundreds of mince pies these last few weeks. Groan. And will have to buy yet another packet today as Santa coming to our house tonight!

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 22/12/2011 08:37

Ah peach - I agree that almond marzipan is vile but walnut marzipan was lush.
