New thread everyone!

Rest for me today - just six days to go and I've woken with a sore throat .....

OP posts:
WishIwasCherryMenlove · 11/10/2011 13:46

Where's that effing finish line??

June2009 · 11/10/2011 13:48

aww paws that's a great pic, I refuse to put the one dh took of me after this weekend's 10k I look so red and tired and awful on it! (I keep telling myself dh is rubbish at taking pics, nothing to do with how I normally look :D) Actually thought I would eventually put it up when I have a nice pic of me as well to balance it out ;)

I put a pic of my "run to the beat" half on my FB account, got a bit more stats from runnersworld website too:
5995th out of 10753 runners, 2291th female out of 5766, and 1615th out of 3980 in my category. Only thing is I'm not sure what my category covers exactly, am currently 34.

Pawsnclaws · 11/10/2011 13:49

YLFDT Man is actually quite scary looking, bald with bulgy eyes and grimaces a lot. But then all the men in the weights room are, it's like a members only club where no-one else fears to tread due to extremely high testosterone levels. DH ventured in there by accident once and said it smelt of "sweaty balls". His words, not mine.

rhetorician · 11/10/2011 13:49

fanny I think it might be, actually :) (it's the hill work, I tell ya). I lost a bit of time in the back of beyond - ran down through some industrial buildings and then into a field and wasn't quite sure how to get out...but then I could see the sea.

peachsmuggler · 11/10/2011 13:51

paws, can't stop chuckling at that caption, cheeky fuckers!

Flipping hell Rhet, I really don't think you are far off a sub 2 hour half, with a training time like that!

I fucking hate the Daily Mail, the level of spite is just hideous. Will confess to reading the showbiz shit, usually under cover of night on my iPhone when I am awake, post pee and can't get back to sleep. Agree they hate women. In fact they hate everyone!

Right, that's it. Am inspired. Am on a mission to eat 26 Marathons (excuse 80's ref!) during week 39. Someone call the Mail and they can do a story about the harm I'm doing to my unborn child.

Sorry Tipple, that sucks. Someone here did have bursitis a couple of months ago, can't remember who but hopefully they'll be along soon.

encyclo, glad things going well for DD this week.

Pawsnclaws · 11/10/2011 13:53

Brilliant cherry, although I beg to differ - I believe in that second one you're clearly mouthing "Help me Jesus" and looking upwards!

OP posts:
futurity · 11/10/2011 13:54

great pictures Cherry - you do look like you are out for a stroll in the first one though ...and you have the worlds longest headphone lead?!

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 11/10/2011 14:06

futurity I know, the photographer was just there was I was having my dying moment and having to have a quick walk. Need better headphones too.

Paws to be honest divine intervention from any heavenly body would have been just fine - Jesus/Buddah/Allah/Jehovah, I wouldn't have been picky!

StrangewaysHereICome · 11/10/2011 14:07

Fabulous run rhet, you'll definitely get under 2 hours with the adrenalin of the race.

Ace picture paws crikey I was in tears laughing at that caption! To be fair though the SJA guy seems to be more concerned with the old chap behind you!

Fab pictures too Cherry, you look in the zone!

encyclogirl · 11/10/2011 14:10

Cherry fab pics! I love seeing everyone in action.

Thanks peach

I'm another one who hates the DM but reads the showbiz. Have you seen the Beyoncé bump pic? Peeps are saying it's fake. WTF?

DebiTheScot · 11/10/2011 14:14

Rhet you are definately getting faster!

Paws, sorry but I laughed too. The photo was fine though.
Cherry your 2nd photo is very funny too Grin

I didn't know about runner's Thursday at Lidl. Is it every Thursday? Some weeks I'm able to escape work early but not this week.
I think there's an Aldi near me too. Must check it out.

orangehead · 11/10/2011 14:15

Glad your time was better Cherry. Wow to that women. Strangely enough before I was pregnant I was a lazy cow in terms of excerise but when pregnant for some reason wanted to get active. With ds2 right up till I had him I was swimming 3x's a week. Walking 3 mies 3x's a week and doing yoga. Which from going from no exercise is quite strange. Couldn't do anything with ds1 as was on bed rest but had same desire to get active. But doing a marathon at 39 weeks is a different matter.
Reading the news first thing in the morning! I find it a full time job just to keep up with this thread.
Think I might have to use the new mantra up that last hill on the parkrun on saturday if my leg ok. Perhaps in my head though

ibbydibby · 11/10/2011 14:26

Paws the picture sounds hilarious, I just wish I could see it. I think it is to do with pop-ups being blocked or summat, because when I allowed pop-ups on the handbridge site, I could see more photos than previously, sadly not yours. nyone any ideas/suggestions?

Good piccies too Cherry

Well done Rhet sounds like a good run, excellent time. I had a run recently where I couldn't quite figure out where I needed to be...passed the same group of children about 3 times!

Encyclo glad things a bit better now

Tipple sorry about hip. Are you allowed to do other sports? Have just had week off running with sre calf (ie so nothing like as bad as your injury) but have taken to bike instead.

Re Daily Mail, my DSis buys this every day when she is on holiday in hotter climes.

encyclogirl · 11/10/2011 14:38

Debi just this Thursday. I've been stalking the Lidl website waiting to pounce!

runner I sympatise with your injury. I am really suffering today after my 6. It's so effing frustrating isn't it?

Thanks ibby one day at a time with my dd, but today was another decent day, so we'll take it!

stickylittlefingers · 11/10/2011 14:57

Paws and Cherry thanks for sharing the pictures! It's so nice to see you as real people, and doing that running thing. I was quite taken with the blonde in the picture above Paws' who has a vest, nothing on her shoulders, but then sleeves down to her wrists. Not seen anything quite like that before.

Will be down at Lidl on Thursday to see what's on offer (I'm lucky to have one in walking/running distance for whenever I feel the need for a little German nosh), excellent tip, ta.

Well done rhet on your run. If you're doing that now, what'll you be like next year? Great stuff.

I'm allergic to the DM. They tell lies, and breed hate. Nasty nasty people. Since the whole Murdoch press thing I've pretty much taken against journos in general. Even the Today programme seems to be getting rather right wing with Evan Davis' influence. I think I'm officially a wooly minded liberal/loony leftie! Best stick to the running...

sfxmum · 11/10/2011 15:02

Evan Davies positively pants at the sight of some businessy type person. Give me Peston any day, even with the freaky weird speech pattern

sfxmum · 11/10/2011 15:02

and well done Rhet

stickylittlefingers · 11/10/2011 15:09

I agree, I'd rather have Robert Peston (but you mustn't tell anyone up here I said that - RP is still blamed for the fall of Northern Rock and I'm not sure he'd be safe on the streets of Newcastle Hmm). I do wonder if RP is in cahoots with Rory Bremner though, he is far too easy a target!

peachsmuggler · 11/10/2011 15:36

God, how I love Robert Peston, his delivery is just so hilarious. I also quite like the fact that he often to be seen with a very unfashionable haircut Smile

like Evan Davis too but every time I see/hear him, I can only think about his Prince Albert Grin

have told you before but Huw Edwards lives a couple of streets away from us and is often to be seen in local coffee shop. He is massive and a god Also, he gets the train to work so appeals on a sustainable living level too.

sfxmum · 11/10/2011 15:47

peach and her fuzzy justification for fancying Huw Grin not just the accent then?

runnerstipple · 11/10/2011 16:08

You are all officially Lovely - thanks for your support, and the fab photos Cherry. They and the RP/Evan Davis discussion have made me feel much more cheerful. But peach I didn't know about the Prince Albert, I thought it was just his nips he'd had done.

Ibby, the GP didn't say anything about other sports, and I foolishly forgot to ask, so taking the thread mantra to heart I am going to shout LFDT and go to Zumba tonight. If I fall over I'll leave.

Wheelybug · 11/10/2011 16:10

Yes LOL at peach and her Huw justification Grin.

Well done rhet ! 2 hours... deffo on for sub 2 half next time...

Great pics Cherry thanks for sharing ! Will look up the pic of paws but I had to laugh at the caption - I'm sure they didn't mean it like that......

Debi - Our lidl usually has stuff left passed Thursday. I hope so as i'm not sure I'll get there this thursday or friday.

Pinkglow · 11/10/2011 16:11

Wowser this thread moves quickly. I can?t check the thread over the weekend so when I come in on mon/tues I spend most of the morning catching up. Hopefully we will be getting a new home computer at the end of this month.

There were loads of runs over last weekend and so far I am enjoying all the race reports. However I?m sure nobody can beat my time of 1hr 58 minutes for 10k LOL

It was my first race, 10k cross country with obstacles. Training was going well and I had managed to run up to 8k then I got very painful shin splints. I took 2 weeks off and then did a couple of 15 minute runs which aggravated my shins again as I didn?t rest them long enough. Lesson learnt there.

So going into the race the most I had run was 8k and that was over a month previous to the event and my shins still hurt. I was completely unprepared and really shouldn?t have run but dam it I had paid my fee and I wanted a crappy cotton T-shirt out of it.

I decided going in that I was going to walk all the hills (of which there were many) and to try my best on the flats. My brother had done the Cardiff survival of the fittest only the week before and as he was tired from that so he said he would run with me.

We made sure we were near the back when the gun went off as to not get in anyone?s way and set off. Then it was just over 10k of lots of hills and a few evil very muddy obstacles. I did walk up the hills as planned but as we were near the back so did most of the other people we were with. During the down hill parts and the flats I managed to run at a good slow/steady pace and actually overtook quite a few people (admittedly most of them were walkers) the course itself was quite stunning and was a real mix of cross country terrain with both fields and woodland.
About three quarters round we ran across a road were we got to see a load of people who had already finished driving home!! When we got to the last 1 ½ km my brother pushed off towards the end while I tackled the last hill. My brother after collecting his goody bag ran back and met me with only ½ km to go and then ran the last part with me so we did manage to cross together.

Overall I am pleased. Yes I know that I could have done so so much better but given my injury I really don?t think I could have given any more really and I would love to do it again when healthy just to prove to myself that I can do it. I finished 621 out of 700 so almost 70 people finished behind me and overall I?m quite positive about the whole thing.

Now I do need to rest though until my shin splits are better so no running for at least two weeks.

runnerstipple · 11/10/2011 16:18

Well done pink, what sort of obstacles were they? I saw something about a team race that sounds a bit like this - the Suffolk Whole Hog 8, but I couldn't find anyone who wanted to do it with me. Lightweights.

Wheelybug · 11/10/2011 16:22

Great pic Paws - I think a rather unforetunate (although highly amusing) worded caption rather than a comment on your condition !!
