New thread everyone!

Rest for me today - just six days to go and I've woken with a sore throat .....

I personally ate a marathon amount of cake at 39 weeks bonkers, I don't know why Sky news didn't cover that one.

Paws well done again on your marathon. On my race, there was one long hill for about 1.5 km, which they had St Johns ambulance staioned half way up and an ambulance at the top - just waiting for someone to collapse clearly!

I have just found the photos for my 10k also, absolutely hilarious. They managed to get me at one of the bad moments and I look like I'm about to murder the photographer. Meanwhile DP looks like he's about to spew at the finish line!

Oh and, this is so silly, I thought my time for sunday was 1hr 11mins, but actually it was 1hr 8 mins as that was the chip time - doh! Only 1 minute slower than the other 10k I did 5 years ago and with the big hill in the middle. Those extra 3 minutes make me feel a whole lot better strangely.

encyclogirl · 11/10/2011 11:38

Just a quicke ladies...

Lidl are selling running gear on Thursday. Just checked the uk website as well as our own one here in Ireland.

The gear looks ok and is bargainatious! I'll be there at 8.00am with the hordes.

Running club last night. Ran 6, completely overdid it and my banjaxed upper thigh thing has now spread...um...upwards.

I might have to rename myself fannybanjaxed unless things improve Blush
got home and practised yoga for 40 minutes, that definitely helped.

Rhet have the winds dropped up your way? I ran in a gale last night.

dd is doing better again today, thank God. Her period arrived and that kind of explained last weeks mania. Health board inspector arriving at school today to observe her. Fighting tooth and nail for more resources at the moment. Her teacher and sna are just amazing, but she needs more support. Hey ho, the never ending fight for resources...

Paws You are awesome. That is all.

Have to dash, posting in a meeting.

fannybanjo · 11/10/2011 11:45

Oh my god paws I'm so sorry but I keep re-reading your post with tears in my eyes I'm laughing that much!! Please please please tell me what village it was! Brilliant to keep that though!

runnerstipple · 11/10/2011 11:49

God, I can barely keep up with you all (on thread and otherwise), but huge well done's to everyone for their weekend races. I love all the race reports, and the idea of a MN 10k next year (sorry, I can't remember who suggested it).

Am feeling very sorry for myself as my sore hip is feeling worse and I haven't run since Friday. I went to the GP last night, and he's diagnosed trochanteric bursitis [a common disorder that affects the (lateral) side of the hip or hips. By definition, bursitis is the swelling of the bursa, a small fluid sac that releases fluid to allow for smooth motion between bones, tendons, ligaments and muscles - don't you love t'internet] and said to try and rest it, and then run no more than a couple of miles. When I ran on Friday the pain wore off after a mile of so, but it definitely doesn't seem to be getting better even after several days rest, in fact I can feel it burning just sitting here. Has anyone else had this, and/or have any advice?

Sorry, it's all been me, me, me but feeling glum and angsty because I haven't been able to get out.

sfxmum · 11/10/2011 11:51

paws Grin cheeky buggers

moshi the BBC is omnipresent fear not, my friend who is English married to an American and lives in SF only allows the BBC in her house along with PBS

news I was used to wake up to Farming Today followed by the start of the Today programme all the way to work, these days I still catch some of it plus sites and papers for quick scan. The Daily Mail is like an obsession of mine, I look, I rant, award for most base headline recently during the teacher strike
'girl killed sitting on park bench when branch fell on her head, because the teachers where on strike and she should have been at school'
Today it is gay parents

I did a very slow and painful 10k today I am looking at 1.15 at best for the 22nd and I feel disheartened, I think I was unable to sustain a pace, any pace and had bursts of, for me, speed, then had to walk or slow down a lot,
maybe there is still time to work on pace? or should I just adopt a different strategy? maybe just not care and accept last place and just get it over with?

Pawsnclaws · 11/10/2011 11:56

Oh runnerstipple that sounds awful. No advice, just poor you.

fanny the website is handbridge.com and the picture is under "Chester Marathon Report 2011". Loads of pictures, scroll down till you see the one of me in white t-shirt and black leggings, friend is wearing a red hat. SJA man on bike is hovvering menacingly in the foreground. It was taken as we came into Eccleston - only 4 miles and they were already circling like vultures ready to pick at my sweaty corpse.

Will link when I can. I'm only showing you lot this because I love you all, right? Grin

Pawsnclaws · 11/10/2011 11:58

cherry you do realise you have to share this picture, right? Smile

OP posts:
futurity · 11/10/2011 12:23

All photos must be shared :) PMSL at that caption!

Consider my eyes washed out...Actually thinking about it I don't read the Sun site much anymore as the Daily Mail has much more trash on it for me to be shocked and appalled at!

I've just been swimming for the first time in YEARS without the children. I went with my friend who has had lessons and knows how to do it all properly. I am glad to report that I wasn't as crap as I thought I would be...I think I do have potential to be a good swimmer..I just need to learn some better technique especially regarding my breathing which in turn I think will help my running. Feel on a bit of a high but expect I will ache later!

encyclogirl · 11/10/2011 12:24

ha ha paws that pic is a classic!

rhetorician · 11/10/2011 13:13

sfx Daily Mail does gay parents? I will have to look; I just can't help myself...

runnerstipple · 11/10/2011 13:19

Thanks paws - great pic but fantastic caption - made me laugh. You honestly don't look like you are in any danger of calling on St John's at any time soon.

Pawsnclaws · 11/10/2011 13:19

I'll have to check out the DM too, I like to look at the showbiz stuff which essentially consists of pictures of celebs dressed completely normally for an occasion (such as wearing a bikini on a beach) who are labelled as "flaunting" or "showing off" their figure/legs/whatever.

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 11/10/2011 13:20

paws brilliant!! Hey to be fair - at least it weren't a photo of you collapsed crying at side of pavement looking for your rings! Wink. You look great in your photo.

fannybanjo · 11/10/2011 13:22

rhet you know you've joined the masses when the DM cover it!

rhetorician · 11/10/2011 13:28

god what a stupid bunch of people - not to mention a stupid article (oh, yes, the DM) - it gives no information about why they ended up in the high court, or what was actually at issue. Clearly they had all got along fine for 9 years. These cases always freak me out.

futurity · 11/10/2011 13:29

Paws that photo is fab...you look fine though..think the SJA man is heading towards the chap behind you who looks less fine!

They are lovely photos..looks like a very scenic route.

fannybanjo · 11/10/2011 13:30

I haven't read it but will peruse the filth they spew later. Don't search for the article about the lesbian parents whose son wants to be female. You can imagine the readers comments.... Hmm

sfxmum · 11/10/2011 13:31

sorry should not have mentioned it, usual let's pick some 'facts' and spew out some 'views' to excite the retired colonels and mrs Trellis of this world

rhetorician · 11/10/2011 13:33

it's fine - I'm well used to this stuff, but really resent it when gay parents present the world with this kind of model - some of the comments are very predictable, but some are quite sensible. Also, I know of many cases where lesbian couples have treated donors very badly indeed :(

sfxmum · 11/10/2011 13:33

but it can be instructive on how they work, the hatred of women is so blatant, same person one week look at her lovely curves with her fuller figure, next day, what a pig
and so on

rhetorician · 11/10/2011 13:35

and in other news, I ran nearly 12 miles to work today in just over 2 hours. It was great - mostly easy, with the occasional let's fucking do this moment. I think maybe we should buy that man a present!

It's still windy, and damp, but on the whole pretty nice running weather. Now I need tea and food before my class

rhetorician · 11/10/2011 13:40

fanny I've seen that story in another context...oh my god, the venom. And the person most likely to be affected by this kind of crap is...the child. Must get tea...

Pawsnclaws · 11/10/2011 13:41

Well done rhet!

Yes sfx the double standards are just amazing. You just never ever get those comments in relation to men. The DM has its "favourites" who can do no wrong (Miranda Kerr, who apparently is a model - in it nearly every day with her "adorable" son, and her "racy" photos) and then all other women are categorised as sluts, fat pigs, or women who have the absolute bloody gall to have children and go to work.

And don't even get me started on the comments ......

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 11/10/2011 13:41

Yes, let's lay the Daily Mail to rest and use it as virtual arse wipe paper...

Rhet well done - bloody hell, you flew into work! Is that a PB for you?

How funny that this one guy has caused such a funny discussion and if only he knew however he does sound slightly deranged so doubt he'd appreciate the piss take!

WishIwasCherryMenlove · 11/10/2011 13:45

I'm going to take that camera and shove it down your throat
