New thread everyone!

Rest for me today - just six days to go and I've woken with a sore throat .....

OP posts:
Wheelybug · 11/10/2011 16:26

pinkglow - well done for getting round especially in the injured circumstances. I have a friend who is a BMF-er and has done a couple of such races so I have heard about them and seen the pictures. Looks terrifying. I volunteered to do it with her but luckily she's been away for both of them this year !!

Pinkglow · 11/10/2011 16:52

Well done pink, what sort of obstacles were they? I saw something about a team race that sounds a bit like this - the Suffolk Whole Hog 8, but I couldn't find anyone who wanted to do it with me. Lightweights.

Most were mud related so lots of walking through waist height mud or through foot high mud. A few people lot their shoes but I dont think anyone was wearing their fave running shoes for this. A few walls to climb over and a net which you had to crawl through mud under. Nothing too bad if you dont mind getting dirty, the hills were more of a problem for most I think.

sfxmum · 11/10/2011 17:02

pink well done it sounds hard filthy and cold Grin

Pawsnclaws · 11/10/2011 17:23

I love the sound of that pink, it sounds such a laugh. Did anyone see the programme recently where Jo Brand did the race in Maldon where you had to cross the muddy river? It was hilarious. I do love JB, she's one of those celebs I would be SO disappointed to find out has a massive Do You Know Who I Am ego. Would love to share a few pints of wine and some crisps tea and buns with her.

stickylittlefingers · 11/10/2011 18:18

Pink that sounds like a brilliant race, well done! Before getting back to running as an adult, I'd done lots of cross country as a teenager - I still feel like I haven't really done it properly when I don't come back filthy and muddy! Walls to climb over would be hard work though...

Paws I agree, Jo Brand always seems like she'd be such a laugh to share a few pints with. Tho I can still get my kicks - my aunt sounds EXACTLY like Jo Brand. I never realised until I introduced DP to her and he nearly fell over when he heard her speak!

peachsmuggler · 11/10/2011 18:51

pink. Waist high mud!!! I'm surprised you got round it at all mate, well done!!! Also, sounds like you enjoyed it, which is the whole point! Any photos of you as a mud monster you'd like to share??? Wink

re. the lovely Huw. It's the accent, the height, the sustainable living. In fact, the whole package. Not THAT package fanny!!!

Now as to Jo Brand, paws and sticky, she also lives round here and when I've seen her around she just seem like a lovely normal sort of gal! Never spoken to her or anything but see her in the park and picking up her kids from school. Once did a yoga class in the local church hall and she was compering a school charity quiz night in the adjacent hall. She was very very funny. Couldn't concentrate on the yoga much!!!

Love the photos Cherry!! Didn't notice the long headphones!

peach what a great story re Jo Brand - huge fan also - I well reckon she'd wear a LFDT t-shirt with our approved logo of men with knobs out pissing up the wall spelling out "LFDT but let's empty our sacks first..." think she'd appreciate it! However can't see her participating in our LFDT fun run topless...

pink wow that sounds a challenge and one that I'd never bloody consider! Ruin me make up ya see.... Wink

rhet you doing any more hills?

sticky how's the Mac? Very Envy - we are an Apple Abode also. Will update ours soon whenthekidsfuckoff

Hills session tomorrow. Rest day today. Spent 4 hours ironing. Hmm. I'm such a twat.

fannybanjo · 11/10/2011 21:16

Oh yeah paws you get the golden egg award for titillating me all day! That photo with said caption fan-fuxkimg-tastic!!!

peachsmuggler · 11/10/2011 21:43

Seriously fanny. 4 hours??? You do know you can just, like, um, not do it????

If I ironed I would literally have zero time to eat Jaffa cakes do anything else, and I do the bare minimum as it is. C'mon, the slatterns shall inherit the earth!!!

fannybanjo · 11/10/2011 22:00

peach started doing clothes at 12pm, finished at 3pm. Then after tea got bedding done and more clothes out of drier and that took me from 5.30 until 7. That's actually 4.5 hours Blush. As I said, I'm a twat but a twat with nicely pressed clothes Grin (but a dirty mouth). Anyway how you doing my love? You getting fed up yet?

DrNortherner · 11/10/2011 22:05

Just a quickie as I can not go a whole day without popping in here Smile

I have to say you huys are all fab and make me laugh all the time. Chuckling at N4nny at her running club saying LFDT in her head as she doesn't want to appear a lunatic and paws I am so sorry but I did actually wee my pants a little at teh St Johns ambulance comment. Oh my, will still be chortling when I'm in bed at that one Grin

I heard about pregnant woman running chicago then giving birth. Respect hey?!

Off to bed now as am knackered after intervals at running club.....am getting better, chicked a few blokes today Grin

orangehead · 11/10/2011 22:16

Thats about how long it takes me to do my ironing Fanny
Have you seen this running story www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2047816/Marathon-runner-shaved-miles-race-finished-catching-spectator-bus-disqualified.html Smile naughty boy. I know it the daily mail but thought I would share.
Usually do 6 miles on wednesdays but as leg sore and promised dsis I would help go and strip her new house tomorrow might just try and go to gym and bike tomorrow night if it not too late after parents evening. Headmaster rang me today to say really worried about ds2 as he has been biting himself at school today. Thought I would ring hospial as camhs have now referred him to occupational therapy. But to no surprise occupational therapy have not even received the referral Angry. The hospital is a joke. Also af arrived today so just been having a few vodkas Grin

orangehead · 11/10/2011 22:24

stickylittlefingers · 11/10/2011 23:01

oh orange your poor DS2. Hugs.

New Mac is so cool!! It's so quick (I might even keep up on this thread now!). It's tiny too. And so pretty. I love love love it.

Looks like I'll be running in the rain tomorrow - at least I won't be overheating!

What does chicking a bloke mean DrNo? I'm assuming it means being faster than them, so respect - go girls!!

orangehead · 11/10/2011 23:26

stickylittlefingers · 11/10/2011 23:36
Grin
rhetorician · 12/10/2011 00:19

it's late and I have been out Shock; is there a reverse scenario, e.g. bloking a chick (that happens to me all the time). I am nursing a big bruise ('that needs some cream, mummy', bless) because I ran across a field today (yes, in the middle of the city) and had to climb over a huge gate because I was escaping the brent geese...my god I enjoyed that run. Am going to push it to 20k next week.

fanny hills on sunday! I am converted, I am a believer!

peachsmuggler · 12/10/2011 05:22

orange, poor you, and poor DS, what a shame also that you aren't getting the support you need. Hope things improve soon. Thanks for the heads up re. TENS machines, am borrowing one from a mate.

fanny, you are clearly mental, but then I think I knew this! I have resorted to finishing drying the neverendingbabyclothesmountain in the dreaded tumble dryer. God save my unsustainable soul!

June2009 · 12/10/2011 07:05

encyclo that's really nice of the teacher to text you, hopefully you feel like you're getting somewhere x

I forgot who, fawcet? , who made it sound like an AA meeting, we could have thas as a thread title one day as well :) "my name is X and i'm a raceholic " love it :)

I am addicted as well, looking for my next 10k, i'd like to fibd a local-ish one (north london) which is fairly big and uses chips so i can measure my time properly.
Do the bupa ones use chips?

Re: dodgy tums and hydration, do you guys drink a lot of water generally? I always try an have 2l a day, and i drank 4 the day before the half. My tummy is only dodgy when i'm on my periods but obviously don't know if that is related.

Has there been a mumsnet 10k before or did I dream that?

Off for a bit o running on the treadmill this am, not sure wht yet, trainer got me runnin at 18 (km/h? I assume) on the treadmill the other day, i was impressed i could go that fast, go me!!!

futurity · 12/10/2011 07:29

June - I probably don't drink enough water although I drink more than I used to after I had kidney stones a few years ago and got told I should drink more (stones were so painful!).

I did drink enough the day before my half and would say I drank more in the run than I normally do but hardly had any jelly babies so am sure that didn't help.

Am having a bit of a post race come down and feeling a bit flat...need a kick up the bum!

DebiTheScot · 12/10/2011 09:16

Lol at Oor Wullie Grin

I get dodgy tummys but it seems to be random and I can't work out what triggers it. I do drink a lot though. I think energy drinks and gels make it worse though. The only time in races I've had energy drinks is in the triathlons where I've had them on the bike plus maybe a glucose tablet about 10 mins before the end of the bike. I tried energy drinks on training runs and they made me feel sick. Haven't tried jelly babies but can't imagine wanting one while running.

I was reading the reviews of the HM I want to do in March and everyone thinks it's amazing. There were several reports of jelly babies being given out in the villages.

I also read some reviews and saw the results (from a few years ago)of the duathlon I'm doing next weekend and now I'm bricking it! There were several people who did both of the 5k runs in 16 mins! Out of the 130 people who did it the year I found the results for I reckon I'd come about 120th. And I thought the cycle would be flat (it's on a car race track) but apparently there is 1 hill and it's always windy.

I haven't run for 10 days now and I can't feel my shins running up the stairs now so I think I might try a small run (hopefully straight after a cycle) on Friday afternoon. Saturday I'm going on a school trip from 5am-midnight but I will have to make myself do something on Sunday. It's hard to fit the cycles in now as I can't get out during the week (don't fancy a training cycle in the dark) so I need to go at the weekend.

ibbydibby · 12/10/2011 10:03

Shock at your school trip Debi - I have much respect for teachers doing school trips on weekdays - but a Saturday, at that time - even more so! Well done, hope the parents appreciate it. Also for residential trips, imagine all staff involved feel as if they are on duty 24 hours a day for the duration. I have in the past taken staff a large bar of Cadbury's as a thank you for a trip - or box of something like Quality Street to share (adults only) when they are on residential.

Fanny would you like to do our ironing? Usually gets to the very large pile stage and then DH announces he is going to tackle it, at which point I feel very guilty for not sorting it sooner (bearing in mind that I am at home more than him and work fewer hours)

Is there a poster called Fawcet - don't remember seeing her/him. Am also struggling to keep up with this thread though. Seems to lurch from LFDI to Jo Brand & Robert Peston in 2 strides. Speakig of BBC peeps, I just love the archiness of Fiona Bruce's eyebrows.

Off out for run, have been puttig it off due to wet and drizzly weather.
