New thread everyone!

Rest for me today - just six days to go and I've woken with a sore throat .....

OP posts:
rhetorician · 09/10/2011 21:19

strangeways - how frustrating for you! fwiw I think you should give him time limits - e.g. say I'll take the children from x-y time, if you want to get out for a bike ride (i.e. put it positively!). I try to time runs where DP has to have dd to coincide with easier times - so before dd gets up (more difficult now that the mornings are getting darker), or around lunchtime, when she normally watches Mr Tumble. But it's a challenge trying to fit it all in and there's no-one on this thread who doesn't end up with situations like this from time to time.

ibbydibby · 09/10/2011 21:19

Strangeways sorry about your day - you both deserve to do the things you love!

peachsmuggler · 09/10/2011 21:27

That is well annoying strangeways! My DP would also get a gold medal for fannying about so I sympathise!

peachsmuggler · 09/10/2011 21:31

Oh Rhet, you cruel thing! Hope you didn't have a plate of iced oysters for an appetiser and wash it all down with a gin and tonic! I missed nice cheese for a while but not at the moment. However, come Christmas I will be face down in a trough full of the stuff. Oink oink!

sfxmum · 09/10/2011 21:34

strangeways that sounds frustratingly familiar along with the 'you know I don't like planning ahead at weekends' Hmm these days I mostly take charge when possible and provide slots for synchronizing, if it happens fine if not at least less chance of being enraged with frustration

have to be more forceful when we have planes or boats to catch or long travel ahead

rhetorician · 09/10/2011 21:35

yes, peach I did mutter something about Christmas...

Pawsnclaws · 09/10/2011 21:58

Hi all, knackered after marathon and long long long drive home. Full report tomorrow, but did it in I think about 5 hours 35-6. Had a nightmare calf problem literally the whole way round, but was ok - pretty good actually - till 17 miles, then lost my wedding and engagement rings and spent 10 mins sat on the pavement crying! Reunited with rings, but lost my mojo after that. Eventful shall we say?!!

Anyway, finished in one piece but had a massage after and the physio said my calf is in a really bad way. Oh dear.

Will catch up tomorrow with all your news, sorry for the me me me post!

backwardpossom · 09/10/2011 22:05

Crikey paws! Well done on completing - you're a marathon runner! Grin

ibbydibby · 09/10/2011 22:15

Well done paws - you carried on when you could so easily have dropped out. Good on yer! Sorry about your calf.

Brew, Wine and [big box of chocs emoticon]

peachsmuggler · 09/10/2011 22:15

Well done paws, you're as hard as nails!!! How awful about your rings, really glad you got them back. Hope you get a good night's sleep and the calf is ok!

rhetorician · 09/10/2011 22:36

paws you are well hard! hope that you are resting and that calf will heal soon. Respect.

Wheelybug · 09/10/2011 22:53

paws to coin (or bastardise) a phrase 'you fucking did it - well done !
cherry don't be hard on yourself - you f ING did it too !

Hard to catch up properly on phone so will do so on computer tomorrow.

Thanks for answers re kit/parents evening (morning) - I will there in my capris and trainers

sfxmum · 09/10/2011 23:18

paws you did it Smile

DebiTheScot · 09/10/2011 23:21

Oh no, poor you paws, well done for making it round though. You ran 26 miles today!!!!! I cycled 20 and was tired.

Sorry I said I'd be back and then didn't come back. I'd remembered this morning that we were going out but then completely forgot until the doorbell went and I answered the door and had to try and not look surprised to see the babysitter! We went to see Dave Gorman and it was very, very, very funny. Hilarious.

And after watching him my funny story doesn't seem so funny but I'll bore tell you anyway.
Was with ds2 in Sunday school this morning and a girl who looked about 4 staggered in late wearing fanny's dd's bright pink, glittery Sharpee (that's not her name is it? She's not actually named after a pen) boots! I could hardly control myself! Especially as she could hardly walk in the heels! Then one of the other mums said very enthusiastically "wow, what amazing boots" and I nearly wet myself!
Then it got even funnier when she sat down cross legged on the floor and due to the extreme glitteryness of the boots she couldn't move! The boots stuck to each other like velcro and every time she tried to shuffle forwards a bit she can to noisily peel them apart to move. It was very hard to stay in control!

June2009 · 10/10/2011 01:09

paws you fucking did it :) wow, what an achievement, you must be really proud. Hope you're ok, what a shame about loosing your rings, I cried too when i lost a ring my mum had given me, (also found it again luckily).
Take care of yourself, looking forward to your report. I find the concrpt if running for more than 2 1/2 hours really daunting, you're a marathon runner now.:)
You too futurity, take care, what are you up to tomorrow? Can you rest some more? that sounded a bit scary. Great time though !!!

Whoever said they coudn't go out because their dh isn't organised well ifeel your pain. Dh told me today we're never going out the night before a race again, because he had to get up at 8 to look after dd and he was tired. (yeah? How about getting up at 6 and running 10k then resume normal family
activities?) I do all the mornings (6:15) and he usually only ever has to get up 'early'(9 AM)!!! On saturday mornings, i don't think im asking for too much. . He does have the decency of being totally against any form of exercise and therefore i feel super good about being the fit one ;)

tonight I fell asleep on dd's floor putting her to sleep :) and now enjoying the fact that i can go back to bed for a few more hours!! Night night!

futurity · 10/10/2011 07:25

June thanks...had a good sleep (woke far too early though) and feel ok..haven't attempted to go downstairs yet..imagine it may hurt! Have learnt some valuable lessons from the aftermath of yesterday and will look into better fueling strategies and post run recovery.

Wow paws !!! Well done...that sounds like an epic marathon...you are amazing...especially after carrying on with calf problems and after the ring horror ...that would of finished me off at 17 miles! Look forward to hearing your report x

StrangewaysHereICome · 10/10/2011 08:54

Wow paws you are amazing! Well done for keeping going - bloody hell you covered 9.2 miles without your mojo, bloody brilliant woman!! So glad you found your rings. Was that your first marathon? I hope you don't ache too much and your calf gets better soon.

Ooh futurity the post race pain of the stairs, ouch, ouch ouch! Apart from that hope you feel better now.

Right you lot have inspired me to get out and run my poxy 8 miles, in a howling gale Grin.

StrangewaysHereICome · 10/10/2011 08:59

Oh June missed your post there! It was me moaning about DH. I just wish he was more organised. But then I need to be more assertive and right I am going out at such and such time. I normally take DS with me so that only leaves him with two self sufficient children to contend with. Mind you the bonus was he changed DS's nappy while I was at the pool with the girls!! The last time he did that I had just broken my arm! ( disclaimer, he's lovely really!). Right must go!

futurity · 10/10/2011 09:34

Stairs update: I managed to go down them fine :) Achy walking to school but manageable! Still feeling a bit queezy but think that is due to my cold.

Pawsnclaws · 10/10/2011 09:42

OMG what have I done to my calf? It's swollen and there is a saucer sized mottled red patch, like a bruise but not the purple colour. Anyone else had that?

OP posts:
stickylittlefingers · 10/10/2011 09:44

Couldn't get back yesterday evening, so I'm here with the coffee this morning...:)

Futurity Well done you! Doesn't it feel great to smash a PB :) :) My digestive tract is all shot to pieces after a mis-spent youth: my top tip is to be very careful about what sugars you take in, and not drink too much cold water. Ages ago Moshi recommended Hi5 isogel (it's a gel which is designed to be taken without water) and I've found that to be great. Nothing worse than having to rush into the toilet to indulge in some pebble dashing after a run...

Paws Totally in awe of all marathon runners, and it sounds like you pushed yourself through a tough one mentally, so lots of respect. Hope you're feeling good today!

Cherry you probably rolled your eyes when Paws said that she wasn't really a runner (except of course when she runs marathons!!), then there's rhet ooh I'm not very good, I don't run fast enough (over 18 fucking kilometres) - you're doing the same bloody thing. Silly Woman!! You did a 10k, you deserve a pat on the back. And one thing you learn from this thread is that it doesn't matter if you're doing 12 m/m or 7 m/m, 5k or 50k, everyone's trying to improve. You set your own goals (ignore silly superfit DH, come and sit next to me and you'll feel much better :))

Hi Muffin! Well done on your great time too!

Debi had a good chuckle at the fannyboots story (must remember not to call them fannyboots in RL or I'll have some explaining to do!)

rhet sure you're right about the potty training. If I were being trained to do anything, that's the approach you'd have to take with me (thankfully I've been accident free for a good while now :))

wheely my nicest clothes are my running ones (my newest ones at any rate). I think they'll be well impressed by your wellardness...

Mac should be arriving today . This one was the replacement DP got when his laptop was stolen from Dunnes Stores car park when I was pregnant with DD1, so it'll be getting on for 8 years old. Great little workhorse, but it's struggling now. Out to lunch with a old work colleague too, so it's a good day :)

stickylittlefingers · 10/10/2011 09:47

Paws not myself, but it does sound like you might have "done" something. Ice and GP?

Futurity bloody well done on those stairs!!

stickylittlefingers · 10/10/2011 09:51

backwardpossom I just saw the PM (don't get them very often, so it's a red letter day!) and yes I can see them, thanks ever so much. Just looking at the PB chaser (looks a very doable plan) - one way to achieve a PB is have a big strong bloke carry you round the course, the photo suggests :)

rhetorician · 10/10/2011 11:35

slf yes, she's an independent soul. It is blowing a gale here, gusts almost lifting you off your feet. Just did a good 5 miles though, happy with pace and feel :) New Mac...hours of joyful cursing configuring ahead. We have 3 - a big i-mac desktop, my i-book (black, belongs to work, about 4 years old now), and DP's i-book - about a year old. Surely, along with assorted i-pods from various generations, that must be enough mac stuff for one household?

paws again, haven't had this myself, but that sounds like a pulled tendon to me - or even a small tear (hence the red patch?). I think you need to ice, rest and elevate and get someone to look at it for you.

so have dropped dd, done my run, emptied and refilled dishwasher, put laundry away, put on a wash (had coffee and shower, and realised that I only have clean sports bras Hmm), answered about 12 emails from students (I don't know the room number for my tutorial - errm, it's week 5!; I am out of the country; please help me find the worksheet: really, at least toddlers have the excuse that they are, well, toddlers!); now I am steeling myself to steer the bike to work...no wonder I'm bloody shattered!

encyclogirl · 10/10/2011 11:36

Wow! So many posts to catch up on. This thread is whizzy in every sense of the work Grin

Guys, thank you so much for all the lovely words of support for me and my family, and thank you also for your own personal insight and experiences with family members and friends who are living with DS in some shape or form.

We are on a path of consistency in my house like never before and she's definintely 'unlearning' some behaviours already. She's such a little poppet when she's good and we are just completely devoted to her. When she's bad...

Loved all the race reports, really exciting. Keeps me hyped and geared up for my own running.

I have an injury problem now though, not sure what it is or how serious it is.

My upper inner left thigh and buttock is hurting. No swelling thankfully. I can run through it for 2-3 miles then the pain gets worse. What is that? Is it a low grade grion strain? I noticed it a few weeks ago then it kind of went, and now it's back again. No doubt my shite running form is blame.

Oh I am a sweater and a beetroot and a stomper and even a hobbler.

What a lovely picture I paint Grin
