Debi good luck for cycling race - fingers crossed the wind is behind you!

Orange that's not as much fun is it! I will add that my McDonalds was a "Grilled" nuked "Chicken" carcass Tortilla toiletroll wrap "only" 350 cals.... I will not add in the handful of fries I pinched from DH as they don't count in my calorie intake as they weren't mine! Wink

rhet I only run - don't do anything else. Could do with going back to circuit training but I tend to lose too much weight Hmm - I am considering buying some free weights and a bench so I could weight train at home - however best laid plans and all that... My pilates seems to have fallen flat, it is hard to do training for GNR and fit anything else in however in the winter will have more time to go during evening as DH doesn't dog train on the dark nights.

Managed to rope my friend into doing my LSR with me tonight - only going to do 9 miles then it's tapering week. I hope this wind dies down before next weekend. My hair will look a right mess on the BBC highlights! Wink

DrNortherner · 11/09/2011 11:42

I am SO excited fro GNR coverage on the TV. Fanny can you wear a carnation in your vest so we can recognise you? I have ben checking which celebs are running and my fave, Nell McAndrew is doing it again Bet Nell wears pink socks.........

After my 8 miler yesterday, I just did a 3 mile walk this morning with the dog as my leg felt a bit tight. However, I bought a NeoG support for it and it is amazing I must say.

Dh and ds out a football match this morning so there is peace in my valley. Cleaned the house and now MNetting with a brew and chocolate digestives.

MoshiMoshi · 11/09/2011 11:51

I am hopeless at pacing. My 5K was not sub-20 as hoped for but, according to my Garmin, 20.00. Am so depressed I couldn't work out the sums in my head to get me there in 19.59. I will have to be more calculating (boom boom) about this racing business from now on to reach my targets.

Looking forward to some race reports! Enjoy the sunshine all!

rhetorician · 11/09/2011 12:36

moshi it's a great time though. What you need is a pace calculator that also shows split times, like [[http://www.runningahead.com/tools/calculators this one] it will convert between km and miles - so you can enter 5k as distance, but get your paces in m/m.

rhetorician · 11/09/2011 12:37

sorry, like this one

OP posts:
fannybanjo · 11/09/2011 12:55

•Moshi• was this a race you were doing today? Confused. Apologies if it was - I should have wished you good luck! Sorry you're disappointed with your time but at least it gives you insight into what you need to do to shave off a second...! Wink if it was a race, are the official times out yet?

DrNo I'll construct a cardboard hat with FANNY painted on it so you know it's me. Can you imagine if it rained, I'd have fanny dripping all down my face - now that would be on ok if it was broadcast on ITV however I feel the BBC are too straightlaced for any of that.... Grin Wink

On my own with three dd's today - I made s HUGE mistake of buying socks with animals on from M&S - I have had to split up a scrap between DD2 and DD3 over who was wearing the Panda ones...Hmm. don't get me started on the Tinkerbell boots I was forced to buy from Disneystore for DD2's birthday.... They are Dolly Parton crossed with Liberace and are wrecked all ready. 20 bloody notes too. Angry. I'll have to link to them later do you can all order them for all your daughters so I don't look the only twat who buys her daughter such shite!

orangehead · 11/09/2011 14:05

Of course they don't count fanny Wink. However my Mcdonalds was full fat. Sounds like you having fun today. Great idea of DrNo, you must do something so we can identify you.

orangehead · 11/09/2011 14:10

Sorry you disappointed with your time Moshi, still a great time. Did you enjoy it anyway?
How have the other racers gone today thetasigmamum, N4nny and cestlavie?

stickylittlefingers · 11/09/2011 15:44

Fanny! you're right! This time next week it'll all be over... happily queuing to get out of South Shields I expect (though I may still be gorging myself on tuna sandwiches and crisps - my post race meal of choice :)). Hopefully the weather won't be quite as wuthering as it is at the mo. In 2009 it was really warm, and South Shields looked like the med!

Moshi that's annoying for you. Have you been doing anything special for your 5ks or relying on the runs you do anyway? I was thinking after the GNR I might do one or two 10ks (the Richmond one is lovely, for instance), but try and get the parkrun 5ks faster. It would be super (for me) to be a 25 minuter!

6 miles this morning, very up and down. And my knee hurt where I hurt it last year, bloody thing. Am going to be taking it very easy this week. Apparently (according to teh RW newsletter) carb-loading doesn't mean eating lots of pasta. Am gutted...

Looking forward to the half-marathoners race reports!! Hope it all went well.

DrNortherner · 11/09/2011 15:53

moshi 20 mins for a 5k is damned good in my book. Awful feeling to be dissapointed with your result though. Me thinks you are a perfectionist Wink

Weeing myself at fanny running GNR with a big fanny on her head Grin

The wind is getting up here. Think we may be running in a gale tomorrow guys. Can't wait to hear from he other weekend racers.

Themasterandmargaritas · 11/09/2011 17:48

Oh oh oh I just can't keep up, so sorry.

Orange I hope you are a little destressed after a weekend away from work.

Well done Moshi, 20 mins Shock. Give yourself a break, woman! Wink Alternatively just blame it on the dog.

How did the races go this weekend, all? Not long to go sticky and fanny.

I had to giggle at fanny with her FANNY dripping down her face... Grin

Peachy, can you send over eclairs to here please?

Our event was brilliant and we raised £20,000. Enough to keep our little clinics going for another year. Smile It is a stunning place and on Saturday I ran two laps of the place first thing in the morning and I ran beside a mummy giraffe with four small (though rather tall) babies, through the middle of a herd of zebra and skirted an annoyed looking male waterbuck with large horns who made me run slightly faster than I had to. I was also on the look out for the two rather enormous pythons the owner had warned us about... We are really very lucky. However I do sometimes yearn for Tesco's. Grin

rhetorician · 11/09/2011 17:52

really, Tesco is completely overrated (speaking from a city which is doomed to turn into a giant Tesco...there are 3 within even modest running distance - e.g. a mile radius or so)

OP posts:
Themasterandmargaritas · 11/09/2011 18:38

Three? Shock. That is most definitely overkill. Perhaps I don't miss Tesco and it's small town domination after all.

How about M&S sesame seed prawn cocktail rolls? I'll miss them instead. Grin Oh and real crisps. There are only so many banana chip crisps you can eat in your lifetime.

rhetorician · 11/09/2011 19:37

we could send you a consignment of tayto, Officially the Best Crisps in the World :o (encyclo, badger back me up here...). I think that they should be sponsors to the Ireland 2012 team, lol

OP posts:
rhetorician · 11/09/2011 19:38

sticky I imagine you have a view, too, given your liking for post-race crisps. I love them, and rarely eat them, except when travelling alone, when I drop crumbs over my copy of RW :o

OP posts:
cestlavie · 11/09/2011 20:37

Hi all, only a brief one as am in process of cooking dinner for DW as she's been looking after the kids for weekend whilst I've been away running. Really good race today, finished in 1.47 which is a PB but even more pleasingly race strategy worked really well and I finished knackered but not an absolute wreck like normally. Hope everyone's had a good weekend. Race report to follow.... Wine need a bit more pressing right now!

futurity · 11/09/2011 20:40

Great time Cestlavie! Enjoy your meal..look forward to hearing your race report!

rhetorician · 11/09/2011 20:45

well done cestlavie - I knew you'd do a good time :) I am finding myself looking at marathons for a year's time. Yes, I know what I said.

Finally made it with a race update though it's tinged with sadness because I just heard a man died while running today :(

I woke up really early and was feeling really queasy managed to eat most of my breakfast but not all was just feeling yuck.

I started really well but after mile 3 it was getting hotter and hotter and I was really suffering but I kept going at a slow run for a while then a fast walk. Hardest part was over the cobble stones and the layout of the course ment that one minute it was like you were heading for the finish and then you'd turn a corner and be heading away from the finish. I finished in
3h 03m 44s was hoping for 2.50 but everyone I spoke to finished 10 mins slower then they planned so not to sad about time

DebiTheScot · 11/09/2011 21:47

Well done cest, a great time. Enjoy the wine.

I CAME 35TH OUT OF 650 IN MY RACE!!!!!!! Smile
Sorry for caps but I am feeling very chuffed!
There weren't many hardcore cyclists in it but I'm still feeling pleased with myself. And I beat Victoria Pendleton by nearly an hour Grin
I was hoping for 1hr 30 and did it in 1hr 37. It was very windy and hillier than I expected. The last mile was a hill that I think was 1 degree off vertical and took me 8 mins 30! (I didn't walk it though) Average for the other 23 was about 3.30! The winner took 1hr 16.
It was a good race, well organised and lost of other stuff going on too like massages etc. The goody bag had loads in it including a proper cycling mag, Sportsister mag and Grazia mag. Oh and a packet of crisps Grin
Then we had a day out in the zoo while I hobbled round! (The race started in a zoo)

DebiTheScot · 11/09/2011 21:51

Well done N4NNY, sounds like it was a tough race so you should be pleased. Sad about someone dying while racing though.

backwardpossom · 11/09/2011 21:52

Sounds like Inverness, rhet - I've heard Tesco are currently trying to get planning permission for a 4th store! Hmm

I was out last night and feel dog rough today... Someone stood on my foot with their stiletto heel and it kills! Not impressed! Have got 3 races in the next three weeks, so it better be ok!!

Am feeling happier about the swim part of the tri - I emailed the organisers to say I was worried that my estimate time was really slow (the swimming will be my weakest part) but they've replied that actually it was a fairly average time from all the entries, which I'm pleased about. Strangely excited about it!

moshi how frustrating for you not to break the 20 mins, but wow, still a fantastic time!

PMSL at fanny's fanny!

Great time, cest

Agree about Tayto crisps being amazing. I lived in Germany for a while, and there was an Irish pub in the town that sold them. So I had to eat them regularly - would have been rude not to, really!

fannybanjo · 11/09/2011 21:57

Well done Cest and N4NNY - you both should be proud. How sad about someone dying. Sad

Been out for 9 miler with friend. Started at 9.5m/m - last 3 miles did at HMP however I had bad case of runners tummy and believe me, the turtle was popping it's head.... I have never ran home as fast as I did before. T'was like Benny Hill was chasing me, however I was fully clothed.
