orange sounds awful but pigging out should not worry you atm, I hope the race makes you feel better use the road to release tension, hope things are better soon

rhet I will think of something Grin
it will probably be music

June pink is fine when you have a choice

rhetorician · 09/09/2011 21:58

of course not, Dr No, but at least we will have no problems identifying you!

pink running socks??

OP posts:
DrNortherner · 09/09/2011 21:59

orangehead how come it was all so crappy? Hope it's stuff that can/will be resolved. Crappy days are awful. Hope tomorrow is a better day Smile

orangehead · 09/09/2011 22:19

The atmosphere at work is rubbish, mad busy, everyone bitchy trying not to get involved but everyone insisting on telling me how much they hate the other person. Igo in work happy and coming away depressed. Arranged cover today for a day off in a couple of weeks, then someone exploded at me as they are not talking to the person who I have a arranged to come in to cover me so she now refusing to come in as they cant possibly work with this person who is covering me. Regarding family, my brother very ill not long left to live, mum and dad not speaking to him, my sister also not speaking to mum and dad and I always seem to be piggy in middle.
It just been one of those days where it has just felt a bit too much, I normally an ostrich, then every now and again it all comes out.
Sorry for waffling

orangehead · 09/09/2011 22:27

Dh has just offered me a massage to destress Grin, he's a good one

bonkers20 · 09/09/2011 22:30

I have a pink Ronhill vest and a lilac Ronhill long sleeved top! Love it.

I am not a girly, girl at all. I generally wear dark clothes, jeans etc.

The last race I did I heard one of the marshalls say "ohhh, you're the first pink one we've seen".

squix · 09/09/2011 22:34

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend....looking forward to race reports.

rhet - 4 layers - I am already on 2!

I too have lots of pink gear - don't really wear pink normally. I have a couple of neon long sleeve tops, great for reflecting during dark runs. I also love long sleeve tops with thumb holes in the winter for when it's chilly but not quite cold enough for gloves.

YeahThatsTheBadger · 09/09/2011 22:34

I hate pink although I have a black karrimor top with a pink strip in it. I suppose there's an assumption that if you're female you will want pink stuff.

orange sorry it's so crappy for you right now and hope it's stuff that can get sorted soon.

6k at the gym tonight-still not getting any easier! Got a busy few weeks coming up and heading over to Ireland again on Wednesday so really got to make an effort to keep up the running.

Good luck weekend racers!

rhetorician · 09/09/2011 22:39

it's boiling here at the moment - warmer than it was in the summer...DD insisted on wearing tights (pink) under her trousers today Confused

orange that all sounds utterly shite; I'm sorry

OP posts:
YeahThatsTheBadger · 09/09/2011 22:48

orange it took so long for me to write my post that I x-posted with you. That sounds like a horrible situation. Sad We have a similar situation with my IL's. No one else is willing to take that first step towards sorting it all out and you're left being the mediator and the person carrying all that stress and worry. I really hope it all gets easier for you soon.x

peachsmuggler · 09/09/2011 22:49

Just a quick one, will post properly tomorrow.

Good luck to all our racers this weekend!!

I have a yucky punk running top as when I went to my local running shop it was the only short sleeved one in that style thru had. One colour. Rubbish!!!

Orange, sorry to hear you are having a tough time. Your work colleagues need to flipping grow up. They sound like they're in a schhol playground. And how awful about the family, am so sorry about your brother and about the added stress of people not talking to each other, that sucks. Your DH sounds marvellous however, hope you manage to relax a bit this evening and enjoy yourself tomorrow.

Rhet, so even though you and DP are in a civil partnerships do you mean Irish law does not allow you to adopt the DDs, because you're a same sex couple??

DebiTheScot · 09/09/2011 23:50

Ah crap. Have drunk lots of wine & only just remembered I'm doing parkruna t 9am.

rhetorician · 10/09/2011 09:05

peachsmuggler - yes, got it in one. Irish adoption law is very conservative - e.g. you have to be a married couple if adopting as a couple. Unfortunately for us they wouldn't recognise an adoption from the UK that doesn't fit with Irish law, otherwise we would just move to the UK for a couple of years so that I could adopt them.

It probably wouldn't arise, but it does worry me that they could be taken off me if anything happened to DP - even people you know and trust can start behaving irrationally...

Not sure whether I'm going to run today - I'm having an easy week, running every other day, and I am feeling distinctly creaky in the mornings - it doesn't last long. Planning on long run tomorrow, and then cranking the mileage back up next week

OP posts:
LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 10/09/2011 10:01

Muffin please stay! You sound like 'our sort' Grin

Re: pink running gear. I can remember being quite excited when pink started appearing in running gear about 10yrs ago as before then it was all powder blue (I blame race for life). Now I am sick of black/pink - I actually like bright pink but I am thoroughly fed up of black. My favourite running tights are dark blue. I do quite like the t-shirts in the ayami range though.

I would second the recommendation for aldi running gear but i am planning to size down this year as I found last years size medium a bit loose.

Having said this our running club vests are black and bright pink and I like them as they are a bit different from most clubs.

I think I need to recalibrate by nike+ as it says I did my last easy run in 8.55 min miles - very unlikely.

backwardpossom · 10/09/2011 11:00

Debi how did your parkrun go with the wine assistance? Grin

I finally plucked up the courage and entered the novice triathlon I'd been threatening to do. So it's done now. 2 weeks to go!

DS has been really poorly but seems to be a lot better this morning. Had him at the hospital to see the out of hours doctor last night but she thinks it's 'just' viral. He had a temp of 40 degrees at one point and was just so lifeless. Not like him at all - put it this way, he was only 2 last month and on Thursday, I came home to pick him up from the childminder and he was pedalling a bike himself (with stabilisers, obviously) Shock - yesterday, he was lying on her sofa and couldn't even look at us. :( Wee shame. It's times like that you feel guilty for being a working mum huh?

Not much running planned for the weekend, the weather up here is VILE and is forecast to get much worse... sigh

DebiTheScot · 10/09/2011 11:27

I didn't do my run Blush I got up at 7.30, decided I was goo dehydrated & went back to bed until 10. And all I've done since then is move to the sofa!

orange hope your run goes well today & helps you destress. Your family situation sounds awful and as others have said your colleagues are so childish!

possum your poor ds. It's so worrying when they're like that. And I know what you mean about the guilt. I find teaching a hard job when the kids are ill as you feel guilty about taking time off too.

I get most of my running stuff from sports direct. Karrimore usually as it's so cheap.

LittleChiefRunnyCustard · 10/09/2011 11:55

I have just been looking at sports direct - the prices for Karrimor are great. Thanks for the tip.

peachsmuggler · 10/09/2011 12:20

N4NNY, how exciting about Iceland! Where abouts is the run taking place? I went to Rekyavic about, ooh 12 years ago, just for the New Years weekend and it was brilliant! I'd love to go back in the summer months and drive round the whole island.

ibby am so shocked about the boys with hammers incident! Glad your DS is ok.

fanny, give up the ironing my love. Life's too short, especially with a sore wrist! Grin

sfx good luck on the demo and good on you for getting DD involved!

Yes Wheely cake sadly gone. Well, it had fresh cream in it so it REALLY had to be eaten. Made profiteroles last night too. I am going to be as big a Geoff Capes by the end of this... Smile. Glad to ankle seems to be improving. Is it this week your DD2 starts pre-school?

Welcome Muffin, I haven't done that race, but like the others say, syick around here, you'll get lots of support.

Good luck for Nottingham Cest, we've missed you!

Gosh, you have so much energy June, am in awe!!!

Badger, DD getting on great in her bed thanks, that's been a week now and all pretty smooth. Just need to get a blackout blind now as she keeps waking at 7 (early for her, and me!!!)

Debi, ahh sometimes a lie in is the best answer. I think I would puke on a parkrun with a hangover

Great news on the triathalon possum, glad DS is feeling better, temps are so worrying eh?

DrNo thanks for the headsup about Caballo Blanco, am just going to see if I can book a ticket now! I promise I won't laugh at all your pink running gear Wink How did the 10 miles go?

N4NNY · 10/09/2011 12:52

peachsmuggler Its Reykjavik (not sure on spelling)that we going to I'm still very excited. I need to do loads of research but busy today tidying flat for my cheering squad to arrive and preparing for tomorrow's run. The nerves have started to set in

DrNortherner · 10/09/2011 13:27

Morning All. SIL decided she wanted to do 8, not 10, so we did a nice steady 8 miler in 1 hour and 10 mins. It was VERY hot and sticky, we were dripping from the start! I am starting to feel very Envy that she is running GNR and I am not. Just been looking at the elite lists of male and female runners. How do they run so bloody fast?!

Happy running all.

Rhet that is so crap that you can not adopt your dd's under Irish law. Would you consider moving to UK permanently?

rhetorician · 10/09/2011 13:46

dr No we probably should have done it already - house now in serious negative equity, plus I have a better salary here than we would have there (although heavily taxed and have to pay for everything, childcare, doc's visits etc); also we no longer really have a social circle in the UK, but we do here, plus supportive family etc. And last but not least, I strongly suspect that the dds' dad's family would become a right -pain in the arse-- somewhat intrusive if it was a little easier to reach us...

have scrapped my run for today - DP did 30 minutes in town and now is confined to sofa...the next 12 weeks are going to be very hard, I think...

but going to do my 10 miles tomorrow morning, despite wind and rain forecast

OP posts:
peachsmuggler · 10/09/2011 14:01

Sorry meant say that sucks Rhet as you say, hopefully it will not be an issue, but very crappy that you are not afforded the same rights as married couples Sad

sfxmum · 10/09/2011 14:26

Good luck for the weekend racers

peach thanks it is on Tue 6pm

rhet equality where some are more equal than other is not equality, I fail to see how denying such rights are in the best interest of the child, and that ultimately should be the deciding factor

waiting for dh to come back from his sculling stuff so I can go out, originally we were supposed to go out running together with dd on her bike and early in the morning but dd slept badly and we decided sleep was more important, can't see her going with us now when rain is threatening, but honestly I am happy with alone time, dragging a cranky child to the shops to get her new trainers is not fun

btw the local college has a business school and they are running short courses for start ups with one being precisely in my field of interest yeah I have signed up, hope it is useful

orangehead · 10/09/2011 15:16

Thanks everyone. Its a bit crappy being in the middle Badger, I sympathize.
Rhet that sucks, hopefully things will change soon. They do seem to moving it the right direction if it is very slowly.
Well done possom for entering. Hope ds ok, its horrible when they like that.
Well I got up with a cold this morning Sad, I found the run really hard going but I think that was mainly due to the heat [bring on the winter]. I had a few of 30 secs walk just becase I was so blooming hot and felt a bit sick. When I got to the four mile mark, which normally I seem to pick up some speed then as I just want to finish I just found I couldnt. Dont think the path helped, it was quite bad and small small pot holes. Anyway I managed to do a sprint at the end overtaking a few people Smile and did it in 1 hr 6 mins and all the way without needing the loo Smile Smile. One of the other runners at the end come up to me and asked if I had ever had my breathing checked out as it sounded bad Blush I explained just started with cold and have asthma. She asked if I had take my inhaler before. Which of course I stupidly didnt. However I think my breaing always sound like that when I run. Hence why I like running with music to drown out my breathing.
Good luck to all other racers the weekend.

orangehead · 10/09/2011 15:34

Forgot to say at the end you get a free sandwich ad beer/drink at the pub Grin
