{shudder} @ a 20 minute run. And only 2 weeks away..... Confused

BearGryllsBra · 15/05/2011 09:23

Grin Rather

Sounds lovely sluttybra - have a great time!

Tuggy and KateM - it's not as bad as it sounds - honestly. I was dreading it as well, but the others on here who had already done it said it was quite fun (I know, I didn't beleive them either), and it gave you a chance to get into your stride. Now I prefer it to all the faffing about stopping and starting unless I'm in danger of collapse of course.

Happy running everyone!

NimpyWindowmash · 15/05/2011 09:48

I haven't looked forward in the schedule to see what's in store, but I'm getting scared now. 20 minute run? In 2 weeks? Yikes.
Looking forward to w3r1 in regents park later today.

mollycuddles · 15/05/2011 10:02

All the pre week5 panickers - you will be grand. And don't worry about speed - I'm just doing x 30min runs in the week and x1 45 minute run at the weekend. I graduated about 6 weeks ago and I am just building on my stamina and slowly getting quicker but I still can't do 5k in 30 minutes. I don't care for now actually. I'm getting better and slimmer so what's not to enjoy? (apart from hills, wind, stitches, occasionally thinking I'm going to vomit while running etc etc) :)

COCKadoodledooo · 15/05/2011 17:12

Now the MoonWalk is over I'm thinking of joining you lot on here to give me something to do Grin

Also think I might move to London - it's so FLAT!

Wonder if I saw you this morning Slutty?

JelliBelli · 15/05/2011 17:36

Hi All,

Good to hear about everyones successes, although plantar fasciatus (sp) would not be good [crossed fingers emoticon] so am hoping that isn't what you have.

What programme is everyone following? I am slightly confused as I don't ever have a 20 min run on my Bupa programme ? I have 2x 15 min runs but not a 20 minuter Shock.

It is also interesting to hear where everyone runs and the idea of running in central London seems alien to me Smile. I live in a small, hilly village where two rivers meet and I have a choice of directions in which to run on paths and tracks along the river, around fields or up in the hills (in the future hopefully Shock). The only thing is I tend to know the people who see me running so I try to time it so I am actually running in the village and not walking Blush.

So, I had my W3R3 run today and it was a hard run for me because I had decided it was going to be hard before I even started as I have a throat infection and felt very flakey this morning. Actually it wasn't too bad, although I was deliberately slow after starting too fast on Thursday. Anyway it's done now and on Tuesday I move to 3x 5 minute runs which is very slightly scarey.

SirCharlieStinkySocks · 15/05/2011 17:42

Molly That's quite reassuring to hear from a recent graduate, I'm starting to worry about if I can do 5k in 30 mins especially as I've signed up for local Race for Life in July.

Slutty I'm actually in London next weekend for work and taking running gear but will probably just use hotel gym as I'm nowhere near well enough acquainted with London to actually run around there outside, probably get hideously lost. Running in London sounds fun.

Jelli I'm using the Exertime app on my phone but haven't checked anything beyond week 5 as yet as I'm far too scared!!

Hi to everyone else!

Well, w2r1 today and not too bad, managed to finish it but a slight incline at one point nearly floored me. Also used the MyTracks app on my phone to see how far I've actually been going and turns out that from start to finish including the 5 min walks I covered 3.16k but I have no idea if that's good or not????

Onward and upwards ladies!

NimpyWindowmash · 15/05/2011 20:26

Did W3R1. Absolutely crap run, issues with my iphone app which didn't play the music, so had to stop during warm up. Then had to stop to do up laces. But I did the run and managed the 2 x 3 minutes, so that's all that matters Smile Wine

sluttysbrawearer · 15/05/2011 21:54

COCKadoodle, I saw lots of moonwalkers around Marble Arch this morning. Maybe you were one of them? I was in civilian attire by then Grin.

Nimpy - are you a Central London person?

Sir Charlie - get yourself an AtoZ Grin

Jelli - I'd never have run in Central London before living in New York, where every second person seems to be running. I love the sound of running in the countryside.

CalamityKate · 15/05/2011 22:18

I ran for 35 minutes tonight! Tra la la la la!! Happy Dance

Awww sal. Sorry you're feeling meh about running, I am sure your mojo will return though - anyway you can't stop, because we are roughly at the same stage and I won't let you Grin. If it's any consolation, I'm still out of action with my foot. Am currently sitting here with feet in a bucket of warm water, very glam. My foot is still very ouchy. Thanks jelil, I'm hoping it's not that either. Tried my running shoes on yesterday and it was agony as they forced my foot into the correct position - at the moment I'm wearing comfy FitFlops. Well not at the actual moment as feet are in a bucket!

Well done Calamity! 35 mins is BRILLIANT!

Got to get ready for work, so will check in later and see how you're all getting on.

Blackduck · 16/05/2011 08:41

I tried starting own thread but got no reply so gate crashing this one....I started C25K and have a very sore hip - has anyone expereinced this and how did you get past it? If I run on it I am pretty much crippled for the rest of the day and it hurts for at least a week. I have googled and think it could be weak muscles that need strengthening - any ideas anyone? Want to get back out, but don't want to do any serious damage.

sluttysbrawearer · 16/05/2011 21:03

Welcome Blackduck! I've had lots of sore bits, but not to the extend you describe. A friend of mine had a bad hip and ended up having to stop running, so don't overdo it!

Bear - you poor thing. Have you been to see the dr yet?

Well done Calamity!

Sal, keep going, don't give up now!

I was desperate for fresh air when I got out of my conference this evening, so I eschewed the pub Shock and went for a run over Waterloo Bridge, along the river to Lambeth Bridge and back over and past the Houses of Parliament. it looked a popular circuit, I saw a few runners and met some of them twice (doing the same circuit in the opposite direction to me).

KateMiddletonsEyebrows · 16/05/2011 21:06

Did W3R2 this morning - didn't enjoy it tbh - but I felt great when it was over. I think I'm getting nervous about the reality of longer runs. But a number of people have mentioned that I'm 'looking well' - I don't weigh myself and don't think I've lost weight, but I suspect I have a good colour and a spring in my step from all the endorphins.

Well done Calamity!

BearGryllsBra · 16/05/2011 21:43

Thanks sluttybra, not put appointment on yet, hate going to docs, bleugh. Sounds like you're having fun in London, you're very intrepid! Don't know if I'd be that brave - mind you I know the streets in NY better than the ones in London.

Hello Blackduck and welcome, hope you're feeling a bit better - not had any hip probs yet, but hopefully someone who knows something will be along soon.

Honestly Eyebrows, the longer runs are really quite nice once your body gets over the shock of the first ten mins or so. The thought really is worse than the doing. Honest guv. Btw you're looking well Wink.

rowrowrowyourboat · 16/05/2011 22:27

W3R1 Wow I can run for three minutes, it wasn't as hard as I thought, I was really dreading it but it felt better than I dared hope, thought it would be deadly. I'm thinking (foolishly no doubt) that 20 mins in two weeks may well be possible, watch me crash and burn on Weds Grin

sluttysbrawearer · 16/05/2011 22:33

Grin to rowrow! You'll be doing 20 mins in no time!

Bear - are you an ex-New Yorker? I did wonder after your comment about dreaming about running along 57th, but forgot to ask! This little patch of London is my manor [sluttysbra tries to sound dead 'ard]...well I kinda know my way around-ish.

CalamityKate · 16/05/2011 23:46

Aren't we all fab?! Grin

Eyebrows - like BGB said, the longer runs aren't as bad as you fear, honest.

The first 10 minutes are the worst, until everything warms up, but really, the beauty of C25K is that most of the time (although it's perfectly permissible to repeat days/weeks if you feel you need to) you ARE ready for the next step! Even if it takes your body 10 minutes to realise it Grin

melodyangel · 16/05/2011 23:48

Hi everyone sounds like your all doing really well.

So we did the5k run on Sunday and I would like to add the midday sun to the list of awful things to run in!

So where to go from here? What are all you graduates doing now? Still doing the 5k but trying to improve your time or going for the 10k?

Won't be able to run much over the next couple of weeks as in to the final stages of wedding plans. Plus need to rebuild our shed at the allotment as some one saw fit to tear it down and steal half of the bits.

Rowrowrow - well done. Glad to hear your enjoying it. by the time you have to do the 20 min run you'll be ready.

SuperSalStrawberry - how did your run go today?

sluttysbrawearer · 17/05/2011 08:52

melody well done for doing your run!

I've been trying a mixture of building up speed and distance - so a couple of short (5k or less) runs on weekday evenings, and a longer (up to 10k) stagger at the weekend. I miss running if I have a few days off.

I am thinking of going back to a structured programme (bridge to 10k or something like that) to keep me going regularly. But I have too many things to juggle over the next few months to commit Smile

Well done everyone for all the great running. I wonder how many miles we cover between us?!

I did W3R2 last night, and like you KateMid, I didn't enjoy it much but felt good after. According to SportyPal the total run was slower that my week 2 runs, which was a bit disappointing. I also have a slightly hurty ankle.

HOwever, I'm genuinely surprised at how much better the exercise is making me feel, even the next day. I do have a spring in my step and a few people have remarked on how well I'm looking :)
